  1. First of all I think Starchild alluding that he has become telekinetic through chi/ki is ridiculous. He's been watching too much X-Men. Second Combat Ki is VERY dangerous, and if they really believed in their "art" they wouldn't be marketing themselves as some kind of supernatural method that makes people invincible. They do demonstrations and go on TV doing these things, dont they know children try EVERYTHING they see. How irresponsible. A true art form would save these "secrets" for the black belts, or masters.
  2. It would be better to continue looking for a school because while you may learn the techniques, you may continue practicing them improperly, there is no substitute for an instructor fine tuning your techniques in class.
  3. " Nothing wrong with that, it should be the national pastime
  4. Muay Thai, honestly I think breaking boards helps you to develop explosive power, which is different from raw strength. If you expect to break bones in a fight you have to know what it feels like to break something equally hard, as opposed to training your punches on the heavy bag and being surprised when you dont do much damage on the street. Breaking boards helps you to understand how to end a fight very quickly.
  5. Since it is probably one of the more common street techniques what do you all think is the best way to avoid or counter a tackle/two leg takedown
  6. Isn't DW4 the greatest game out now? My man Zhou Tai is the best fighter on the game. Has anyone else played it, who's your favorite character?
  7. I've noticed a lot of Martial Art themed shows have several random bad guys that the hero fights. Has anyone here ever been an extra, and if so how do you get your foot in the door. Someday I want to have my own show or be in movies. But I consider being an extra first a realistic starting point. Isn't that how Jackie Chan started out?
  8. These work for me 1. Left hand backfist, Left foot spin kick (head), (if they both land he should rush in). Jump back kick. 2. Backfist, ridge hand, offensive side kick These are not fool proof but, if there is an opportunity, move strong and fast and they'll work
  9. Me and a training partner of mine have sparred many times and know each others moves pretty well. Knowing this he has started to only fight defensively only throwing a sidekick in defense no matter what the attack. Ive tried blocking or (taking the kick) and try to get inside but he just moves back and keeps throwing. Sometimes I wish I could sweep him but that is against the rules. Any ideas? He has developed quite the annoying grin an I intend to wipe it off.
  10. The next time I hear someone say Bruce Lee would whoop Tyson, I think I'll gag. Bruce is one of my idols, but so is Tyson. Anyway Tyson out weighs Lee by almost 100 lbs. And Tyson and Lee are about the same height so it isn't like there is a big target to shoot for. Plus Tyson's stance is very low. Not to mention Tyson is just flat out crazy, one punch could knock Lee out, Ten would kill him. I know it is damaging to our collective MA ego to think one of our very best could be beaten by the proverbial "bigger and stronger guy" but Tyson isn't your average bigger and stronger guy. .........Oh yeah Tyson would DESTROY Tito Ortiz too.
  11. Although I agree there is no best style. I would like to see an expert from both styles agree to an exhibition match. It would be interesting to see whose kicking techiniques come out on top. And before you say it ( ........well MT uses knees, elbows, and punches.) yeah yeah, we learn that stuff too. Geez.
  12. The continous Kiai very annoying!
  13. Are you guys kidding me, people forget that Tyson isn't just a hard hitter, he's also frighteningly quick. I think a grappler would have to be a master in their style to even stand a chance. Tyson is much to strong and fights like the devil gone beserk.
  14. My school doesn't teach Hapkido just TKD, but I would like to learn because I have heard they compliment each other very well.
  15. I dont think nationality matters at all, I think you had a bad exp. with a non asian instructor and are overgeneralizing it as inferiority. I've seen black belts of all races and nationalities that are fully capable of teaching properly.
  16. This isnt the same as Combat Ki is it, because I saw that on the Discovery Channel and as part of the demonstration they would get like eight people to surround one and all punch him in the throat at the same time. They would take direct kicks to the jewels, and blindfold themselves and take kicks to the chest. I personally did not feel that anyone should be taught or shown these techniques.
  17. Thanks everybody that all made a lot of sense
  18. I agree with white tiger, I practice TKD and I believe that Kung Fu has much more beauty in their forms. They also have the advantage of training their minds similar to an internal art form, as well as training with a variety of weapons.
  19. I know you mentioned the Kung Fu Styles in style 3, but also more of the animal styles of Kung Fu, Eagle claw, snake, Tiger Claw, Longfist.
  20. One time I ate a International Omlette at IHOP about an hour before class. I was alright until sparring time when I had to fight the instructor an he nailed me dead center with a sidekick. I was lucky it wasn't worse but I still had a turtle head pokin out
  21. Wouldn't it be cool if DBZ was mainly about Vegeta instead of that dork Goku? Cant they make a spinoff? He's so cool I'm gonna grow an Afro and wear white gloves and boots all the time! J/k
  22. Honestly I'll admit NHB my instructor would beat me down, but in sparring classes sometimes I get the best of him. He's not old or out of shape, I dont feel like I'm taking advantage of him. But I dont know if I should hold back for the sake of the other students watching, or keep the heat on in order to make us both better?
  23. I dont like Olympic TKD. I think it is rather incomplete and flashy, too much emphasis on competition. It is part of the reason people "think" TKD is just about flashy kicks, when it is not.
  24. Q: Why dont hillbillies like to eat pickles? A: Cuz they have trouble fittin their face in the jar
