I dont know how much you can rely on such tests, but after a few tries I found out that being on the edge... ready to react, I got much better results... Ofcourse the muscles must be relaxed, if you tense your muscles, you wont react fast, so I get what you mean. When & Why To Fight or Surrender?
Coudo replied to bigpopparob2000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes, ofcourse, but what if he is trained to, or he might just be good, good enough to keep his distance, and if you try to move in on him then all it takes is for him to pull the trigger... Of course, if youre trained in krav maga, or something like that, then you might have the skills to safely disarm him... I can understand every opinion on this point and I can honestly say that I dont know what I'd do, but I'd probably attack him (with intention to disarm him), cause I think I at that point would turn even dumber than I already am... -
Judo for self defense

Well I wouldnt do that if I was only concerned about my own safety... but if someone elses safety was on the line... then maybe! Otherwise I would probably run. The point is, i still know how I twist the arm so that he would drop the knife and fall to the ground. -
When & Why To Fight or Surrender?

I'll have to go with delta1 on this one I know people like that, I go to school with some of them... I would certainly die if I could save my friends, instead of feeling guilty for a friend getting raped. But there truely are women that I would without doubt leave, the funny thing about it is that almost noone would blame me for it. Some of the people I go to school with.... hell... when I think about it, I'd probably pull the trigger myself well no... but almost! -
shadow-boxing
Coudo replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
what you benefit is simply speed and footwork, ofcourse you also learn the technique a little bit better. -
correct, but punching has also got the (IMO the best thing about punches) ability to move while striking, and good footwork can easily flip any range advantage
-
yes ofcourse, but it isnt about that, this isnt about a guy who trains kicks against a guy who trains punches.... this is about punches against kicks, which is superior?!
-
yes ofcourse, but im thinking that if they both have trained balance as much, then the one who punches has still got one leg more on the ground to support himself with, and thus has better balance. The main thing here is that the puncher has got much more possibilities, or potential if I may say so in having two legs on the ground. Plus the thing about that the one who's punching can move while he strikes, and the one who's kicking cant. Which would argue my oppinion on which is better, I'd say hands!
-
I'll have to argue that someone that knows how to punch has got a better balance than someone who knows how to kick, simply because the one who punches can move as he punches, while the one who kicks cant... Balance is everything, if you loose it, and have against you a fighter that knows what he is doing, you WILL loose!

Coudo replied to Coudo's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Great CrouchingTiger but I meant a little bit more of the practical info and a little less of history... Like if the art specialises in taking down several opponnents or if it uses weapons and what kind, and also if it uses mostly kicks or punches. That sort of thing... so that everybody could get to know every art a little bit, since there really are so many different martial arts on this forum. I havent even heard about half of them and it would be better to have them here in conclusion instead of writing down all of them separately on google and reading there .. -

Yeah that would be cool, but you dont have an e-mail anywhere, heres mine: "Coudo300@hotmail.com" You could e-mail me there with the info or you could simply post it here (thats my intention with the thread ) -
Is there any descriptions of all the martial arts anywhere, like what the purpose of the martial art is and what kind of techniques that are used in it... If not, then it would be cool if everybody could give an description of the martial art that they practise!?

Boxing vs Judo
Coudo replied to MMouse's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I've had experience in both... ofcourse I would say that judo can be more fun, learning moves and all that, but a real street fight (with someone who knows how to fight) isnt just about grappling (wrestling, judo style), its more about punching and evadeing punches. I've already chosen boxing, and just for the record, it takes about 2 months to learn the basics of boxing and then it takes about 1 year to learn how to box! Judo ofcourse is great and even though I think a boxer would win in a fight between them, this isnt about that. Boxers (despite what some seems to think) never ever lets anyone in close if they dont know if they will be hurt by that person. Chose boxing, if youre afraid of having to street fight then its the style for you. -
Worst enemy...
Coudo replied to Topic's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Ofcourse, this is difficult if you want to jump, or kick but when it comes to boxing its different. I guess this is why boxing is such a good MA for training street fight. In boxing you train exactly for having good balance while avoiding and protecting yourself from a charge, when a beginner charges, no matter how strong he is, he will go right past me (like a bull runs past a bullfighter), while I still have a perfect balance. Or I could choose to just take one step back while he flails and looses his balance, then hit him... I especially wouldnt fear a person who flails in the air while comming at me, cause thats just ridiculous. Remember everybody, why do we train martial arts if an unexperienced fighter inserts fear into us... then we have already lost the "Mental game" like Fenris-wolf said... and then the fight is already half lost. And to all of you out there who truely are afraid of UE fighters, think again... We are trained fighters they are not, its that easy. The reason for that they flail is because they dont know what they are doing, since we know what they are doing wrong, we know how to easily stop them! -
Worst enemy...
Coudo replied to Topic's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
My worst enemy... well I actually dont have a worst enemy, but ofcourse I'll chose to fight a unexperienced or untrained fighter anyday. I have sparred against unexperienced guys and they are litterrally nothing in a fistfight, their speed is lousy, their footwork doesnt work at all. Due to their lack in footwork they cant really genrate any power into their punches. This is ofcourse from a boxers point of view; if you go against an unexperienced fighter then try to avoid difficult kicks (by that I mean kicks that get you off your balance). Balance is wery important in a fight as we all know, and especially important against an UE fighter, since they dont have the balance. The balance allows us to circle the opponnent, and if they are unable to circle while we are able to, then the fight is already won. If I take my own experience with sparring UE guys: A tall guy came at me; 200cm long (Im pretty short; 167cm), he started throwing jabs and hooks against me and he didnt get any power in his punches at all, I was free to move against him while defending without having to worry about any punches stopping me, I could circle the guy while throwing in a few easy light punches every now and again, he wasnt able to touch me at all (other than my defence). Also, my trainer, who was standing close by the whole time, told me to only use my left hand against the others(UE guys). There is no greater enemy, than the one more experienced than you! finally I want to say, as I often do; Noone that is unexperienced can beat a trained martial artist in a fight, also noone can beat a boxer in a fistfight! -
Boxing
Coudo replied to King of Fighters's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I totally agree with that Guy Who Fights, and your absolutley right when you point out that boxing isnt better than kung fu or other similar ma's. The thing you said at the end: Is what I have been saying all along (but in another form ofcourse), (view my first post). So, since a boxer sparrs so much, and the main point of the sport is to punch and evade punches, then in many cases a good boxer will beat a good kung-fu'ist. Since a boxer who has trained about a month with a good boxer will probably have been in every possible scenario of a fist fight, and if he gets good at evadeing and countering in every scenario, then he only has to keep improveing them to perfection. But ofcourse, a kung-fu'ist that knows all the kung-fu techniques and can use them with a good success rate, will have a desent chance of beating a boxer with the same amount of experience (when I'm talking about kung-fu I mean pretty much all similar MA's) My final opinion is that noone beats a good martial artist, no matter how street-rough the opponnent is!! And a good boxer will never loose a fist-fight! I also want to add that most fights out on the street are fist fights, so the best way to defend yourself on the street is to improve on that point... That makes boxing the greatest street self-defence MA! -
Judo for self defense
Coudo replied to broomhilda000's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
judo is great for self defence, you can choose to only throw your opponnent so that he gets shocked for a while and you earn a little bit of his respect, in most cases that would mean the end for a fight. The added bonus that comes with this is that you wouldt physically damage your opponnet in a way that he would sue. If I were to defend myself in a streetfight there would be a pretty big risk for me getting sued since I practise boxing. I know how damageing a punch is and I would avoid getting hit at every cost, and then I would punch back with such strength so that I know he wont get up and attack me again. There is no way for me to defend myself without hurting the guy. Judo has a great advantage there. But ofcourse this is in case of a brawl in a bar or similar, in a real lifethreatning situation I would be really glad that I chose boxing. I have taken a self-defence course that had very much judo in it (partially because the trainer was a judo silver medalist in the world championships). And I, plus a few of my friends, took everything there very seriously and we reallly learned alot. That course combined with boxing is really the best combination you could have. the fact that I only had this course for 1 month and it was 2 years ago, plus that I have been boxing now for a year results in that i have almost forgot all the judo that i've learned. The things I havent forgot is for example how you should bend the hand so that it hurts like hell, and stuff that i can still use if somebody attcks me with a knife for example. -
I would place boxing and kickboxing pretty high on that list, I wouldnt really consider any other arts as FIGHTING arts. I guess if you could consider k1 an art, then it would probably be the ultimate fighting art, since its got alot combined. I think boxing is the best street fighting art, one on one atleast. But you would have to specify what kind of fighting art your looking for, since boxing is good one on one while another is especially for taking down several opponnents. Now, what a good fighting art should have is simply alot of sparring, nothing is better for a fight then practise.

what would you do in this situation...
Coudo replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hook to the ear, or an uppercut. Remember he's totally unprotected and he's in colse rang (atleast what I understood). I dont know if he's stupid or if he really can take a beating, eather way he can't take an uppercut form that range, noone can! -
Yup, about as different as it can get ! Yes, that wasnt really what i implicated with What I meant was that if youre mad at someone, and push him offensively away from you (like if you wanted to start a fight) then you could'nt be sued, if you have'nt hurt him in any physical way (atleast not in finland) I guess it is a similar situation, if a guy backs you up against a wall and you stun him with an elbow against his face/neck and then go away, this situation ofcourse has got the difference that your not initiating a fight, youre diffusing a possible fight. I'll do that
-
Ok I'm sorry about saying that you when the attacker come at you you are unable to escape Jerry, but thats how I understood cymrys scenario, I wasnt really paying attention when i read your post though and thats why I'm apologising. I want to add too this conversation that I have been in a similar situation but the only difference was there that the guy backing me up to a wall was much much weaker then me (he still is) even though he is two years older and about 6 inches taller. He wouldnt have a chance against me in a fight. What i did in that situation was that i stodd still while he punched me twice and then started screaming, then when a few guys came to take him out of there he started crying (literrally) about that we were more then 10 guys aginst him, we were 5 guys and they werent even there, plus the 2 older guys who only were there to throw him out of there, besides he had 3-4 friends on his side, and then they took him away. Btw he started the fight because i told him to stop making fun of me a year before that, he has bullied me since 3:rd grade and was still doing so even though i was 16. The easiest solution to this would have been to beat him, but im really not the person who fights (unless one of my friends get beaten, then hell breakes loose. The reason to why I even was alone when he confronted me was because my friends were holding down his friends in the other side of the house. im in the southern finland, near turku. If you dont do any damage with your energy hits, then feel free to come over. ps. there are martial arts that espesially concentrates on finding energy spots that are easy accessible and that only stun the attacker, this is for one purpose only, to be able to get away unhurt from an attacker without getting sued. These are places in the body where the energy flows in the body, for example under the ear there is one spot. Anyone who knows more about this? If so, could you share your knowledge please. I would like to know more about it!

ok... this subject is getting pretty old but still... the scenario wasnt you advancing into the other persons fighting space, it was him advancing into yours because you couldnt move backwards anymore (because of a wall or something similar). yes... but if the other person advances as you say, into your fighting space while saying something offensive, after you have said "i dont want to fight". Then you have the right to diffuse the situation. yes thats exactly the situation... if that wasnt the case the law could be abused (like in US)... Then you could'nt go around pushing anyone without getting sued, again I say "like in the US".
-
I'm somewhat confused, didnt cymry kinda mean that he already told the attacker( I know hes not technically an attacker but ill call him that anyway) that he should stay back, atleast i count "verbally diffuse the situation" to telling him to back off. If you state as your defence that you felt threatend, it will probably be changed to a similar but more resonable defence by a lawyer when dealing with the court. My state does believe in witnesses, thats the point. The witnesses cant testify against me(for instance) for punching the guy, while leaving out that I tried to diffuse the situation verbally (unlike in the US), and if the attacker wasnt hurt in any "remarcable" way, you cant possibly be accused of anything. Thus my earlier remarc about the american justice system.
