Bruce Lee VS Jackie Chan
Shogun replied to Kung Fu Hamster's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Bruce Lee hands down. Chan is great and i love his stunts but i honestly belive bruce would tear him up. Lee was just a better martial artist. -

haha yeah i just played that game, i saw it in an arcade. its great, i sliced my brother up 8 rounds lol. i was a samurai guy with purple(i think?) clothes and redish hair. dont remember the name tho.

Kyle-san, yeah thats what i was talking about, but 1ONEfighting seems to disagree with me.

as far as the more traditional weapons go, get kamas. if you can master the technique of spinning them by their strings, you will most likely do very well. however, you should really look into the wushu weapons, like the broadsword(and also double broadsword)or spear. i was watching a weapon tournament one time, and all the contestants were good. there was bo, katana, kama and one guy had the broadsword. well like i said the other ppl were good with their weapons but the broadsword blew them all away, no problem. so dont limit yourself to the more common weapons like bo. -edit- i would not reccomend sai. that they are heavy does not matter to me(lol im used to a 10 pound kwan dao) but they really are not that flashy and are very limited to what you can do in tournaments. they generally do not do so well in competition.

first, you must know how to fight without weapons. once you have become proficient at that, move to weaponry

wooden chuks can be devastating. i mean the hardwood ones. sure they might break after a dozen fights, but it would be more likely that you wear out the string connecting them together than the wood actually snapping.
-
i would go with bokken. i like the bo, but once you cover the distance, much of the bo is useless, whereas the bokken will still be functional. however, if you are not skilled at covering distance, the bo will destroy you.

What exactly is a reverse blade sword?
Shogun replied to KaratekaAikidoist's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
bah, "jack" is a disgrace. i have only seen a few kenshin but at least they differ mildly from episode to episode. samurai jack just cuts everything that moves. oh and lets look at the title here. a samurai, with the name of JACK??? lol oh besides that the animation is horrible -
whats the difference between kendo, kempo and kenpo?
Shogun replied to Crucio's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
kenpo and kempo are the same thing as far as i know (i take kenpo). i have never arranged any flowers lol. i think the kenpo and kempo is like kung fu and gung fu. 2 names, same thing. not 100% sure tho. -
hmm good point, i didnt think of the fact that alot of places dont train their students for actual fighting. some dont spar at all heh im now ranked as a yellow belt here. cool

those damned teenagers from the dell intern commercials X( they are seriously annoying little snots.
-
no, a wavemaster is not a sub for the heavybag, i have both and they are much differant. my belief is that a good karate student will generally beat a good boxing student. boxing only uses hands, while karate uses both hands and feet in harmony.

Deadly and dangerous strikes
Shogun replied to Nickgarren's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
perhaps a half-fist would be better for a throat shot? that how we generally practice throat shots in kenpo. a punch to the throat can be very very bad to the reciever, just a mater of force and hitting the center of the throat and applying adequate force:) you know that healthy "SNAP!" your gi makes when you bust out a strong punch? congradulations, you can crush someones throat. -
to ninja: yeah i just rented the movie, havent watched it yet i will have to read the book sometime too.

i think they do exist but they seem pretty idiotic to me. i mean...why? the opposite side? makes no sense. -

What's consider4ed self defense?
Shogun replied to BKJ1216's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
if someone attacks me, and i counter, its self defence. if i attack without the other guy attacking me first im just fighting. pre-emptive strikes are risky -

monk spade? nice! how did that work out for you? you like it? whatabout the kwan dao? you like that weapon?
-
i cant help but frown upon the little toothpicks that are populating tournaments now. i know that they are supposed to be flashy and quick, but come on! the things are so light i feel like im holding a hollow piece of alluminum...oh wait..I AM HOLDING A HOLLOW PIECE OF ALUMINUM. i think that they have taken the weapons way to far from their origins.

well my situation is a little differant than most. after class i go upstairs into the top floor, which no one else goes up into except some fellow instructors. since we have our own little room, i keep my things up there as well. i dont fold my gi, it isnt practical. its all sweaty, and if i fold it up like that the sweat wont dry and the gi will get real ripe real fast of course i do bring my things home to get washed when they need it!(much to everyones relief )
