  1. I have pain in the heel of my right foot. I've had it for about a week now and it hasn't gone away. I think I got it from practicing too many jump front kicks and trying to land on my right foot. It hurts to put any weight on it or when I run. Anybody have any good tips on making it feel better? Other than the obvious don't land on your right foot! Thanks!

  3. You came to the rehearsal last night?? Who are you!!!
  4. In response to Iamrushman's question about what sport the chinese will introduce as a demo sport.... I believe it will be wushu...
  5. Anybody have any good tips for doing the Lotus Kick? I'm talking about the one legged one. Where your right leg is kicking and your left leg is bent. Which way are you supposed to land facing? Anybody else here practice modern wushu? Thanks.
  6. Wow...Spinning Gumby pretty much summed it up...!
  7. If you are talking about modern wushu then, "NO" I don't think it helps in a fight. But I guess it would also depend on the school and teacher.
  8. Hello DarkMonkey! The fact that you recognize and you are able to list the things you are doing wrong is a sign to me that you are getting better. When I first learned the no-hands sweep kicks I thought I would never get it. I just practiced it over and over and over and over.....etc..and just became more frustrated. So one day I sat down and thought about exactly what I was doing wrong. And believe it or not I wrote out a list like you did of all the things I felt I was doing wrong. Then I just worked on correcting those things and for sure...my sweeps are better now. Better not good! Now that I know what NOT to do I just work on doing what I NEED to do. Well that's my little story. [ This Message was edited by: owthathurts on 2001-10-16 23:36 ]
  9. Hi Foreverlearning! A few tips from my Sifu: "Stand straight! Chest out! Stomach In! Shoulders dropped! Stretch everyday! Point toes inward when stretching! Every movement must be clear and distinct." I e-mailed you but these are some basic tips to keep in mind when practicing wushu. Keeping a straight posture when kicking or while practicing stances is something beginners forget often. Good Luck. By the way...I think I got your name wrong in the e-mail. Sorry.
  10. Geebus GoldDragon! Thank you for that history lesson! I enjoyed it a lot.
  11. Hello mikeod Nice to meet you. That is a good idea I'll try to find out when the school is open. Thanks for the tips. Good to see you GoldDragon Lol. Kicker.
  12. Hiya Slim Yes the leaning backwards will help for dodging and being able to bend your body into a bridge shape while standing. In wushu you have to be generally flexible everywhere. And I think the kick backwards exercise is to help us do the butterfly kicks. Thanks.
  13. wow more replies while I was gone! So these stretches are suppose to make me more flexible when I lean back or kick backwards right? Hey Slim and Aikidoka nice to meet you. Thanks for the tips I will try them out.
  14. okay...slightly off topic! The shoes our wushu class wears says Kukkiwon on it!
  15. Hello Kickchick Hello iamrushman Nice to meet you guys. Thanks for the wonderful tips. I will try them out and see how they work. kicker Gold Dragon thanks.
  16. Hi guys Hi thaiboxerken I know what you're saying. But I'm not learning butterfly kicks or jump kicks to use in a fight. I'm learning them because I enjoy learning wushu and I think it would be cool to be able to do them. Yes I could land softly, but I definitely don't have enough to do anything like jump kicks that require a lot of room to run first. Especially because I live in a apartment. Hi kicker I'm not quite sure how high I have to jump to do the kicks in wushu. Hello Gold Dragon.
  17. Hi guys. I was wondering if any of you have good ideas for increasing flexibility in the back. I have a pretty stiff back so I was wondering how I can make it more flexible. I only know of two stretches I learned in Wushu class. One is standing away from a table(or any surface you can put your foot on.) and putting one of my feet on it and leaning back. The other one is just a backwards kick. Where you throw your arms up over your head and kick one of your foot up at the same time. I have been doing these exercises but I don't feel like I'm becoming flexible fast enough. Have any ideas? Thanks Again.
  18. LOL....GoldDragon!! That isn't such a bad idea either!! I probably am kicker!
  19. Hey guys Thanks for the replies... A couple things though, I can't practice on the roof because...well it would be dangerous It's not one of those large apartments with stairs that lead up to the roof. Our apartment in only like two floors. And I live on the top floor. When I practice at home I do move all my furniture into a corner to make more room. But that still wouldn't allow me to do jumps because I don't want to disturb the people that live downstairs. I have thought about practicing outside, and I would if it was sunny in Seattle. But it's usually raining here, plus winter is coming up so I wouldn't be able to practice outside. Unless I wanted to slip and slide all over the wet grass while landing from a jump. The open gym idea I've thought about. Never gone to one before is there usually a lot of people there? Is there a lot of room to practice large motions? Thanks guys
  20. Hey I would like to know also. Do any of you live in Washington, Seattle area? I'm looking for a good Muay Thai school right now....if anybody could help that would be great. Thanks.
