  1. I have finally settled on a master to train under. He offers weapons training, ChongKwonDo, Combat Hapkido and trad. Tawkwondo. If I am going to go heavy into Weapons Training, then to balance everything out, do you think it would be wise to take trad Taekwondo? The reasoning behind it is that My hands would be occupied with a weapon (from weapons training) so i would need to do something with my legs to balance everything out, thus Taekwondo. If I did Weapons Training and Combat Hapkido, then that would mean that I am focusing alot of training onto most of my upper body, with little training on the legs. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks. Nick D.
  2. Hapkido does in a way have it all... a lil bit of everything. I was reading about Combat Hapkido and about how it is different then Trad Hapkido. Combat Hapkido pretty much removed all the high kicks and showman Flashy kicks that arent useful in practical situations. Combat Hapkido is not for sport, it is a 100% no non-sense self-defense Martial Art which teaches you how to really take down someone. In reading about combat Hapkido, Grandmaster Pellegrini added a 'Complete' Ground grappling system. Is this ground system as complete as BJJ or JJ, probably not, since that is what JJ focuses on. Is it complete enough to take on other martial arts in ground grappling, I would have to assume yes. Nick D.
  3. I would like to thank the people who replied to my last question that was for me. I now have a question for my friend. My friend has a bad right knee (a lil bit of torn cartliedge and tendinitis, i think i spelled both of them wrong lol) He also has a old lower back injury. Now, please understand that he is not a cripple lol, he can run, jump, etc etc. It just starts to hurt him if he does to much of one thing. Which is why He and I both decided that TKD and traditional Hapkido probably wouldn't be for him due to the all jumping kicks and high kicks. Would Combat hapkido be better for someone who was going to be a lil less mobile and all of there kicking will take place on the ground towards the lower body? As for the combat hapkido not having any mental training, etc, my friend meditates now alot, and he plans on moving into learning some tai chi, so I think he has alot of that covered. Thanks in advance everyone, my friend is really wanting to hear some feedback from you. Nick
  4. I have two choices from 2 instructors in this area. One instructor told me that he will not train me in Hapkido unless I learn TKD first. The second instructor will teach me Hapkido now, except his form is Combat Hapkido. Could someone please tell me what the difference is in Combat Hapkido and Hapkido. I am wanting to learn a martial that will include mental training (meditation etc etc) and not just physical. Thanks in Advance. Nick
