  1. I'm in 1 - 5. I haven't been in a real fight in 12 years, unless you count with my wife!
  2. Size and strength are VERY important, unless you are incredibly skilled. Take my 5 ft 2 160 lb Kung Fu teacher for example. He can kick my 6 ft 1 200 lb 13 years of Karate training * all over the place whenever and however he chooses. Don't say that I must suck, or something then; how do you explain all of the pictures of frail old men throwing trained practitioners around like dolls? Do you think they can bench 300 lbs?
  3. My Kung Fu teacher told me this when he looked at my arms, "AHHH-- big muscle! No need!" For us, it's all about redirecting your oponent's strength against him. Seemingly, the stronger he is, the stronger you are. HEY, CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Domo arigato goziamusu! Watashi wa Nihongo ga schoshe wacharimasu shoste schoshe hannashemasu, demo mada jozu ja arimasen. I have been studying the Japanese language, but had never heard of that term before. Thanks for the translation! Jaa matta!
  5. Just a guess--- Maybe it means breathe?
  6. No, it was not a cartoon. It was like a sitcom for kids on Sunday morning with real people as characters. Maybe mid 1970's.
  7. I saw that in Rocky 4. The Russian averaged over 1500 pounds! (or something like that) Didn't Century used to make that?
  8. I would also like to add, that in a combat situation; conditioning doesn't mean as much, because of the adrenaline factor. Your skills in defense are much more important. It's like the guy who fought for his life, and got stabbed during the scuffle only to find out that he didn't know it until afterwards. If you hurt yourself protecting yourself, it's still better than not escaping the troubled situation.
  9. Of coarse I was enragred. The kid's been harassing me for 3 years and I have never had enough courage to stand up for myself. I've always been telling the teachers on him, and they dont do ANYTHING but give him a 2 minute lecture. I knew I wasnt gonna take any more of his B/S so I showed him how angry I was. I take Jeet Kune Do from Octavio Quintero, who is certified by Jerry Poteet. He's an awesome teacher and is very intelligent in JKD. Well, sometimes people get what they deserve! Cool on the JKD. I wish I had an opportunity like that. All I know of JKD is from reading.....
  10. I get the feeling that many of you must be much younger than I. I work with my hands, and adding pain on the job is no good at all. Yes, through the years, I have been conditioned to some pain; but going overboard and thinking that the pain is a good thing is ridiculous and unwise. Take my own experience as an example. I was working out and working out, over and over, harder and harder. I developed pain in my right elbow. I shook it off, as you guys say to do, and kept on working on it hard. WELL, after a couple of weeks, I couldn't even move my arm anymore the pain was so bad. I went to the doctor, and found out I gave myself lateral epicondylitis. This condition was caused by repetitive use of the arm in a damaging way, and NEVER FULLY HEALS. Of course I could have surgery, but I still wouldn't be able to train like I used to. So you see, I'm done with all that "push yourself beyond" and "pain is good" crap. As wisely perviously stated, when you get older, it is not so glamorous. Besides, as I said earlier; in Isshinryu, we block muscle to muscle. Much smarter and safer.
  11. Down, boy! Down! All things start at the beginning!
  12. I have Master Advincula's tapes. Although you can't really learn the katas by watching, he has amazing ability, style, and power. There are a few free downloadable clips on his site https://www.isshin1.com The man is amazing.
  13. I used to go to this dojo where when you sparred with the Sensei, he would laugh out loud at you. I asked him once why he was laughing, and he said because he was having so much fun. It was unnerving.
  14. Dahahah, that would have kicked butt! BLH28 1, bad guys nothin'! Have YOU ever been in front of a judge on violence charges? Something tells me you have. Do tell......
  15. Maybe I'll switch to scotch. My father in law drinks that stuff like a fish, and he's healthy. He swears that I'll be better off changing. HHUUMMMM......
  16. I agree 100% with this. You are facing harrassment, so cover your butt if you need to defend yourself by letting the cops know.
  17. Yeah, I got my shodan in Isshinryu, and started back at white in Shorinryu. People had no idea what to expect. Don't go by belt color!
  18. I kept mine in a filing cabinet. Kept them pressed and new-like. Then one day, I moved. I emptied the filing cabinet into boxes to make it lighter. My wife and I decided that the basement was to be MINE, so all of my stuff went down there. Our first night there, we had a terrible rain storm; and the previous owners of the house neglected to tell us how badly the basement leaked. 6 inches of water destroyed all of my notes, pictures, and certificates. Everything was completely ruined, and I cried when I had to throw it away.
  19. This is why we, in Isshinryu, block using muscle to muscle; not bone to bone. Why try to condition your bones, when you can much easier condition your muscles? https://www.isshin1.com
  20. Well, Champ, any new updates? Has he been sending you any more weirdness?
  21. Well Rick, it's been a couple of days now; have you been back outside late at night? Will you ever do it again, or has your experience changed you?
  22. Ah, honto des ne?
  23. I'm not a slow driver at all. Actually, I just got nailed for going 80 in a 50! I'm screwed! Maybe I should've squirted the damn cop while he was trying to pull me over.
  24. I aimed my windshield washer sprayers up really high. Lately everyone's tailgating me, and when they do; I hit the "wash windshield" button! It squirts up and over my car, and hits them! The faster we're going, the better it works. They ALWAYS back off.
