It's a pitty they don't make cartoons like they used to. This generation of kids have to put up with crap like pokemon. When I was a little kid there was astro-boy, voltron, dino-riders, thunder cats, transformers, ninja turtles, and of course He-man and She-ra. They were the best cartoons ever. He-man was probably my fav cartoon ever but I had no idea they were making new episodes. I hope they can revive the whole he-man craze. The movie Masters of the Universe kicks * too.

One of my mates in highschool introduced me to Qbasic in my early teens. I was obsessed with the damn thing for about a year. I used to spend hours sitting there on my old computer making all these games and questionares that I would get my sisters and mom to use. I would fill it with heaps of profanity and stuff that really offended people. It was awesome.

Listen I own a couple of documentaries about Bruce Lee. He was believed to be the fittest human being ever and the strongest man in the world pound for pound. He could perform pushups on ONE FINGER. Now you try doing that. He would exercise for a minimum of 2 hours a day, every single day. In spite of all this I don't think he could benchpress 400 pounds. The strength and muscle mass required to do that is only possessed by dedicated bodybuilders/weightlifters/powerlifters.
-
Assuming that you actually meant "benchpress" as opposed to "bunchpress" then i'd say there is NO WAY that Bruce Lee could do 400 pounds. But I would like to know where you heard this?

Warp Spider is right on the money as usual, listen to his advice and you can't go wrong (i'm not being sarcastic either). Wrestlingkaratechamp17; I can't believe you're even contemplating using physical violence against a teacher. I mean grow up man. I am a fairly violent person myself, but I mean...assaulting a teacher who is there to help you? Don't be a fool. And don't hold a grudge against this teacher for no reason...respect him and he'll respect you. It's just highschool man.

The Gracies
AUSSIE replied to Kumite988's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Kumite988 if you wanna see the Gracies in action, just watch some of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) videos. -
Spot on Bdaze. You should use a normal peice of rope for skipping. I know its suprising, but normal rope is much better than most "skipping ropes" you'll come across. With rope you're able to skip faster and get a better workout because it's heavier. Maybe the leather rope with ball bearings would be good, i've never tried one. But don't buy an ordinary skipping rope, they are defective if your trying to actually skip FAST to get fit. Try both and see which works for you, I think you'll find the normal rope is much better, I know I did.

What I meant was, I wanna be a good BODYBUILDER and I wanna be a good MARTIAL ARTIST, independantly of each other. My reason for lifting weights is not to improve my martial arts ability. My reason for doing martial arts is not to improve my physique. Because when your trying to bulk up and stay extremely agile/supple/flexible, it doesn't work that way. The MA training burns calories. If your a bodybuilder, that's not good. MA doesn't build muscle, it may make you harder and more defined because you lose bodyfat and become leaner, but that's the opposite of what i'm trying to achieve...i'm trying to bulk up - just increase my overall muscle size. And when i'm big enough, i'll start cutting up. Plus the muscle soreness that you get from the intense weight training sessions is counter-productive when you get into the dojo...you're too sore to give it your all, and you're trying to get your body to recover but you're being made to do all these drills and crap, and you don't wanna do pushups/squats/situps at MA training because the muscle is sore and you're trying to rest and recuperate...not tax the muscle even more. Now can you see the dilemma i'm talking about. I think maybe wrestling is the only true example of MA and BB being able to gel together really well. The bodybuilding training is going to help you when you wrestle, bodybuilding is PART OF wrestling training. It's like killing two birds with one stone. But i'm doing karate, not wrestling. That's why I admire and respect people like Vandamme and Phil Barroni so much who've done both.
-
I'm kind of at a crossroads right now. I wanna be a muscular but I don't wanna sacrifice my martial arts skills. And I wanna be a martial artist but I don't wanna sacrifice my physique in the process. Do you think both can be done successfully? I'm gonna try. People have done it before like Jean Claude Van Damme and Phil Barroni. Is anyone else on here a bodybuilder?

I just want to know whether Bruce Lee drunk alcohol? I've heard that he was a casual pot smoker but i'm not sure if its true. Just something a friend told me.

I've got this book too. It's pretty hardcore. The program that the author expects you to do is pretty fully on. It's not like you can just have to do a few stretches every day. I mean he talks about how you need to strengthen the ligaments and all that by doing strengthening exercises of 100-200 repetitions. I just thought wtf how am I gonna do all this

The Big Question: Why Do You Do Martial Arts?
AUSSIE replied to Sutton_uk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well I do it cause I like fighting and I just wanna be able to smack people and i'm obsessed with the idea of becoming UNBEATABLE. SMACK SMACK -
Ahh good old pushups. I have probably done more pushups than any person on earth and I have never had any wrist problems at all. For strengthening the upper torso I would choose normal pushups anyday, I only do knuckle pushups on concrete to harden up my knuckles to get caluses and make them tougher. If the wrists are a problem then you should try using pushup bars, that way your wrists will not be bent in such a way whilst performing the pushups. Here are some ways to strengthen your wrists. The best exercise to develop the wrists would probably be wrist curls with a barbell. That's the exercise that bodybuilders use. You can also buy those little hand grip things that you squeeze together. I use them all the time when i'm bored. Another good exercise is this; clench your fists into a tight ball and squeeze your fist up towards your wrist as hard as you can. Try to squeeze your fists as hard as you can and feel the whole forearm flexing. Hold it for about 6-8 seconds, then release.

close or actual encounters
AUSSIE replied to TKD Chosen One's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In highschool I got into some other serious confrontations because of this friend I had who seemed to attract violence wherever he went. I was always having to stick up for him and help him when gangs were after him. All sorts of stuff used to happen. About a year ago me and that friend got chased around the streets by a car full of thugs. They came right up to my friend so he smashed a bottle of vodka on one of their heads and then we fled...we both ran in different directions and got separated. I got away from them by running into a park. They couldn't drive their car into the park obviously, so they had to stop the car to get out and chase me by foot, but they couldn't catch me. It was a dark night and I eventually lost them by running through alleyways where they couldn't take their car, and hiding in peoples front lawns etc. -

Once when I was only about 14 I was walking home from school, through the park, and these 2 guys who were a bit older than me came up and started pushing me around and sayin they were gonna beat the crap outta me and and rah rah rah (I found out the following day it was a case of mistaken identity). They were about a year older than me and they had a friend standing there watching with his girlfriend who were about 3 years older than me, so I was doing everything I could to get away without fighting them. I just kept walking and saying "what the hell did I do? I dont even know who you are". But they persisted to shout and abuse me and tell me to "put em up." I tried to completely ignore them by turning around and continuing to walk home, but one of them jumped on my back and tackled me to the ground. We were both on the ground so I kicked him in the head as hard as I could and got up and ran. They didn't catch me, even though I had a backpack on me and they didn't. Then one of the idiots came up to me at school the next day and apologised to me because they realised they had mistaken me for someone else. I'm 18 now and I really hope I see these people again so I can hurt them. -
You killed the mosquito and now its ghost is haunting you

My thoughts exactly mate. The CGI fight scenes in the sequel were beyond ridiculous and the action just wasn't as good as the first one. They focused too much on the storyline, and it was a really lame storyline anyway. They should've just made it an all out action movie like the first one. If number 3 is bad then its gonna be a crap trilogy overall.

Tank Abbott is pathetic! He has no MA skills whatsoever, he's just a big thug. I mean his style is a dead giveaway..."pitfighting"? What the hell is pitfighting? His so called style may as well be "street thug". LOL I have seen most of the early UFC's and lots of the fights are excrutiatingly boring. There was this one fight between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn where they just walked around in circles looking at each for nearly the entire fight, literally. They just tip-toed around the octagon like little girls, too afraid to commit to an attack. The whole time the ref John Macartney was trying to encourage them to get into it, but they just wouldn't. When they finally did make contact, Shamrock was just lying on top Severn for a while pinning him down, then vise versa. When the half hour (I think?) time limit was finally up, it was up to the 3 judges to decide a winner. Severn won but it was the most boring fight you will ever see. The best UFC was probably the one where this kickboxer (I think Pat Smith) fought Royce Gracie in the final and Graycie won. That one had a few good fights.

new van damme movies
AUSSIE replied to tkdlegend's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Theres heaps of movies in which Van Damme has played mutiple characters, usually his twin brother...these are off the top of my head; double impact maximum risk timecop replicant knock off Interesting trend. I haven't seen derailed by I was told by a friend that its a carbon copy of Under Seige 2. -
best of the best
AUSSIE replied to IAMA_chick's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
granmasterchen what is your instructors name? Has he been in any other MA movies? I reckon "the best of the best" movies sucked but that Phillip Ree is an awesome martial artist. The Karate Kid trilogy was good but I really could have done without number 4 - The Next Karate Kid. -
Favorite Martial Arts Movie
AUSSIE replied to Chris from CT's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Van Damme's earlier movies like Bloodsport, Kickboxer, No Retreat No Surrender are my fav's. I also really like Enter the Dragon, and The Karate Kid. The "Best of the Best" movies are pretty poor. There is a few scenes of decent martial arts action but the storyline and everything else is atrocious, its so stereotype and predictable that its almost unwatchable. -
Some of you people really need to inform yourselves of the facts before you go sprouting. You all say "van damme sux" but you don't have a reason. Van Damme was a world class fighter. He started Shotokan Karate when he was 8 years old. He was the European middleweight karate champion, then he went to the USA to go for the world championship. He didn't win, but he had a rematch with the guy who beat him and won this time in less than 2 minutes. Watch some of his earlier movies when he was in his twenties, they were serious martial arts movies like kickboxer and bloodsport where his amazing ability is evident. Watch kickboxer when hes doing these awesome 360 degree leap kicks one after the other, its an awesome sight to behold. You reckon he has no skill...you try replicate some of the feats he performs in that movie, then you will be "humbled". Everybody seems to know that he did ballet and everyone says hes a crap fighter and he can just do the splits because he did ballet. True, he did ballet for 5 years when he was a child, but he is a lifelong devotee of martial arts. He has also won bodybuilding titles, can speak 4 languages, he is still in excellent shape at over 40 years old, and all you can do is say they he sucks? Go figure. He still trains and lifts weights and being in the great shape he's in, i'm sure he could kick the * of some overweight slob like Chucky or Seagul boy. Jackie Chan is the one who shows little true martial arts skill in his movies. All he does is run around jumping over furniture and climbing ladders etc, while evading about 100 guys at once. Whereas Van Damme actually uses moves in his movies that he would perform in a real life situation.

True shes a babe, but the movie sucks.
