Oh and about belt ranking systems it really depends on your sifu he'll probly have one because if you dont these days your basically shunned and people wont be interested. We have a belt (sash) system it goes like this white yellow orange green blue brown black. I am currently at blow belt with 3 and a half years of training.

Well..this is my style so ill tell you a little bit of stuff. Mantis kungfu especially 7 star is alot like wingchun in the mechanics in how it works. its a very effective street form of kungfu. It sure as hell got me in shape but it depends on how tough your sifu is. the forms are very pretty youll learn such things as bung bo (crushing step) buk yun tao to and other forms. Also all these forms were stolen from other systems of kungfu because the mantis is sorta the "best of" kungfu compilation it steals forms from plum fist long fist and various others. it also has a couple of generic "shaolin" forms. have questions ask them to me since i didnt know specifically what you want to learn. glad to help

yesterday i went to a tournament and i saw a couple of really bad blackbelts. the first one i watched did his little karate form and it looked really bad his stances were poor he rushed it. his kais were a joke and he lacked any real intensity. then i watched a couple black belts spar and they were just poor they didnt block but when they did they just stood there and kept movine back and not countering. i find this sad state were in today when blackbelt means nothing of course there are alot of good black belts but crappy blackbelts are nothing new these days. what are your thoughts and opinions on this?

well the thing about dim mak (death touch) is that you have to develope a soft wet towl like energy to strike the points as the previous poster said its hard to explain. the most fun point to hit though in my opinion is the mastoid process wich is located right in th whole by your ear. pressure points are actually quite easy to hit than most of the others on the board will lead you to beleive. just bug your sifu and see if he knows some strikes. its alot easier to strike dim mak points with mantis fist or other have fist type strikes or total open hands. some people are able to hit the points effectively with normal strikes but that takes years and years of dedication. -
Yesterday i witnessed some of the coolest baton twirling ive ever seen but this does not belong in a martial arts tournament it was very sad if you want to do martial arts do martial arts and if not go into gymastics. this is my opinion. same with non weapon musical forms flips and the like is just silly but very fun to watch. maybe they should do wu shu isntead?

My kungfu club got invited to a mixed martial arts competition. And it was mostly karate. Okay first of all when I went into my kungfu form i was the only one doing a kungfu patern I did it excellently i think it was my best runthrough for my form yet powerful deep stances fast intense. Everyone else did the usual karate stuff. Now at the scoring part this is where it all got screwed up i got high 7.867 scores from every judge except one wich gave me a 7 even. all the scores seemed to be in the 7's at this rank. His reasoning you wanna know what he said to me! it loooks great but this is a karate competition not kungfu thats not right.... we were invited we wernt the only kungfu club their i know it sounds like im being a baby but i guess this is what its like at tournaments. Now secondly sparring me and my club was doing very very well at the sparring but alot of the points that we should have gotten we diddnt because of our kungfu esque blocks they didnt know how to call it! it was claerly clean technique we got robbed Now ok I admit i had alot of fun and learned alot but next time get some judges that know how to judge chinese paterns ! ps im not whineing and i did not forget the martial ways

lol thanks for the advice tibby and monkeygirl. Yeah im not to to nervous just anxious my form is looking really well sharp and fluid hopefully theyll be able to judge a chinese patern well enough. in sparring im going to try to win but hopefully learn more than anything
