Honestly I think someone should call this guy out. It seems at best ridiculously boastful and ineffective (and somewhat unnecessary. No forms or sparring? Soooo its only function is exercise or beating people up?), and at worst something that will get someone seriously hurt trying to defend themselves from an armed attacker.

Wow, that was interesting. One of them got knocked out and the other blew a knee.

Punches to the chest can score, it's just... they don't because you have to generate a shocking tremor or whatever, and they're usually wearing a thick pad designed to prevent that.[/i]

Everybody has their personal favorites that they'd love to see them do. It's really been informative seeing these different styles in action, and noting the differences and similarities. Much better than that XMA show Discovery Channel showed awhile back. This is the real thing.
When they go to Korea, I would like to see if they do a segment on TKD's early days and the fact that it was used by the police and military before it became known for fre fighting.
I would be interested in seeing the direction they take on portraying TKD's history.
They'll probably go the same route they went with the other episodes: Embellish the ancient history and play up the various legends (without necessarily verifying them), and then give an accurate description of the recent/actual history.

HMmmm . My momma told me that when I dont have good things to say about something , dont talk....
These people wanto to be a serius sport...I dont get it... What is next ? Poker Karate ? Kick boxing -Warhammer ?
And.....any boxer good with some basic chess skills , may resist 2 min in chess and then KO the other guy ..in less than 2 mins.
The boxing part seems to be dominant under this view...
It's speed chess. A 12 minute clock. use up all your time and you lose. Also, you will receive a warning if you don't make a move at all in the chess round, and if you get two such warnings you are disqualified.

There's no such thing as a "technical" answer. If it works, it's "technically" right for those people.
so technically, "ain't" is a real word and is grammatically correct? No. It's slang... incorrect, but people use it. Same goes for anything. Just because a person does it doesn't make it right, just means it works for said person.
*cough*

Webster says it's aight

I was always taught that a parry and block were two different things: A block intercepts a strike, knocks it aside, or at the very least puts something between your face and the other guys fist. A parry is supposed to guide th attack to just miss.
Of course that's easier said then done.

We have the whole set of these at my school and as I was looking up ones to buy myself I notice that they're pretty expensive. Shopping around I found a few cheaper ones these for example. (that site has the century ones cheaper too, actually). Is there any word on the general quality of these? how many breaks could I expect to get out of them?
But I mean, $60 a board? I could get 40 boards for that!

I would suggest not, but I value not having carpel tunnel.

woah woah woah. Be careful using body-weights. You can seriously injure yourself. if you even think about that route make sure to take it slow and easy and don't do your techniques hard.
-
sample size is too small. And did they seriously only let them do one strike at the machine? This isn't bad science, it's anti-science

It's certainly a different sort of martial arts, but i think the choreography will hide her real technique. She's "slow" because she wants to be seen. It's a demonstration.
-
Maybe the instructor wanted you to be stable financially and focus more on that before spending time doing something like martial arts.
-
You could probably try the SCA or other local bauffer/what have you clubs

I don't really like the show, but I don't really like any reality television. I find the scoring format a tid asinine. Are they seriously adding the total points scored in sparring to both peoples scores? It's like winning the contests is bad...

No, the UFC does represent a real fight. However, it is "as real as it gets" and UFC/PRIDE fighters ARE the best fighters in the world.
No, Marines, SEALS, SAS, etc are the best fighters in the world.
I'd rather fight a UFC fighter than any of them. But that's beside the point.

My instructor needs to get a copy of my second dan certificate, which I can not find, for my kukkiwon number. Neither of us have it recorded. Is there a way to retrieve it possibly using my Dan number? (or, am I insane and are these the same things?)
-
Yes and many cops never use their firearms as a weapon.
-
I'm not much a fan of the hook kick. It seems counter-intuitive, and under powered...
-
As I understood it doing pushups slow had less benefit since you're not building explosive power (I've usually trained for speed. my record thusfar is 75 pushups in 45 some seconds)

any weapon?
I'd like a bowie knife, a set of brass knuckles, and a handgun. I wouldn't ever carry any of them, but i'd like to own them.
if i wanted something for self defense i might take a stun gun or something.

Hey guys im looking at getting into martial arts, i will try to give you some information about me and if you have any advice that would be great. The main reason i want to learn a MA is for self-defense but maybe another style of fighting might be beter. I have posted here before so some of you might remember me im 140 pounds 6' 1" i wear size 15 shoes and im 13 years old. Some of you recomended a kicking art and this is where im leaning right now. Right now i just need to decide on an art and pick a school. Thanks for your help -Max
I know this thread is a little old, but when I read it I really needed to post.
Max, if you're 13 and you're 6' 140 lbs with size 15 feet, you need to go, no RUN, to the nearest swimming team in your area. There's an Olympic medal out there with your name on it.
Seriously. Your dimensions are perfect to be a REALLY good swimmer.
Respectfully,
Sohan
Living vicariously?
Well, that swimming can build awesome strength. In pretty much every muscle in the body...

I'd go for uniqueness and name it after an HP Lovecraft story

wait wait wait, we have to exclude weapons?
Okay, my brother taught me this technique. Get him into a clinch, and right away, bight his ear, cheek, or nipple, and squeeze his balls. If he tries to resist one, go harder on the other!
Okay, that is, if he doesn't punt me into a wall
