  1. I am not sure of what you are looking for exactly. If you mean what to do to lead into these spins, I suggest a sidekick or roundhouse into the spin. If you mean what to practice on: a kick paddle is the best to develop your aim and once you can land that without error, try a board. A single board should be easy since you are hitting it with your heal with either kick. Although if the person holding the board is a limp noodle that will ruin any break.
  2. I agree that everyone should be involved in most public demonstration. It is only fair that every student should be able to show off their skills and hard work. It also makes the most sense to show all abilities and levels of students. To have the students that are decent (average) next to the people that are really good lets the public see that you must start somewhere and what is possible. That alone encourages sign ups. While a floor lined with A+ students is impressive, it can give a lot of onlookers the feeling that they cannot do it.
  3. Chung Do Kwan- My instructor was a student of Duk Sung Son History lesson below: http://www.usu.edu/taekwond/history.html
  4. Anyone that was interested in this manual and was too lazy to go through the website can buy one off ebay. Here is a link to one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3621509136&category=16044
  5. Also a quick note: If you are uncertain that these forms are proper for your system of training, feel free to call the number through the website and ask questions. It is my instructors direct line and he can help you figure out if his manual will be of any benefit to you. He also has an email link as well.
  6. For anyone on here that might do TKD Hyung forms, my instructor has released his forms teaching manual and is selling them for 22.50 plus shipping. I have found it to be a great tool in learning new forms as well as aiding in the recovery of the forms I did as a lower belt. It covers beginner through advanced black belt and most importantly covers applications of all of the moves. It is available through his website at https://www.classictaekwondo.com. My apologies to the mods if this is in the wrong section or improperly posted. Kevin
  7. Thanks for the warm welcome!
  8. My take on the popularity in bashing TKD is that it was introduced to the world with marketability as the main goal and creating a name for Korea. Money can ruin any good thing when it comes right down to it. However, there are schools and instructors with integrity and an interest in preserving the art itself. The experience training in Chung Do Kwan TKD and then having a visitor from a "chain" type TKD school made it clear to me that I had picked the proper place to train. I concluded the problems and bad reputation stem from schools that are more interested in teaching as many students as possible with little regard to quality or integrity. The school that I train in does not participate in olympic style sparring because we believe it is not practical to train heavily padded and be unable to rely on these items when you encounter a real fight. So you might say the differences between the styles are that one school of thought looks at it as a sport and the other school a martial art. Either one has its benefits depending on what you are looking for. With that said either one can be negatively affected by commercialism with little emphasis on training students properly.
  9. Hello all, My name is Kevin and I have been doing TKD for over 10 years. I am a 2nd Dan in Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do and continue to enjoy the many benefits of the art. Looking forward to gaining some information from this site as well as hopefully being able to contribute to it.
