  1. Kuk Sool Won (Korean)
  2. I've been practicing Kuk Sool Won for 8 or 9 years. I stopped counting.
  3. We are heavy into pressure points. Almost every technique we have has some sort of pressure point attack involved. Not JJ, so sorry if I'm intruding in this area.
  4. I like some sparring at tourneyments, but not all. I don't like the Karate Kid style of point-stop, point-stop, and so on. I like the ones where you keep going for 2 or 3 minutes and take-downs are allowed for points. If I'm not allowed to do take-downs, I'm out of my element. Other than that, I try and enter every single event. Weapons, forms, breaking, self defense, whatever. If I'm going to compete, I want to try everything.
  5. Yea Xbox is supposed to be better in a lot of aspects than the cube, but it does have its drawbacks too. Its huge. As big as a VCR. While not necessarily a deciding factor, it is something to keep in mind. Also, its what..$500. I know that includes games, but geez. Yeh the cube isn't much better, but like I said we're going to PS2. Lastly, even though Microsoft IS the software giant, they're fortee is business software. They haven't proven themselves in the gameing front yet. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, and I'm not telling anyone not to buy it. I'm just saying think all your choices through first. Look how good Dreamcast is doing.
  6. Yup, The previews were definately better than the final product. If you like the heavy philosophy, it's great, but I like my Philosophy in smaller doses.
  7. Same here Patrick. No critisism was meant by pointing out the problem. It was just FYI. Everything else works great, and you do an awsome job with this site.
  8. We basically have to find our own anchor point. I feel mine to the right side of my chest, with my forearm and bicept being in line. To draw, we raise the bow above our head, lock the bow arm, and draw the string back as we lower the bow on target.
  9. This year wil be our first divergance from Nintendo. THe kids already have Super (from way back) and N64. Some of the internet reviews said the Cube didn't have as good a graphics display as N64. But N64 turned out to be too hard to write games for. One of my suppliers had a special going on, so I got a PS2 for free. Can't beat that deal, and it seems to still be getting pleanty of new game for it.
  10. Isn't Return of the Dragon when he was Italy? Pitted against Chuck Norris? I know they changed the titles when they came to the US, so I don't know what they're named elsewhere.
  11. That's the European draw. Korean draw is with the thumb, and across the chest. We're not supposed to aim with our eyes, just feel through repetetive practice where to hold the bow in relation to the target. Yeh, my arm has turned some interesting colors when I didn't keep my elbow rotated out. Only takes once for me to remember. We are also trained to draw our breath with our string, and hold until string release.
  12. Yes, martial arts IS the show. Can't tell the plot from the previews, but it looks like the typical good vs. evil type of Mortal Combat kind of thing. I think Billy Zane stars, along with a few others, as the key "good" guys. Executive producers are Jet Li and Mel Gibson. Looks like some special effects, but mostly actual (enhanced) fight sequences.
  13. This Sunday night at 8 est.
  14. Yea, you tell it Lori...... what your tellin' I haven't a clue.
  15. Honestly, I didn't need what few colors we had. Although they have expanded since KSW started from just student, instructor, and master. For the kids, though, I don't have a problem with it. As anyone knows that has kids (and I mean small kids not teenagers), there are few that are long term benefit oriented. As they accomplish a new belt level, it helps keep them motivated. Helps to keep them interested. In the long term, they reap the same benefits, but attain it through smaller steps. Adults, on the other hand, shouldn't need the same type of "pampering" that the children require.
  16. Hey Patirck, Are you able to add a list in your "On Line Users" section to show who is in the chat room?
  17. That's good. You shouldn't have the problems I have heard others having, in that case.
  18. Oh well, they don't for me. Everything else seems to work real good, though. It just opens another window, with that error at the top, and the default KarateForums header under that. I don't get anywhere close to the pages the link is pointing to. Hope I'm the only one. Ltr
  19. Here in the states, we would have to ask the guy to wait a minute while we pulled out our pocket law book, and check which state we were in at the time, cross reference that with the standing laws for self defense, then check to see the history of treatment of those with martial training pitted against those that don't......... :kaioken: Ah hell just kick the Sh** out of the bum!!!!
  20. The basic one we're taught for that is to attack a pressure point with each hand, drop low and execute a shoulder throw. Once they're on the ground in front of you, pin with a knee to the neck.
  21. Patrick, I keep getting an error when clicking on the links under the martial arts section. Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/ifroggy/public_html/karateforums/links/index.php:3) in /home/ifroggy/public_html/karateforums/links/index.php on line 10 Is it me, or the links? I got into the chart area with no problem. Won't get to participate though. Friday nights are when I go to New York (state) for in class training. Hope it goes well. 22. I was looking to get Age of Empires too. I'm torn between getting it for my PC, or waiting for Santa to bring PS2 for the kids and getting it on that. Any advice from the pros?
  23. Has anyone heard anything (good or bad) about the new show coming to TNT (or TBS) called Invicible? The fight clips on the previews look pretty good.
  24. Hey Angus, I knew where it was from, so that's two of us. I still prefer Metallica, though. I would do my best to only break or disslocate something. I certainly wouldn't pick up a dropped knife a attack, but I do know a number of techniques where I redirect his own hand back into himself while still holding the knife.
  25. Can you be more specific as to the type of headlock and location of the attacker? We are taught many different escapes, based on the possition of the attacker and which type of hold he's using.
