i have to be honest, after getting nailed at that museum I developed a real prejudice for people of Native american decent, mainly because that wasn't the last time I'd get talked down to. It seems like you always have to be so careful when you talk about anything dealing wit hthe subject. I know thats not right and I'd really like to study it again but I need to find a way to appraoch the situation without sounding disrespectful. I have talked to ex-Japanese fighter pilots about the war, no sweat but this always seems to back fire. I think I should learn what, specifically, is tabu in this arena.

in regards to 'isnt sparring more valueable than breaking." Is kata more valueable than sparring? You can't comapre those two. There two different aspects of training. Breaking is power and focus and really, its math. Sparring is speed, strategy, courage under fire.

Well, what iv'e gathered then is this. The best way for me, if i decided latter I wanted to, to learn a MArtial Art of the Native Americans is to befriend someone with knoladge, earn there respect, and be taught.

perhaps this is why Native American martial arts arn't really taking off? No one wants to be compared with people like Regan? What I find intresting is in all the sites I was shown there never seemed to be (except maybe once) A Grand Master who was purelyNative American. Odd.

Oh, also you mentioned teaching it in an urban enviroment, you wouldn't necissarily have to. i think the closest we coem to teaching it comes from the BSA, which I do not support any longer, but they just teach in the woods, where it belongs. You could certainly do this, but there may even be some styles that could potentially be taught indoors. After all, with all the different tribes there are there would be many different styles.

I have to disagree with you, which is about to make this controverseal. I know why they would keep it to themselves, but I think it's a bad move. For one thing everytime I hear something about Native american society today it's always "No one cares for our culture." well i did. I go through bouts we're I become obsessed with different mythologies and culuturies, my friends say I'm a different race every week. I became intrested in the mythology of Native Americans on our side of the river and went to this museum to learn more. There was a tour guide of Native American decent and when I tried to ask a question I was completley thrown down and given a pathetic excuse for an answer that basically added up to 'well your a white boy so of course you don't know about that, nor should you." If they want me to care about there culture than I suggest they open up, I didn't do anything to them. And by 'selling out' thats a sad statement, teaching someone else a Martial Art and teaching it responsibly is not selling out, its contributing to your community and to your world, for beofre we are members of any nation, neighborhood, or tribe, we are citizens of the world. I don't mean they should commercialize it, but they could do some good by teaching these arts to people outside there own small communities.

of course there are tons of asian styles around, and organizations like ARMA are reviveing european arts, i'm really suprised we arn't teaming with 'dojo's' for Martial Arts created by the original Native American tribes, I knwo they must have had some. If i'm not mistaken, the reason the Special Forces patch is an arrow head is in honor of native American stelath fighting tacticts. so why is it we don't have this being instructed? I bet they could blow Ninjitsu out of the water if we could just get them in the market.

well now this technically goes two ways. I know an instructor in Isshinryu down in SC that lets students coming from different schools to wear what theve earned. qoute: "I can't exactly suck the knoladge out of the're heads can I? well i bought the book on Iai, i'm really enjoying it. It's making me take care of my own weapons and gear a little better and I'm enjoying the philosophy and history a lot.

Okay, to be honest, I read like the firstfour post then decided to butt in, so I really don't know we're the conversation is going at this point, and for that i'm gonna go to hell when I die but... The problem is it's getting we're we can date ANYONE ANYWHERE any more. We can't date people we work with, I hear dating at your high school/collage is a bad idea, the "bar scene" is getting a bad rap, and now the dojo is elliminated. People this is we're we spend most of our lives, these places. Even in a place were it ISNT tabu to meet someone, askign a girl if she wants to get a drink can be translated as sexual harrasement. It's just getting silly. My personal experince isnt all that brood. I liked a girl in my dojo ones, got her number, and decided we had nothing in common, in fact her dad was making her train because he was a sandan. So I can see why it causes trouble but people, come on, I mean lets not deny it anymore the mate hunt is something we GOTTA do!

Taisabuki! It's called something different in Chinese but it means 'body movement'. Moveing away from a strike is best, blocking a strike second best. (whoa, I sound like Sun Tzu! ) If I block in a fight it's cause I messed up my strategy somewere, but thats just how I fight, I'd rather justmove around the opponet and make him look silly. Instead of just moving your head, change your body position. I don't know if this is applied in Shoalin though so don't take my word on that.

Well, Iaido is still the better choice for me because i'd be doing it out of just pure intrest more than practical use. I will probably learn both but i'm more likely to payfor an Iaido class than a Kenjitsu. BTW, whats the difference between Kenjitsu and Kendo other than suffix?

okay, the only difference is the way I was taught, the arms cross before the pivot, the movement is a block in and of itself

Of course. I can't tell my muse to go away she'll never come back! But weather it will be a full martial art, an internal art, of merely a philosophy, she hasn't said yet. Anyway I applie the main concept already but my goal is to continue on as an Isshinryu Karateka for now.

I would start a revolution if i could just find some people to do it with me. I like the concept of white to black only. okay see maybe we are calling the same technique two different things, or maybe we were jsut taught different. at the IWKA I saw 6 people perform seisan six different ways, one of them I saw doing ki breathing as they pulled the arm back that three times thingy, thought that was pretty cool. Thos "wedge blocks" on the shuffle forward, both movements when you do it look exactly the same?

does this fact hold true for both wester nand eastern chivalry? lol, according to western chivalry, guys can have like, 20 girls. Or I guess you mean a more contemporary form of chivalry.
