yes, im not about to sign up for k-1 now, at this point many five year olds could beat the crap out of me im just saying one day. I have the FIRE to defeat my opponets, and i seem to learn very quickly, i think if nothing more can be said, i will be a good fighter someday. I will do my best to prove my arts strength and that these terrible things being said about it are all false, ill prove that with my fist. Because one thing ive learned from this forum is its stupid to sit around and talk about one styles superiority to another, the only real way is for YOU not some random fighter, to jump in the ring and prove it. Im sure you can agree with me. But belive me, i will be in K-1, its funny you bring it up because when i started the martial arts my dream was to compete in K-1.

*smirks* yea, but those 'top fighter' havent met me yet. you might say i have a "secret weapon" belive it or not. ill win!
-
in that case i like ernie reyes
-
sevral times now ive seen a weapon that seems rooted in china, it appears like a long cloth or towel. what is this, how is it used ect.? im really curious!
-
yes! thank you! more more more! this is a great art thats been verbaly abused to much, im sure sensai Funakoshi is rolling in his grave after all the work he did ridiculed, he needs a bigger cheerleading squad, come on all you shotokan practioners, if this style is so popular i know your out there, lets go!
-
im not sure i understand the question
-
your right, you do only call your teacher that in the dojo. im simply convinced thought that if im good enough, my art can defeat muay thai or anything else that comes my way. (BTW, saw your other post, looking for a muay thai victory over my art huh? good luck!)
-
yes but remebr to that that fight concludes every time the wrod is mentioned searchably, not nessaciarly because theres that many sites solely on the topic of shotokan, i call everyone here over blackbelt sensai just for fun, i did not mean to offend.
-
will, for one i just dont think there anything great, yet there flooding the market. 2, i have a deep seeded intrest in japanese culture and history. and the third reason i cant discuss, lets just say it has to do with a week i spent in south korea and a very tragic event, im sorry im not aloud to explain further
-
oh, sensai i didnt see the rest of your first mesage. could you explain what those stats mean? im a little confused, and i was aiming the shotokan thing at TJS, i forgot his name as i was wrighting the reply, sorry.
-
TJS, i just thought of someything, thanks. ive been thinking lately about who i want to challange first when i get into mixed martial arts comps (the thing that intrest me most about TMA) it will be a proven fighter of muay thai, ill iliminate the idea that shotokan is inferior and my hatred for korean arts in one blow.!

let me correct my comment. i think kempo is a great art. i only spat at the floor to american style, because i belive all that is is dumbing down a good art and sucking all the culture out of it. Are you claiming that shotokan is a poor art? why is it i get nothing but negitive feedback everytime i post something! surely someone must agree with me, i mean this seemed to me to be common sense. and what did i say before, shotokan isnt cheap or easy, so there you are wrong.
-
your absolutely right, just like popularity is definitly not the best source of fasion critique 9i hate aber crombie and finch) but that dosent mean aeropostal is nesaciarily bad clothes. i mean, there made of good matrial and they dont tear real easy. So why should popularity kill a good arts credibility? im sure you can agree with me there. when i started shotokan, i honestly didnt know to much about it, i thought it was actually fairly rare since i only knew of one dojo near me that taught it. I most certainly dont like it cause its popular. i like it cause its agressive and well formed and lets face it, i like it because i think im pretty good at it! i have a body type that fits well with this style.

Hi all, Okay, lets face it, theres a big facination in modern day martial arts community with the 'secret art'. you know, the one that supposedly only exist to a few people and was written by some aincient sage in the year 1 with a bunch of zeros BC. this is mostly created by hollywood of course, but its cause what i belive to be a great error in our society. Few of us actually train in some aincient mystic martial art, but we do tend to be more attracted typically to the more rare ones. This includes rarer forms of karate. Now i am a shotokan artist, and i love it, in my opinion its probably one of the greatest arts out there. However its been getting ragged on alot, and i keep hurring this over and over: 'its the most popular form of karate" which i find intresting since it seem everybody i meet is either kempo, or american style (spits on the floor). I want this topic to be a bit of a cheerleading session if that all right. Whats wrong with shotokan? whats good about it? and why is popular bad, isnt there a reason so many choose shotokan? just as a pill advertises 'most perscribed by doctors' theres probably a good reason for its popularited, and as a practioner, i DEFINITLY wont buy that its EASY or CHEAP.

ive been looking for a dojo that traditional for a long time and have yet to find one, nice catch!

deferintiate between sport and martial art? that was kinda a stupid statment to make if theres any way to say that respectively. Yes, the roots of the martial arts were for millitary purposes, the word budo literally means the millitary way, but even though i am a traditional student, i belive that the martial arts have evolved. there are many reasons to study now, self deffense is one, so is fitness and so is sport. so you prove through this topic that in self deffense, one style out ways another, how will that show to one who wishes to get in shape? or one like me, who is doing it in sport. this may sound ignorant on my part, but i doubt im going to use my training much in a real situation, ill basiclly strike once were it hurts worse and keep moving. ignorance is claiming that there is but one purpose for the martial arts.

this post is exactly why i fill that my idea should be in place. it may seem far fetched, but hear me out i think you all will like it. there needs to be tournment, not conected with the olympics, thats either annual or every four years. What would happen is top minds would first be selected to seperate what is and isnt a 'martial art', this includes every combat form that can possibly be used in sport all over the world, from karate to wu-shu, to boxing to fencing. Once this is done, each art could select a board to vote on its rep. then, the boards for every art and style would look at the results of fights throughout the year and pick one fighter who could best represent there art/style. A large scale tournment could then be held to decide who was superior, it would consest soley of free sparring and weapons. (weapons is nesaciary, so certain arts like fencing could be included) ZThis would need great media attention, there are already mixed tournments, but there sorta lame, if you seem them in the century catalog youll note they look like there from the wwf. If for no other reason, this would be a sweet tournment to watch simply because of seeing all the diffrent styles and people from all over the world in one dojo.

na ha, i wanted to wait till i get the sparring equipment first, which will be soon. there are plenty of ppl willing though.
-
is the fighting spirit gone from the dojo's: in many, yes is it gone from karate?: NEVER!
-
i dont blame you for not wanna go to a dojo, dont let these guys rag on you to much, but what you might wanna do is find an instructor, make friends /w him/her and try and get some private lessons. The price will usally be lower, heck for me its plain out free!
-
hi everyone, wow i thought this subject was going to die, im sure glad it didnt! lisen, just wanted to give a report of my progress and see if some of you new comers might wanna change your opinions just a wee bit. I went to my yellow belt test, got it with flying colors from a qualified instructor, then we proceded to train some. i learned a lot in those two hours! were supposed to do it again next week and see if ive perfected the skills she taught me that day, dont tell me yall dont even practice at home!!! also, her boss, the big instructor for her dojo, is working with me in other ways to. His alowing me to view some classes, at times to use there equipment, and also is planning to set something up were i can (for a fee) compete in there tournements. Im really learning alot and now have proff thats its working. i am still an advocate of martial arts are ARTS, not sciences, but understand im not actually 'self trained' shot, i dont even own a karate tape! wish i did though... but most was research and the help of my sensai.
-
i do not need this to put down my confidence, i will recive my 8th kyu today and prove to you that your wrong, i know very well my techniques i simply wanted clarrification from fellow students to insure that i was correct. 3 minutes now till test time, ill see you all when im a yellow belt.
-
oh yea, i forgot, i would find someone who is qualified to test you for belts and correct your mistakes, also, if you dont already have one, buy a gi! there useful, comforble and if for no other reason, they look really cool!
