  1. If you ever are looking for art supplies, check out http://www.dickblick.com for a wide selection of art supplies, still know quite a few people that work in their distribution center from my days there.
  2. If you decide on cutting out of the art class, I would consider calling the museum or whomever is sponsoring the art class and tell them politely that they need to take a look at the class and make some improvements.... As for the art supplies, keep them, unless you never plan on using them again, but who knows, one day you might find some free time and want to expirement (sp?) with your creative side. This one is a tough one for me, being an artist and a MA, but I think I have to agree, go to the weapons class.
  3. I think pineapple is right, unless the instructor gets a class that has a few blackbelts at various levels to delegate to, the instructor teaches more than he can train. Even the lower degree black belts will try to delegate to competent advanced colored belts (brown and brown/ black in Kuk Sool Won's case) if possible, and by getting the brown and brown/ black belts involved with the teaching, it prepares them more for the black belt role.
  4. I got down to about 0.24 seconds
  5. Justin turns into Iukekini
  6. Master Zefo is a county sheriff in Illinois, so it makes sense that his demonstration is handcuff and rope techniques. How about school results? Master Harvey's school take 1st? Master Zefo's school make it in the top 5?
  7. When I started Kuk Sool, I decided that I wanted to do Asian influence for my bedroom, I am slowly picking out pieces that I like and fit my budget to make my room a unique part of my living space. Over my headboard, I have four decorative wall scrolls, a dragon, a tiger and dragon, a tiger, and a pagoda mountain scene. On the nightstand I have a small table lamp with rice paper shade. I have a giant (40"+) hand painted wall fan with double dragons on one wall. On the other wall, I have some framed calligraphy (Target special find, I didn't say everything in the room was authentic, but I try to make it feel that way) over my dresser, which is my next project for the room, but on the dresser I have (another Target find) a small Buddha statuette and a small wooden chest that I found at a craft store that I am in the process of finishing to make it look more authentic. On my other nightstand I have yet another Target find, a small ceramic vase with Ginko leaves on it. Currently my bedsheets are black and linen colors, with a very bold, yet masculine comforter, with various patterns and shades of browns. I have two small accent pillows, the smaller of the two is red with oriental inspired medallion shapes and little golden dragons on it. As for the larger of the two accent pillows, it is more of a cream colored with dragons and peacocks which works nicely with the rest of the browns in the room. Back to lighting for a second, I have a floor lamp with brushed nickle finish and a tall tubular distressed looking rice paper shade. That is near the dresser just inside the door. Another Target find is a small desk lamp designed to look like a wooden Japanese lantern with rice paper shades. What about the floorcoverings? Well since I am in an apartment, I am limited with what I can do, thankfully, the carpet is neutral toned and works with the other browns that I have used. I currently have two area rugs (another Target special buy) that fit the color theme and sort of fit into my theme, but I do have a few bamboo rugs that I am saving for the time being that fit into my overall theme better. Now I am getting to the harder parts: dresser, headboard for the bed, nightstands, and maybe a bookcase or two. Finding the right feel for the furniture will be tough. I also am thinking about a few paper lanterns, a dragon kite, folding screen, and maybe a few more wall accents (leaning towards weapons to finish it off). Probably not exactly what you were looking for in a response, but I thought that I would share my interior decorating project.
  8. I have a Nokia, but no landline. Use my Nokia as my landline, have it on all the time except while at work.
  9. Unfortunately for me, I just didn't have a cooperative work schedule or enough funds to get into Jack's studio more than once or twice for the year I lived in the St. Louis/St. Charles area, and I am afraid that it my work schedule is even worse to try to sneak over to Milwaukee and train in the Marquette school, which is a lot closer to UW-Milwaukee than it is to Marquette U.
  10. I didn't judge at last year's tournament, but I was score keeper for brown-black belts 5+ stripes, I was running short on funds and time to get ready for the tournament then too. If you get a chance, I would talk to all the black belts that you can that have judged before, they can give you pointers and standards for scoring.... Kind of hard to believe that this will be the first time in over four years that I haven't made it to the St Louis tourney. Keep an eye out for the Knoxville, Illinois school. Although rather small in numbers, the quality of Kwan Jang Nim Zefo's students is superb! They usually place 3rd or 4th after Kwan Jang Nim Harvey's school and Jan Butler's (Davenport, IA) school.
  11. No offense to the Kung Fu artists on the site, but I just can't leave out "Kung Fu Fighting"
  12. I got my screenname back as a sophmore in high school. At the time, I wore a lot of Nike clothing (hey it was comfortable!) so that is where you get the "Swoosh", that little curvy thing that is their trademarked logo. Also at the time, I had recently found out that I was going to Finland as a foreign echange student, so my dad thought he had better start calling me a "Finn" (the term for someone from Finland). Then my dad got the brilliant idea of combining the two nicknames he had given me, and the "Swooshfinn" was born. My foreign exchange year (my junior year of high school) influenced me so much, I have kept the nickname and use it as one my two virtual identities, the other I use strictly for match.com and yahoo personals.
  13. Yeah, well I'm not that old (26) but I apprecciate the pioneers of rock and roll and respect what they actually did for music. Also like some of the cutting edge techno/dance/trance stuff that is out there by my listing of Darude, Robert Miles, and The Crystal Method. I just find that some of the classic rock works really well to help pump me up and keep me motivated, besides, it doesn't get as old to hear the classics over and over again as compared to some of the top 40 stuff that is out there now.
  14. Originally from the "flatlands" of west-central Illinois, now residing on the west side of Milwaukee.... although would prefer Finland
  15. -Darude "Sandstorm" -Robert Miles "Children" -Prodigy "Breathe" -Garbage "Special" -Garbage "Push It" -Metallica "Enter Sandman" -Metallica "Unforgiven" -Guns N Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" -Smashmouth "Walking on the Sun" -Van Halen "Jump" -Survivor "Eye of the Tiger" -BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive) "Taking Care of Business" -ACDC "Thunderstruck" -ACDC "Back in Black" -Ozzy Osbourne "Crazy Train" -Queen "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions" -Green Day "Chump"? -Stephenwolf "Magic Carpet Ride" -Stephenwolf "Born to be Wild" -Timo Maas "To Get Down (Fatboy Slim Mix)" -Bon Jovi "Everyday" -The Crystal Method "Vapor Trail" -John Mellencamp "Crumbling Down" -John Mellencamp "Authority Song" I can keep going forever, I think...
  16. This was my year for getting first place in my fantasy hockey league. Bring back the fastest sport in the world! I guess I'll have to go to the Milwaukee Admirals games or take a road trip to Rockford. Waiting for World Championships!
  17. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think that Doug and others will back me up in saying that, Kuk Sool Won was originally based on Kuk Sa Nim's influences from other styles, and that is how Kuk Sool is so comprehensive compared to other Korean arts (so I have heard). So I really don't see any problem with incorporating other styles exercises into Kuk Sool, as long as your Kuk Sool still looks like Kuk Sool.
  18. stuff I like... no one influences my cologne purchases but me
  19. Well up until 2 weeks ago I was the first assistant floorcoverings manager for a home improvement chain in the upper-midwest of the ole USA. I took a lateral promotion and am now the first assistant manager for the electrical department.
  20. Issey Miyaki is overrated..... If you want a REAL cologne, try Marc Jacobs... very complex, warm and exotic; with hints of fig, sandlewood, and leather. It also has some staying power too. I also like Polo Blue, Alfred Sung Hei (pronounced like he), and the discontinued Contradiction by Calvin Klein.
  21. Well lets see..... Since my latest job (retail management) doesn't allow me to get into the studio very often, I would probably be closing in on my last few stripes as a brown-black belt. But I haven't been in the studio training for about a year and a half now..... so I am still at brown belt, which is probably where I am destined to stay. There is a studio downtown Milwaukee, I should try to check it out sometime in the very near future.
  22. Wish I could make it, but might be making the move to Minnesota or Indiana And my sisters wedding is this weekend, cant miss that
  23. I found a Swedish site that lets you build your own slot car race tracks... you can race alone or against a parrot... no loops or wall climbing though. Here is the site: http://www.tv4.se/lattjo/kojan/bilbanan.asp
  24. For any KSW Students down in Texas, if you run into a Puh Sah Bu Nim Will Culbertson living in Austin, go easy on him, this is his first time on his own and should be a HUGE adjustment for him. He tried to get me to come down to Austin with him, just to help him out, but I found a job with a company that only spans the upper-Midwest from North Dakota to Nebraska to Ohio and back, so I couldn't go that route, besides, he knew I didn't have any money saved up to make that kind move. Anyways, PSBN Will is a great guy, very likeable. Kind of a movie and theatre buff, and has been reading some interesting titles lately as well. I think the last email he sent me, he stated that he was sitting next to a really cute girl, so I hope that turns into something (wishful thinking on my part, but maybe that might be enough to overcome any homesickness he might face in the next few months). He aslo said that he has mad it over to Houston on a couple occasions already to go to Association events with some of the Austin folk. I really encourage you to get to know him if you get the chance!
