Why do we strive so hard to do the splits?
SaiFightsMS replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in Health and Fitness
Didn't mean to post a topic twice. I had a problem getting it to register. -
There is much discussion in the forum on how to develope the ability to do the splits. So does anyone actually know why we want to do them so much?

A little off course This is the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the chief of naval operations, 10-10-95. CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision. CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course. AMERICANS: This is the Aircraft Carrier US LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship. CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

The splits must be dear to the hearts of many. Have you noticed how many views this topic has gotten? Are the splits a neccessity or just a sacred cow?

I remembered another easy one too. Like when you are sitting in front of the tv simply open your hands all the way and spread your fingers. Then close your hands and make a fist. Start slowly and let the muscles warm up and increase the intensity. Sounds simple but go for a while and you know the difference.

Also if watching food intake and increasing aerobic activity produce no results get your thyroid function checked.

Like bar jokes? A fat ugly woman walks into a dark bar. A line of men on bar stools were sitting in the semidarkness. The famale announces "which one of you gents wants to buy a lady a drink" - said while raising her arm revealing a very hairy armpit. The men just kind of hunker down. All except one bleary eyed drunk on the end who says to the bartender "give the lady a drink". She guzzles her drink and repeats the performance once more displaying her hairy armpit. Same man buys her a drink. The other fellows ask him why. He says "a like to buy drinks for good ballerinas". The other men say huh? "She must be a good ballerina to raise her leg that high." Pretty stupid huh.

is anyone else this addicted to the internet?
SaiFightsMS replied to babysteffee's topic in General Chat
I must admit my first internet addiction was to a cat chat room. My horizons have expanded since then and I do more differnt kinds of things. As well as like 8 clubs. -
Well Jack, Buddhist philosophy starts with all life is suffering.......

Most definately Ronryu. Something those who do not appreciate kata will never understand.

Hello This is a pretty good site.

Jack my kitten is now a 13 pound 5 year old. She still thinks she is a kitten ane I still treat her like one. I still miss my Audriel. The hole does lessen with time though. As sad as it is when an adult who has done a few things in life it is so much harder when a child dies. It the girl enjoyed skiing though maybe going doing something she loved will help.

I remember that one Dreamer except I have done it in physical thereapy. Another wrist forearm exercise is to take a dowel or broom handle with a rope attatched to the middle. At the end of the rope hangs a weight. Holding the pole in front of you wind the rope and the weight up on the pole and then under control-let it roll back down.

Ever notice how much more important doing the splits is to those who cannot do them?

Very interesting. Kind of history repeats itself. How many stories are there of how martial arts were practiced in secret because they were illegal in Okinawa. The continent and the time may be different - as well as the style but the martial arts continue to survive. I think its a great example.
-
Okay I'll try. If a karateka could kick cans how many cans would a karetaka kick? Hows that?
-
Same here. Is it someones new personal style?

This is beinning to feel like the value of kata arguement. For those who want a kicken" cardio workout it is great. For those who want a more traditional martial arts program go there. I like to think most adults will have the wisdom to know the difference. For the open minded go to both. Learn traditon and fighting, then go and do cardio. They can be an excellant complent to each other.

Sorry Jack. Sometimes it does seem like too many bad things happen at once. People who have never had a strong bond with a feline companion will never understand the warm place they make in our hearts. Or the big hole they leave behind. When I lost my Audriel somehow I wound up with a new kitten the very same night. And, you know it helped a lot. The kitten needed so much from me. Give it a though or go to a shelter and take in a rescue. I lost my best friend last summer to brain cancer. We knew it was coming. But it was still very hard when it finally happened. My friend was with me at the vets the night I lost Audriel. Death can seem so senseless. Sai
