  1. I'm currently 5 weeks post-op from a surgery very similar, if not the same as this. I thought I was the only one in the world I had FAI (Femoroacetabular Impingement) as well as a very large acetabular labral tear. Luckily once they got in there, the iliopsoas lengthening procedure wasn't needed, so they "just" reshaped the bone, removing the extra, and re-anchored the labrum back to the acetabulum... and here we are..
  2. I am NOT a doctor of any sort but this sounds like the SI joint region from where you're describing. I've had trouble with this area on my right side for quite a while now, the pain ended up spreading into my hip and being a completely different problem. But the point is, it started in the same area you described. I found the most luck with a sports medicine doctor. The others that I saw seemed to all jump to the same instability issue when it ended up being much much more than that. (for my personal case) I should have just went to him to begin with.... lesson learned...
  3. Those are some sweet drills - I'm definitely gonna take those to class next week seeing as I've had multiple requests for kicking help recently. (I seem to be the go to at my karate class since I have the most TKD background)
  4. I was awarded a Black Belt at 10 after training for 7 years. As someone else mentioned, the only difference in requirements was breaking (smaller boards, not different techniques) I had trained at least three times per week for my 7 years time as well as ranked nationally amongst other children my age as young as 5 years old. We obviously had to know our physical skills as well as good attitude, written reports including the history of the art as well as a more personal one and many korean terms covering body parts, counting, stances, kicks, punches, etc. There were not many young black belts in my school. I was definitely a rarity, and to this day, he still does not award a young martial artist this rank without the proper requirements deemed for his school. After 1st degree, I chose not to test again until about 15 years old for 2nd and another 4 years for 3rd. Though becoming a BB at a young age myself, I think it takes a special child to earn a black belt and I definitely agree that they are being 'given' away far to often without consideration of not only physical ability, but also mental ability. I'm currently struggling with an instructor at a different school than talked of earlier, that is pushing a 15 year old to test for his 5th degree... different story, different rant... different time...
  5. I grew up in a do jang where the instructor practiced this. Others were right that it was rarely, if ever, an adult. Usually children for misbehaving (not only in class but at home/school as well) and also for disrespecting parents. They were treated as a white belt until they were able to align their attitudes and write an apology letter to whomever the incidents concerned. Then they were allowed to receive back their belt and continue working on their level techniques. If this meant the child lost the belt for a month, and in return, was unable to test next cycle, then so be it. Ultimately, it was the martial artist's choice as to how they behaved and the consequences, good or bad, were to follow.
  6. The Fenom Kimono site is pretty cool ! I've been looking for a new Gi and am way too picky about what I want for how much I want to pay. I'm super surprised at the prices for that website (in a good way) and might actually go for one of those even though I'm not practicing BJJ. I really just wanted an all cotton white top or two to be able to dye pretty colors. All cotton black pants because they'd go with everything. But for the price of one set separately, of exactly what I want, its almost more than one of those sweet Fenoms. Any other women fit Gi suggestions ? I'm 5'0" 110lbs roughly. I don't like the shorter tournament style pants which seem to be what I keep ordering and I didn't even know it. (20 years in MA and I never knew there were different lengths for competition vs training... embarrassing..) As for Rateh, having trained in both karate cut as well TKD cut, I never had near the problems with the TKD tops being too big or bothersome as I have with the karate cuts. I honestly cannot think of a karate cut Gi top that has ever fit me "well" but, for some reason, I still prefer them and am desperate to find one that fits nicely rather than just getting a do bok top that I know will fit just fine...
