What fiction book are you currently reading?
tommarker replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in General Chat
"San Manuel Bueno, mártir" Miguel Unamuno. "Hard Rain" Barry Eisler. "All Men Are Brothers" Pearl S. Buck -
Go to the library and check out Masaaki Hatsumi's book "Stick Fighting" It is the best resource I know of.

How about pretending to walk away, and then turning around and sucker punching the guy? That seems like the perfect compromise to me

Buying a dobok

About 1/3 of the women in our club wear a tshirt. The rest just go with the sports bra. It's also common in summer here to see girls just working out in the sports bra. Unless you've got a 14 year old boy in the class who has never seen flesh before, it's usually not a big deal. -
Many rental cars have GPS units in case car is stolen, etc. I wouldn't suggest it.

It's an option for us... but with no A/C the last thing I need is another layer! -
I think he would taste like chicken.

hmm, do they still incorporate the nunchaku?

http://sayoc.com/ http://www.jamesakeating.com/ is another good one. You might also find Indonesian arts, such as silat, pekiti-tersia, etc to be up your alley. Since you are in NOVA, you might see if Amante Marinas still teaches his style of pananandata. Last time I heard, I think he was in Fredericksburg, but he is really a living legend, and from our correspondence, a very nice man. Technically, all FMA styles are knife oriented, whether they use rattan sticks or fake knives. The motions transfer from empty hand usage up to machetes

Now mine does fall open a lot, but it doesn't come untied. Luckily, as a man, it is seen as rugged and macho. Cuz girls love seeing pale sweaty chests.... YEAH! Wait. No. -
Stolen is a bit of a strong word, but I'm glad to see it thrown at the Japanese instead of the Koreans for once

What is the best Martial Art for you and why?
tommarker replied to Spielwurfel's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Just curious Beka... What self-defense art do you suggest to someone who is around 40-50 and can't outrun a 18 year old male in the prime of his life, or worse, is charged with protecting a small child who also cannot run? -
You may be able to find a rental company that will rent to an 18 year old, but they will charge MORE money, and they may not be thrilled with letting you travel across state lines, or into Canada. You could also look into using bus lines, such as Greyhound. Some bus stations are, well, nasty... but it might be cheaper in the long run, and certainly easier. Amtrak (train) might also be an option. Public transit in the US is not the priority that it is in the UK, except in the larger cities. Even then, expect an almost appaling level of service. We just love our cars too much

Monkeygirl, Great job... Now, put in your application to Ohio State, and return to your Tang Soo Do roots http://btsd.org.ohio-state.edu/ ;)

I've seen pics of CS Kim posing in front of a building with a "Dang Soo Do" logo as well. In the words of my Chinese friend who saw his name mispelled in a sports program... "I don't care how they spell my name in English"

No offense, but what kind of knot are you tying that comes undone all the time? I don't think I've ever had that problem, and I usually have a problem UNTYING them after class As for V-necks, can't help ya.. -

The nice thing about Wikipedia is that ANYONE can contribute to it. If you know some history that you want to share, you should and can easily do so. This makes Wikipedia stronger and more useful.

I might be able to get a few photos for you... just have to sift through about... 1200 photos from the weekend first! -
Spielwurfel, Your English is better than my Spanish, and far better than my Portuguese (which I can understand, but not speak.) As for your situation, it sounds very normal to me. Some people are natually very athletic, and learn quickly. Other people are very uncoordinated and it takes them many months to do the techniques. Most of us fall somewhere in between these two groups. Sometimes a teacher will give white belts a technique or concept that is more advanced than their level. They don't expect you to do it. Instead, it is more of a mental test, to see how their students react to new things. Boa sorte, meu amigo.
