Would that he does quit Kickchick. And hopefully the younger people in here will read that and think.

Aw Joanne something like this where you just click onto things and type entries would be a good first experience. And I have friends well past 60 who are active computer users. I meet a lot of older people in cat chat and word whomp.

Happy birthday Jack. Punching bag what a great present.

Persistenance, yeah that is really important. That thing inside of you that refuses to stop. That is one of the best things a martial artist can have inside themselves.

So does anyone work with sai? What do you like about them and if anything what don't you like about them?

Most difficult kata - to learn or to perform well
SaiFightsMS replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in Karate
I haven't done much with Tekki Sandan yet. I think I really want to feel a lot more comfortable with tekki nidan before I start serious work with another kata. I am noticing a difference in how stable my knees are in different movements since I have been doing the Tekki katas more often. -

When I was in Shorin ryu we had rank tips on our belts. But they were not to denote temporary ranks. The tips were part of the rank structure. We had fewer actual belts. We started with a white belt earned the next grade and got a tip. Then we would earn the next rank and get another tip for the other side of the belt thus using one belt for 3 ranks.

Koreantiger I see what you are saying. I think at some point everyone who trains in any activity on a reqular basis hits that point sooner or later. Crosstraining or trying new things can be good. Sometimes they even help show the old actity in new lights. -
There is more than one way to get someones attention and respect. :karate:cra------ck

There are some discussions that will never end. :argue:

Don't feel bad Ad it took me 2 years to do a spinning kick. You will get the hang of it sooner or later just keep trying. It is discouraging in the meantime but see yourself doing it in your mind and keep working.

is anyone else this addicted to the internet?
SaiFightsMS replied to babysteffee's topic in General Chat
Ooops I made a mistake. AOL 7.0 does still tell you how long you have been on line when you sign off. Is 300+ minutes a session an addiction? -
Why very old people should stay away from karate!

Intimidation!

You know I have read the Myths and Legends book. Guess I am getting to old too remember all the good stuff. It is a great carry around book. Hard to just sit down and go straight through but just the perfect thing for an uplift when you feel your training is getting stale. -
I hit thing before I meant to. Tell your mom she is defintately not alone. It may be a struggle but it is worth it. And at this point much of her battle is mental. The struggle is making her stronger wether she believes it or not. And just think in a while what the grand kids will think one day. When they see grandma's black belt hanging proudly on the wall. Or better yet worn proudly by grandma.

Your mother is not alone. I didn't start training until I was like 37. I was over 40 when I got my brown belt. And you know I do think those of us who are a bit older have more trouble remembering our forms as time goes by. And the further we go the more likely we are to go blank at the wrong time. It is really scary to find yourself sparring a healthy young person who may be your size but 30 years younger.

No I have not trained any where with temporary ranks given at a test. And I agree it is not a good idea. I would feel cheated if I were ever given a temporary rank.
