Well, first, when I had a light weight uniform, then I wanted a heavyweight one. And now when I've got one, I wanna wear the light weight uniform, 'cause it's so simple and comfortable on me. The heavyweight uniform is so heavy when I do my kata and it's so big, I'm like a little ant in it! But I like the sound it makes, when I do my kata.

I remember that in Sweden, everybody used to walk home on the street with their gi's on, lol. And I did that also. Of course, the belts were taken off, but the rest of the gi was on. Nobody looked at us like that --> , we were rather like: But they just do like that because they are so lazy after the training and they just wanna get home and relax. In Estonia, it's completely different. Nobody wears the gi outside the Dojo and if somebody does that, then it's *strange* and like: But I don't care, 'cause I used to do that in Sweden. I don't wear the belt on and I don't wear the pants either, only the top of the gi. And I have a jacket on it. I never fold my gi, 'cause after training I leave my gi on and go straight into the car and drive home. At home I have my gi on for a while and before I go to bed, I take a shower and then I put my gi somewhere on the chair (if it is dirty, then I'll put it in the shower also and wash it.

I love to fight with a long, thing, cool Samurai sword.

I have never washed my belt and I guess I won't do it either. You know the old big guys with black belts, their belts look always so old or something.. a bit white and it looks like the black colour is getting old. Actually, I think they wash their belts every day to show their cool belt and that they are the BIG masters iwith X-dan lol

I'm proud to say that in my Dojo, we practise very much Bunkai and we do it in our kata team's also. When I practised karate in Sweden, then they never taught us Bunkai, or did they??? (Well, I didn't notice)

Once, when I lived in Sweden, I wanted to start practising karate, but my father said: No way, girls don't do something like *karate*, they don't fight. I was like: Oh really? lol. But my mother said, that she supports me with this idea to start practising karate. So I started to practise. My first Sensei was a man and he was so good! He is the best Sensei I ever had. But when I came to Estonia, then I was surprised that a karate dojo named: Daigo is the best Dojo in Estonia and the instructor is a woman! WOW! Well, now she's my instructor and I'm proud that everybody respect her and that she has a great authority and honour. Hey men... you know that the founder of the kung-fu style Wing-Chun was a woman GO FEMALES!!

Well, I'm an orange belt, soon I'll get my green stripe. Actually, I should have that green stripe right now, the problem is that I was ill that day when it was grading at my Dojo. And it has happened pretty many times, one reason is that I changed karate style, second is that I moved from one country to another and third is that I was ill. What a pity...... has it ever happened to you too? So I should have a higher belt.

Does anyone know Minakami Karate Dojo in USA?
mArTiAl_GiRl replied to mArTiAl_GiRl's topic in Karate
Thank you, SaiFightsMS for the information mikelw, really??? You practise there?? WOW, that's soooo cool. 'Cause I have practised in Sweden, at MKD. And the Sensei's name there is: Per Ola Olsson. He is a very good Sensei and I use to visit his Dojo. Right now I live in Estonia and shito-ryu doesn't exist here and I practise at another karate Dojo. I really miss MKD But I have brought the style to Estonia now and even Peo (Per Ola Olsson) knows about it. I have heard, that Peo visited MKD in USA and he really liked that. So he came to Sweden and made his own MKD When I'll get a bit older, then I'll go back to MKD in Sweden and I'll probably visit it in USA too -

I'm sorry, I don't know where his Dojo is, but yes, he is pretty good at what he does. Could you tell me, what do you most practise in Shito-Ryu? Do you practise katas in some special ways or has Shito-Ryu it's own principals for example in Kumite and so on... I know myself too, but I wanna know more, because there might be something I don't know yet. -
There is an Iaido instructor in Estonia, but I'm so busy with karate, that I don't have time The boring thing with Iaido, is that there are no Iaido competitions, but in karate, we have Kata Competitions and all is going great with katas.

I would like to know in which club you all here practise

COOL -
Well, in Wado-Ryu, shuto uke is done a bit higher, but in Shito-Ryu, it is done a bit lower, and they do it as an attack into the middle of the body. When I do Shito-Ryus shuto uke, then I can just do it faster, but when I do Wado-Ryus shuto uke, then I have to do it with power, so that it can also be like an attack. That's just what I have noticed when I try this block in different styles. This Wado-Ryus shuto uke really is like Kaisho Haiwan uke, because it is an high block, but Shito-ryus is low.
-
smr, I'll try to guess what style you practise, is it Wado-Ryu? Because, in Wado-Ryu, there aren't so effective katas like in Shito-Ryu. It's difficult to do Wado-Ryu katas at the competitions.

SaiFightMS, that's cool that you have also done Hayashi-ha Shito-Ryu. My estonian instructor wants to know, what are the differences between different Shito-Ryu styles, like Tani-ha Shito-Ryu, Motobu-Ha Shito-Ryu, Hayashi-ha and so on.... Anyone knows? (I know too, but maybe you know more) -

Ok. interesting. There are too Minakami Karate Dojo's in the world, one in USA and one in Sweden, where I practised. But now I live in Estonia and that's why I'm so curious about Minakami and this style. -
Samurai Shodown is my favourite game. I love to fight with a sword, like Samurai. If anyone knows this game, try: http://samuraispirits.net there's a forum too.

I love to fight with Japanese swords, it's cool. It has always been my dream. But I have already chosen karate. And I'm glad I did it. Even though I would like to fight with a sword too.
-
At The beginning of the Kata Unshu it looks like you're holding a gun and then shooting with each hand (in the shito-ryu version) LOL.
-
It would be interesting if anyone knows it or practise Hayashi-ha Shito-ryu there

Pinan Shodan is one of my favourite katas of Pinan katas also, but I think I like Pinan Yondan more, because I also win with it.
