I have just returned from a 4 week absence from TKD and aerobics. The absence was due to to some non-sport related surgery. They had a hard time keeping me from training, i was able to do light stretching but no cardio, and I went the dojang just to check in on the regular nites. My 1st week back has been interesting. All are worried that I am overdoing it but I feel great. I truely feel that I am back to where I was before my surgery (physically). Its like an addiction, this working out. My main problem was remembering my forms and not looking stupid when i did step back into class. So for this almost 40 year old memory was the problem not the muscles...lol

Rush Sweetie, If i had that type of mask on, I wouldnt be able to see that attack comeing...lol. I kinda like TKD's idea of it being a turn on...would distract u...hehehe

I participate in what is called cardio kickboxing. At the beginning of the the class, if there are new ppl, the instructor always states that this is not a Martial Arts class, but aerobics! I only started taking it cause a buddy suggested it for helping with the timing issues and the cardio workout sure can't hurt. I will admit to getting off beat every now and then cause i am working on a real kick or something.

I do cardio kickboxing aerobics - just coordination and cardio, treadmill- 3 minute intervals of fast/slow to burn fat and endurance, fencing - for speed and timing, kayaking - on the river for upper body and abdominals. weights - for lower body I try to rotate so i don't get bored and to work on different areas. While these are not really drills they do help with my tae kwon do in different ways

skipping ranks
dreamer38f replied to dreamer38f's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
angus....the skipping just causes you to learn twice the knowledge before the next test. It is a blessing and a curse, because now I must learn 2 forms and 10 one steps and perfect them all before the next testing, if I want to live up to this so called honor that the Grand Master bestowed upon me. tae and rushman: no i am not a black belt in any other system or style. My prior experience is in fencing and archery. -
How common is it for people to skip ranks? I do not mean skipping the knowledge required but ie...going from white belt to yellow with green stripe or from yellow/green stripe to green with blue stripe

oh, don't worry, i am and will always be 100% female! yes i did get the board broke on the second try, but like i said, it was just a challange in my mind to attempt this...was not why i migrated to this area of the arts. but i am on my way now...i am really enjoying this forum and all the insights that everybody has

tae and rushman, i too am in the almost 40ish group, altho i do not as yet have ya'lls experience and expertise. i did test for my yellow belt last nite but of course we do not get any grades till after the week break. I did choose to break a board during testing. as i did not start TKD to learn this...i did this to face my fear/shyness of being the only one in the spotlite. I still dont like that situation but...i survived and will do it again.

I was stretching for my class and heard the chief instructor say to the kids class, something on the order of...."this is not a secret, but it is our secret"..refering to ones TKD skills/rank outside of the dojang...after all, isn't part of our skill to get out of a fight/circumstance without any violance?...lol...like when Bruce Lee sent that man off on the boat and never followed him!

Have a safe and meaningful trip, james
