  1. Not in any order but will be made up of Boxing, BJJ, Thai boxing, kick boxing, Krav Maga, Savat, Jui Jitsu, Wing Chun, JKD(if you call it a system), shootfighting(if you call it a system). Sure there are a few more but dont come to mind at the moment.
  2. Thanks for the replies I feel i have maybe opened the can of worms that has been waiting to be opened here but someone has to do it. Neil. I dont know how to put this politly but you have NO IDEA what you are talking about NO IDEA AT ALL> People like you infuriate me. I intencely hate the boxing isnt an art and isnt self realistic because they wear gloves etc. It is so misunderstood. Please get some understanding of what your talking about first.
  3. No One seems to react to any posts listing boxing as effective. It seems to be constantly pushed to the back and not regarded as a martial art or even a fighting system. I think most of you are too scared of it. I think the rest of you cant face the fact that something that seems so simple is so effective. I would like to point out that boxing is highly complex and the most underated system in this forum appart from a few and they know who they are anyway.
  4. Thats rather differnent from weights machines. Please you lot try to understand the point and forget the georaphy stuff. I know where thailand is. Im saying that the training methods are now largely western in style and there is a divide on this forum between people who follow either the western influenced way or the eastern. FOrget about the little grey areas im trying to make a valid point that there is a classification here and that there is a conflict between the two on this forum.
  5. I hardly see the point in replying but i will anyway. Mauy Thai, Kickboxing ,Krav Maga etc all embrace boxing and the ideas that go with that. Those ideas being training in a weatern manner weight lifting running etc and the way in which it is practiced. No Kata not much in the way of gradings all with full contact sparring etc get my point? You can group these systems as they have all learned their training techniques from the western way of traing if you like that or not. Also there are many western martial arts (geographically)although you may not know about them. To think that only the east has them is ridiculous. There are German spanish english and irish systems etc. They have only white and black belts and are very good.
  6. Not in a silly competition but in a real fight a lame back fist (you never said where it hits) would be a poor trade offf for an elbow in the jaw. So why would the opther win for landing something first if it would lead to them losing a fight. I dislike point sparing intencely as it totally criples Karate. Another stupid western addition to a fine system.
  7. In reality you would get the win so how does that work? Elbow in the jaw or back fist. Hummm?
  8. Look forget the east of west as geographical its a mind set which is internationally recognised. Some countries that are geographically the east share western ideas of fighting. Its not what Karate_Woman says grappling vs striking its quite different and its a mind set.
  9. I have noticed that there are two ditinct groups of people in the forums. Thos who belive in the eastern styles being best and those who prefer the western. I catagorise western as Boxing, Mauy Thai , Kick Boxing, Krav Maga ,JKD,BJJ etc as western as they closely follow western ideas about what is effective. Very direct no fancyness and real sparring. Eastern being Karate, TKD, Kung fu etc. Eastern systems follow a less scientic route and teach older percptions of the way the body works and what is effective. Interstingly the eastern systems are also more rigid in their teaching, more regimented and a bit more organised. You could also split these into modern and old or science based to non-science based etc. The main argument seems to be what really works in a fight with opinion divided as above. The who forum seems to revolve around which systems are effective and those that just dont work. Ultimately each post is the same, repeating the same questions bruce lee vs tyson, TKD vs boxing MT vs karate. some conflict betwwen western systems but not much. Any comments?
  10. Id go to a different club. It does not sound good at all. Let me guess... blocking a round house kick with an arm. If thats what it was then serves them right.
  11. remember your feet turn and move as well when throwing punches. Pivot on your lead leg for a left hook and rear leg for a right hook etc.
  12. A worn belt shows years of hard work. But that means nothing unless it is coupled with real skill. A worn belt alone is a dirty rag. Put it on a karateka who is superb and it shows years of edication and skill.
  13. Yes most clubs appear to have completely lost focus.
  14. I have a lot of experience with conditioning. I have conditioned my body to the point where i dont feel pain. COnditioning of the groin is most important and i beat mine with a club hammer daily. I cant feel a god damned thing down there anymore so sex is out of the question which, as a karateka, is a bonus as we're not likely to any anyway. I know in my heart and in my pee pee that i will have that fight one day where it will all be worth it. I hope i have inspired you to train harder and forget pointless aspirations of having sex with beautiful women. And remember folks.... Bash that penis for every time it didnt work just when you thought you were going to get laid. Time for mine now.....ok willy........here comes the pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Its so easy when you know how. Heres how, Im a boxer of 6 years and im fast. How? Get some light hand weights. No more than 2 Kg thats 4 lbs. Punch 30 secs straight line as fast as you can jab cross jab cross then 30 secs rest. repeat 3 times more. Then do uppercur hook uppercut hook. It works
  16. Sorry thats you should not be moving in a square in a fight
  17. Its quite straight forward. Used in boxing alot and i assume its the same thing. You practice moving and punching in a square or takeing diagonal steps for the triangle. So the sqaure might be three steps to the left punch on each step front foot then rear foot not crossing your feet. then three steps backwards then right and then forwardws and you have done a square. Its a drill and you should be moving in a square in a fight but you can apply a step backwards then to the side and you wont cross your feet. Its for begginers but later on you do circles and other stuff.
  18. You cant quite teach spirtit as such but it comes from the way you are trained.
  19. Thats different. To stay in college requires motivation. If you want to stay in college you will. In a fight the motivation is there already. You need to find something more than that to win though. You need to be able to pull out that animal instict inside you to win.
  20. Yes but i dont think you can compare the things in personal life to a real fight. The intencity is differen. With everyday things you can back off a bit and think "i dont want to do this anymore" in a fight you cant do this you have to be totally commited.
  21. The ability to go for it and be agressive and not backdown even if you think you might lose.
  22. Who thinks that the fighting spirit has gone from most Karate clubs? I do. DOes anyone thnk it will come back?
