  1. Hello, Thank you for visiting KarateForums.com. Unfortunately, we removed a couple of posts from this thread in error. Please find them below. I apologize for the trouble. Thanks, Patrick Excellent! Thank you! I will give this a look!
  2. Thank you for the submission, Danielle. I appreciate the level of detail you went into. Patrick
  3. Hey all, I watched Scorpion King 4 on Netflix with my brother last night. I was checking it out because one of the actors in it - Brandon Hardesty - is an acquaintance of mine. I thought it was a fun movie. But when it came to the credits, I noticed a bunch of big martial arts names. Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Royce Gracie, Antonio Silva, Roy "Big Country" Nelson and Eve Torres-Gracie are all in it. They have small parts, but I thought I'd mention it in case some of you want to check it out. Here's an article where Wilson talks about it: http://www.mmamania.com/2015/1/16/7551023/don-the-dragon-wilson-talks-scorpion-king-4-planned-ufc-fights-royce-gracie-matt-hughes-mma
  4. Thank you for updating us, advfhorn. I'm glad that you informed your Sensei. It's a difficult position to be in but the fact that you care says a lot about you. Thanks, Patrick
  5. Thanks for the kind words, ps1. Congrats on making the leap to full time, as well. Big move. Keep us updated on how that goes, if you find time. Patrick
  6. Hello, Thank you for visiting KarateForums.com. We recognize one member every month as the KarateForums.com Member of the Month for their positive contributions to this community. The February selection is... RAM18. Congratulations! Thank you for all of the contributions that you have made to our community. Sincerely, Patrick
  7. Hey all, I would like to congratulate ps1 on becoming the 16th member in the history of KarateForums.com to reach 3,000 posts. This occurred in mid-January, and I would have mentioned it sooner, but I was getting ready to hit the road. When you look at ps1's 3,004 posts, the number is big, but I think what hits you more is the quality of the posts. It's something I've always noticed, for several years, as he has added offered insight, asked questions, helped others and brightened the days of other members. I have never taken that for granted. We are fortunate to have ps1 as a part of our community. Please join me in congratulating him on this mark! Thanks, Patrick
  8. My pleasure, Brian. I appreciate your message. Thank you to everyone who has replied to this thread, for taking the time to celebrate Brian and this milestone. Patrick
  9. Some KarateForums.com members live in Texas, but probably none you would know of. The most well known within the community is PSBN Doug, who I believe lives in a suburb of Houston. Patrick
  10. Thank you for the update, Bob. How are you responding to the steroids? Patrick
  11. Hey advfhorn, Thank you for posting. Here are some resources for you to check out: http://sioutreach.org/learn/friends http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mentalhealthinfo/problems/depression/self-harm.aspx (search "What can I do if I know someone who self-harms?" - it's about half-way down the page) http://www.helpguide.org/articles/anxiety/cutting-and-self-harm.htm#helping I would read through them and use them to guide you. You can only do the best you can. The weight of the world doesn't fall squarely on your shoulders. You are not responsible for them. You are just a person trying to help. These types of situations can be difficult, and different people will respond to different approaches. It's not a one-size-fits-all type of thing. You can't make assumptions - about the person, their parents, their instructor, etc. - you can only approach it in an open-minded way and, again, do your best. Good luck. No one in this thread has expressed that sentiment. I would encourage everyone to assume best faith. Thank you. Patrick
  12. Hello, Thank you for visiting KarateForums.com. I wanted to draw attention to the fact that Brian Walker (bushido_man96) has hit 25,000 posts. Similar to when Heidi (ninjanurse) reached 10 years on staff, I am in awe of this accomplishment. It's a crazy number, but what makes it truly meaningful is the quality of the posts that Brian has made here over the last 9 years. Think about all that those 25,000 posts represent. For Brian, I'm sure it represents a lot of personal growth, friendship and fun. But also, think about what they represent for others. How many people has Brian helped, supported or simply created enjoyment for? Easily thousands of people. Maybe more. It's incredible, the impact that one person can have. Brian is kind, smart, generous, helpful and always hungry for knowledge and growth. What 25,000 posts doesn't really show is everything that Brian has done as a member of staff here; helping to maintain this community, so that others can benefit from it. Numbers don't reflect the care in which someone approaches the role of moderator, how much of a team player they are and how they make other members feel welcome. Please join me in congratulating Brian on this milestone. Brian - thank you for the tremendous (hard to find a word that adequately describes it) contribution that you have made over the years. Thank you for everything that you've done as a staff member, for being a team player, a professional and a loyal friend. It means a lot to me. Sincerely, Patrick
  13. Hello and welcome, Mr. Bryers. Glad to have you. Patrick
  14. Welcome to KF, Milhafre! Best of luck with your first test! I'm sure some of our members will have some advice for you. Thanks, Patrick
  15. You miscalculated, Bob. I've been wanting to get rid of you for years, and this represents the perfect opportunity. You've given me a great loop hole here, and I fully intend to take it! Of course, just to confirm this publicly in case anyone would actually wonder, I look forward to your continued contributions as a member of our team. Thank you for your support over the years. I think Hawkmoon said something worth highlighting: "As one of the first guys to 'chat' with me..." Those first few members who interact with a person are what make someone feel welcome here, and feel as though they are a part of our community. For many members, like Hawkmoon, you have been one of those first few. You've touched a lot of people here. I'm sorry to hear about these health troubles and that they are causing you to take a step back from the martial arts, but I look forward to hearing about your return. Sending positive thoughts your way. Thanks, Patrick
  16. I was really saddened to wake up to the news of Stuart Scott's passing. Like many sports fans my age, he was a part of my childhood. Such an engaging personality and an enduring example of strength. He'll be missed! On a martial arts related note, during one of the tributes, there was a brief clip of him boxing and it mentioned how he had used MMA to restore the energy taken by his cancer treatments. This article talks about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/12/sports/espn-anchors-private-battle-with-cancer-becomes-a-public-one.html Also, here is a clip, from March, of Scott performing a rear naked choke on another ESPN personality, Michael Smith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrLEoys3wds Rest in peace, Stuart Scott. Patrick
  17. Awesome. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Patrick
