  1. What do you get when you cross a snowman with a shark? Frost-Bite
  2. I used to have a life...then I discovered....ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, PalTalk, AIM, and the Chat Rooms.
  3. Jack, Try....Sensei...I am told its fiction based on fact concerning old sword warriors. I will get the author's name later for you.
  4. The martial arts includes mind training...why couldn't it be poetry or writing or painting. The creative side of the mind is partially what allows us to develop our bodies, or how else would we come up with these new and inventive excercises? remember the old saying...use it or lose it...well we must excercise the mind and the body.
  5. And how do you calm/slow your inner self? My method...take a deep breath, clear the mind and ask, is this really worth getting an ulcer over? No, it doesnt always work but sure makes me think :pony: And yes, the computer will for sure test ones patience [ This Message was edited by: dreamer38f on 2001-12-22 18:00 ]
  6. Well if i cant get the dial up to work, I think i am the FIRST one to call and find out what the problem is..lol I finally replaced the hard kitchen chair with a nice big easy chair here at the puter. When I do those are u addicted quizzes...omg...they sure sound like me
  7. BOTH---- There is an art to making the form/kata look flowing...yet...it still has power and authority. Anybody can memorize movements, but can u make use of the different techniques--be it in sparring, forms competition or real life.
  8. Oh I forgot bout that one, Sai. It is a very good one also. :idea:Gonna have to tell my son bout that one.
  9. What do old people smell like? Depends
  10. You guys are to funny Here is an exercise several old weightlifters do: take a full sheet of newspaper....hold your arm out in front of you palm down...put the center of the paper in your palm and start crumpling it into a ball...be warned tho, you may have some sore muscles after this exercise
  11. I do like looking at that 1st board...that since of self accomplishment is awesome Tonite tested for green/blue stripe..the method of choice of the grand master was the spinning reverse side kick..only took me 3 times but i didnt give up and got it accomplished and my 15 y/o son actually got to see it ...lol, wonder if he will pay a little more attention to me now? He decided on the way home he wanted to try to break it smaller...."NO way that is my board" was my response
  12. Sai, I also have that 1st board, I am not sure as to why but that board I will always keep. Maybe because it is hard proof of a challange/doubt that I had in my mind. Now for the next question....Keep the subsequent boards? Eventually that could be quite a few.
  13. I use meditation/relaxation/breathing to get my brain back on the subject at hand or to forget what it is that is distracting me. When in the dojang...that is the subject at hand, not what my kids are doing are how hard the day at work was. Basically like sai said..to get to a level center point or as I say....get back to earth
  14. How tall is this guy? I have found that tall vs. shorter....the tall person has a hard time judging distance up close, this would also limit your kicks but if u could get in an all out punch it might work.....but of course you have to get in and get out fast
  15. lol @ jakmak....i always say...do what you want to the hubby, but leave me alone [ This Message was edited by: dreamer38f on 2001-12-07 18:44 ]
  16. When a parent enrolls a child in the Martial Arts, that is the stuff that MOST will promote, how the arts will help in life in general. Help the child in school, social settings, etc. When I started MA or any of my other sports, it was to present a new challange to myself, and to become the best I could be. It has never taken long to remember that there is more to the sport than the physical aspect of it. Sometimes, we start class off or end with something that the instructor has found in his reading. This is always something to make the mind think and expand. Sometimes we have a class of...well its basically Tai Chi. The kids and sometimes myself are always impatient in these classes, lets get physical get to the real stuff. But then I take a deep breath and remember that this is all needed...the mind, the body, the spirit...and this is our schools way of promoting those parts of the MA. When was the last time u practiced a tenet of TKD? Was it when u let that car into the long line of traffic or didn't show your road rage....you know, you will get there eventually, was it when you didnt help to spread the latest office rumor, called as soon as you knew you wouldn't make that meeting or appt so the other person could schedule something else at that time? Just a few other ways to practice those tenets outside of the dojang.
  17. dragon warrior, I came to Martial Arts via, archery....fencing... and finally Tae Kwon Do. While in fencing, I was told to take aerobics to get my feet and hands doing different things..it helps with the timing and coordination.
  18. wow rushman sounds just like my job only i work in a nursing home but i am not a nurse but a ward clerk. Muay here are my answers: 1. I enjoy my job. something different everyday, and i get to deal with people(past generations) that made us what we are today. And there is soooo much to learn from them. 2. reading, writing and speech are very important. deciphering anothers writing, and talking with family members and other medical ppl requires two totally differnt languages and approaches. 3. like rushman...every day is different...someone may have doctors appts. that they want u to go with them to, or they may just want to talk bout old times or their family or well u just never know. 4. yes it pays the bills, but i do enjoy the ppl and to know that we have helped them understand/enjoy their life at the moment is very rewarding.
  19. welcome jimmy, people get into martial arts for all reasons, with getting into shape being one of them, but u cant succeed unless you show up and workout--mind and body. As far as which MA to choose, visit a few schools, ask questions, etc. I myself like TKD! good luck in which ever Martial Art you choose!! kick high
  20. for each belt test at ya'lls schools? or is breaking even part of your testings? For yellow belt and yellow/green stripe, we had to do side kick or step behind side kick. For green, I had to do a round kick For green with blue stripe, i am expecting to have to break with the hand.
  21. Did I read somewhere that Bruce Lee had one leg shorter than the other?
  22. To all of us that will be eating to much this week....Enjoy your turkey, ham, and dressing!!!!!! Just remember next month is the eggnog and other goodies Have a good holiday season everybody

  24. My school does sell equipment and bags, of course. Like u said it was an individual preferance. I do like your point on the white hand pads tho, had never thought of that. I might try it. Do you also wear white kicks?
