  1. I think Bruce Lee would have done good if he was in the UFC. Bruce Lee was taught some Judo by Gene Le Belle, which was a great Judoka at his time, so IMO, i think Bruce Lee would have done well if he was in the UFC.
  2. I highly recommend you take Judo. Judo has throws, locks, and ground work which can be used effectivly on the street. Some Judo schools will teach you how to handle certain situations when a weapon is pulled on you. Judo's strongest aspect is the throws, which can often end a fight on the street.
  3. Where is Maeda originally from? is he Japanese or Brazalian?
  4. I agree with WolverineGuy, BJJ doesn't have more groundwork than Judo, it's just that judo focuses more on the throws while BJJ focuses TOO MUCH on the ground. In my opinion, Judo is a more well rounded Grappling art than BJJ. And BJJ doesn't have more ground thechniques than Judo, They basically have the same amount of ground technique.
  5. Ok, why doesn't anyone get that "SPORT JUDO", often works on the street/real fights. Most people say most JUdo schools only teach "Sport JUDO" but noone gets that "sport JUDO" isn't very different from Kodokan Judo. The only difference is that "sport judo" doesn't have some of the more dangerous moves and atemi waza(striking). But IMO, SPORT JUDO is also fine for self-defence, and by the way, if u do fight someone on the street they will most likely be wearing cloth, so you could grab on to their cloth like a gi, and plus most Judo throws can be done without the GI, The gi is just used to make things either for u. BTW Sammyrai, I would defenitly go with Judo if u can.
  6. Does Judo use samurai tradition? because i've heard a lot of ppl say that Judo uses Samurai Traditions. I don't quite know what they mean when they say Judo uses Samurai Traditions, can someone explain please? Thank U
  7. having big muscles does not make u slower if u also work on your speed as gaining those big muscles. If u just wanna get fit or cut, i recommend u do push-ups and situps daily. You could also do high reps of light weights.
  8. my definiton of a martial artist is "warrior".
  9. I dislike the Gracies very much! They are good martial artists, but they're over rated, and they are considered legendary by many people. Also, most of the practioners of BJJ think that BJJ is the best art, and they disrespect other arts.
  10. Join Tai Chi Chuan if you can but it is kind of hard to join a martial art that does not use that hands that much, most or maybe all martial arts requires the use of the hands.
  11. What is Bushido? Is it an art or is it a code of honour or a way? Thank u!
  12. Bruce Lee (Jeet Kune Do/Wing Chun) Hiroyuki Sanada (Karate) Jackie Chan (Kung Fu) Jet Li (Wu shu) Steven Segal (Aikido) Jean-Claude Vandamme (Kick Boxing) Sonny Chiba (Karate) Bolo Yeung (Shotokan Karate)
  13. I see the movie twice and i have to say it's the BEST!!! movie i've ever seen. The acting was great, but I really liked Hiroyuki Sanada in this movie, he acted like a true fearsome samurai/warrior. but over all the best movie i've ever seen, i can't wait untill it gets released on dvd or vhs so i could buy it! Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, and Hiroyuki Sanada just made the movie great!
  14. This is not nast for me atleast, but i've eaten Pigeon,Rabbit, and Deer. I ate other stuff but i can't remember at the moment.
  15. 1-Judo 2-Japanese Jiu-Jitsu 3-Aikido 4-Jeet Kune Do 5-Wing Chun 6-Karate 7-Taekwondo 8-Muay Thai
  16. My Opinion is grappling arts work better for the streets. I recommend Judo, Aikido, or Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. It would be better if u do a striking art and a grappling art. If u can, I would go for Karate and Judo.
  17. Sorry if I'm wrong about ATEMi being a form, But i was just saying that Judo does have striking in it.
  18. I know Jiu-Jitsu was the art of the samurai but does anybody know what Jiu-Jitsu style was originally used by the samuraies? or did a samurai just choose A Jiu-Jitsu style/s, he was comfortable with?
  19. I would pick Judo because of the effective throws, locks, and ground work. There is striking in Judo by the way, the form is called ATEMI. Atemi has punches and kicks. But not all schools teach ATEMI, but it is an original form in Judo. Certainly they will not teach you how to throw in boxing, so I would go for Judo.
  20. I talked to one of the sensai's of one of the jiu-jitsu schools and he said he teaches KODOKAN JIU-JITSU, which i never heard off, adn he said it's simillar to The Jiu-jitsu in Hawaii. What do u guys think? its $65 dollars a month, so far I'm not interested in that school because first of all i don't think Hawaii has a Jiu-Jitsu style and I don't think there is such thing as Kodokan Jiu-Jitsu. So far i'm more intersted in Judo, and most of the Judo schools near me have a good reputation.
  21. There is a lot of Judo schools and Jiu-Jitsu schools near me. I'm not sure what the Jiu-Jitsu styles are though. I'm just asking for your opinion, I'm not telling you to choose the art for me.
  22. Hey guys, I know i've been posting a lot about choosing a martial art, but now i'm serious!, The choice for me is between Judo and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu(aka.Traditional). Which art is more effective for self-defence? I know Judo won over TJJ when they had the big tournament between both arts. Do one or both of the arts have weapon training(I don't care that much for weapons). Please don't go off topic and mention other Ma, i only want ur help on choosing an art between judo and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, and most importantly i want to know which is more effective for self-defence. Thank You!
  23. I sparred with one of my friends before who is a chen style Tai Chi Practioner. I know a little Wing Chun, so i was using what i know, i'm a grappler so i used a lot of throws and locks. Whenever I did any move he wouldn't resist but he would let use all my force and get out easily. I asked how and why were u not resisiting, and he told me that's what tai chi is about, it's about using your opponents force/energy. I just thought i should share that. Thank u!
