How to block Low Kicks??
boxer replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My instructor is know as "little Chinese man that block many low kicks" said to use your foot before they throw it. Your "Chi" should enable you to "feel" this moment. -
Training/fight tips

Always look eye, as my sensai says. Also, you can strengthen your head by getting a brick and hitting yourself, but keep in mind to slowly progress from "soft" hits to harder hits. Then to condition your shins, you can throw yourself in front of a moving car, making sure to let it hit your legs first. -

I like the ancient art of Tai Bo kickboxing....it is fast, quick, and fun. My sensai says "nothing better than sweaty women in tight shorts". -
2 MARTAIL ARTS?
boxer replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
My sensai says "too much advantage my dojo", meaning that if you try to spread out too much you may loose your belts. He is a tenth don black belt. -
suppleness
boxer replied to Sissy's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Our sensai does an exerise called a "reach around" where he gets on all 4's and reaches back toward his buttocks to stretch his hips. Please remember to loosen up your belt on your gee to perform this exercise. -

Yeah, I agree with XpOisonFReex----man, kickboxing is like way neater than boxing. I boxed before and you could only wear shorts/shirt, but in KB you can wear your gee, and if you are feeling extra froggy, then you can wear your belt also. My sensai is known around the land as "one who wears gee into ring to fight". -
Front kicks to the head
boxer replied to Stelth_13's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
My sensai once only used a snap kick to ward off 3 potential thugs in a street fight one time. He is known around our land as "one with vicous kick to head". He can jump from 2 tree stumps doing front kicks to display his awesome balance. BTW, I am trying for my brown belt tonight, so wish me luck. -
Punches vs Kicks
boxer replied to Punchdrunk's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
First off, do not attempt to go "kick for kick" with a better kicker. I find myself trying to do this, and it takes me outta my game. If you hands are better, land them first then end with a kick or immediately side-step. Never stand and admire your work. Just as myself and Havoc have discussed, start with punches, and guage how they are guarding them. I find that most heavy kickers do not have very good techniques for blocking punches, therefore when the head goes down, or they block their whole face with their gloves, that gives you an opportunity to try to break their leg with kick. Throw at least 2-3 punch combo's, and I am sure they will go on the defensive. Do what you do best, and the rest will come a lot easier. -

Always told to move forward to crowd the kick like you would a heavy puncher. Keep the hands high in case you miss a kick though. -
Good Lord, thats alot of rice!!!

Just when I thought you were gonna be nice, you end with "being a puss"---LOL. I like that rolled carpet idea---that black bag is nice to hit. Mark also said about cedar chips with rags or sand. I want something that can condition my shins. Maybe I'll see ya tonite if you get some balls and come to P-burg!

How long for the basics of Jui-Jitsu
boxer replied to boxer's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Thank you---I was not aware that there was submission grappling tournies without strikes...That would be good to concentrate on grappling only. -
I (in the future) would like to compete in MMA/NHB fights, but I need ground fighting work. I have taken SOME JJ, and I now have access to Bayless JJ, and I wondered how long I need to give myself to learn the fundamentals of JJ. Please keep in mind I do not want to rely solely on my stand-up/Muay Thai---I would like to be fairly versed in JJ also. Thanks.

I am getting an empty Fairtex 6ft banana bag, and wondered what you guys have heard to use to fill it. I was told sand and cedar chips or compressed rags. I would like to go strictly sand, but that sure is a hell of alot of sand!

Nah Slim, I'll cut him a break on the computer since I kick his a** every time we train!! Serioulsy though, this is my trainer/training partner who broke my foot with his friggin elbow.
-
Ya know Havoc, I was just about to flip out and write a nasty message, THEN I figured out who you were!! You must be the fool whose elbow I broke my foot on. (LOL). Anyhow, you need to stop wasting time on the computer and train. See you Sunday puss.

Thats wierd you said that Slim...I just got over a fractured foot by doing the same thing. An exersise you might want to try to develop the shin MUSCLE is reverse raises. Take a band across your toes/foot and pull back towards your body. This will hit that muscle that runs along the front of your shin

Submission Fighter, thats good you know you have to move down. ALOT of people don't understand its extremely difficult to fight your "natural" weight class. Keep in mind, the guys your fighting are coming down in wieght also. Hell, I fought an amatuer at middleweight that walked around at 190 (he came down to 165). Amazing.

Footwork
boxer replied to Karateka_latino's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
The general rule is to jump rope, run, and sprint. Another good one is when you are shadow-boxing, "glide" forward and back, and side to side. Do this for 2-3 rounds EVERY time you work out. This will get in-grained into your head and will immensely help your sparring. Remember when moving forward your lead leg is pulling, moving back the back leg is first to move, and the same rules on lateral movements. -
Yeah Slim, I would buy one---there's nothing better for that hand-eye coordination. If you want' power though, this isn't the bag. Again, this is used for coordination and speed.
