When Ingredients Are So Complicated!!
neoravencroft replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is perhaps the best description of politics I've ever read. Thank you. -
Some karate styles don't even do Sanchin unfortunately. When I use to take Shorin-Ryu in my younger years, I never even heard of a Sanchin kata. Now that I take Uechi-Ryu, I understand why karateka say it's an important kata as it does indeed train all three of those traits of mind, body, and spirit.

Fortunately, this isn't just a wooden dummy. It has additional slots for addition arms for reaction drills as well as sparring drills.

So I was looking around for new MA equipment, and I came across this gem. What do you guys think? http://www.checkouttheironmaster.com/

What gloves do you spar with?
neoravencroft replied to Judodad_karateson's topic in Equipment and Gear
Interesting looking gloves, I have to say. How do they compare to normal mma Gloves? They're not that bad. It makes grabbing easy and there's enough padding where you don't hurt anyone. -

Good question. I find it challenging. Each day I go to the training hall, I have to constantly remind myself that I'm doing this style and not the other. I find it fascinating that even though the styles are different, certain aspects are the same such as balance. To me, Wing Chun is known for it's speed whereas Uechi-Ryu is known for it's resistance. Eventually my goal is to try to seam the styles together with something that I can work with on a practical level, if that makes sense. -

About a month ago, I got my yellow belt in Euchi-Ryu and got my yellow sash in Wing Chun a month after that. So yay!

Congratz! -
I have two schools that I go to. The school that teaches Wing Chun charges by a portion of the year as well as how many styles you will learn. In this case, I paid $670 for the whole year. I would get 3 classes a week at one hour a piece. The school that teaches Uechi-Ryu charges by the month, which in this case is only $105 a month for six classes a week at one hour a piece.

For any of you martial artists that live in the UK area or have experience with this brand, is this a reliable brand? I only of them through eBay.

Karate Kid Part II
neoravencroft replied to muttley's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I just like all of the movies. Personally in a MA standpoint, I liked the remake seeing as Jackie Chan knows martial arts whereas Pat Morita did not. Don't get me wrong, I still love the entire franchise for what it is, but knowing MA kinda adds credibility to the film IMHO. -

Seeing as we are on the subject of heavy bags, I've been trying to find a heavy bag for a while, but I'm kinda limited on space plus I've only found vinyl bags at most sporting goods stores. What would you guys suggest?
