I was watching his show recently and they had this 7 year old kid on there that was like I guess the strongest in the world for his age. Anyway they somehow go onto the subject of karate and howard stern is like "I'm a brown belt in shotkan karate" anyone here belive it? (also I felt like saying it in japanese in case your wondering.)
-
It didn't ofend, just confused me. Not fully adapted to karate culture and I though you only call those who train you sensai.
-
yes because when two people fight with no rules other than no biting or eye gouging it is absoulutly nothing like a real fight.. watch ufc 1-5 Can' you pick up a club and beat someone with it in a competition? Can you use any weapons in a competition? Do they have competitons where there are multiple attackers aginst one person? Competitions have rules I mean you stated two that would really turn around a fight. ok lets just arm both people with AK-47's to see who the better Martial artist is.. what does a weapon have to do with anything? If you loose to one person why would you be better than them at fighting multiple attackers? your argument does not apply in any way. I realize Strret fights and Ring fighting are two diffrent things, there are alot more variables but that does not mean the better fighter does not still have the advantage. nothing is exactly like A real fight but NHB/MMA competitions are the best proving ground for what works and what does not IMO. Well a street fight doesn't have rules, competition atleast has some rules.

There is a fight called google fight in which you enter two terms and see which conjures up the most results. Shotkan won in every one that I made. BTW what's sensai suposed to mean?
-
Hey do you have anything like Muay Thai vs Shotokan? I want to put it in that topic that fireka made.
-
You wanna see a shotokan fighter get absolutley screwed by a BBJ artist? BTW why do you hate korean arts?
-
Well I for one was not calling shotokan a poor art. I don't know if you were talking to someone else or not.
-
Why did you "(spits on the floor") at the mention of kenpo and american style? BTW There is a nice website I know of that wil make a fight between two serach terms. Basically it tells how many results you get for each one I'll list the results of as many styles I know aginst shotokan. (in https://www.googlefight.com terms of popularity, also shotokan got 121,000) shotokan vs. kenpo: shotokan by 30,000 shotokan vs. goju-ryu: shotkan by 92,000 shotokan vs. uechi-ryu: shotokan by 114,000 shotokan vs. shudokan: shotokan by 117,000 shotokan vs. shito-ryu: shotokan by 106,000 shotokan vs. sorin-ryu: shotkan by 107,000 shotokan vs. wado-ryu: shotokan by 104,000 shotokan vs. kyokushin: shotokan by about 89,000 shotkan vs. chito-ryu: shotokan by 119,000 ... I probably know more but I can't htink of them at the moment

*BKJ makes mental note* Don't fight grapplers with striking arts.
-
I have a hard time beliveing that fight. Find one iwth a kyokushin fighter, maybe he could actually get a hit in before the BJJ took him down.

"The art was renamed Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan in 1994, in accordance with the wishes of the Grandmaster. The name reflects the increased pure Korean influence Grandmaster Hwang Kee has introduced and shows that we are still evolving as a "living art"." -usadojo.com That's the Tang Soo Do part of the site.

I tried watching UFC once. It was a grappling match though and because I have no concept of grappling I didn't know what they were doing so It wasn't really all that entertaining.

No serioulsy I've thought of a lot of these things before but the problem is I need a diet that will fit with my schedule. Like one that dosn't involve eating at school because I just can't do that. -
They have 4 month classes. I have to wait until May. 12 to get into the adult white belt class.

BJK do you even do a martial art. Have u any experience at all other then what u read, i can appreciate everyones coments about this particular subjects however u seem to still be missing the point, This is true, think about it if u are 15 or sixteen yrs old for intance and have a lets say 3rd degree would u not let that get to ur head? this is what i mean i just find a style that is too rewarding with belts over time will diminish the proper position of a growing MA. We must also think about street effectiveness as i said before when i was fifteen i sure as hell could not atall be worthy of such rank even though ive been training 4 long time but this is not the point like i mentioned a belt really doesnt dipict a good martial artist i just was wondering why some disciplines give it away so easily. Listen its very simple if ur instructor says in ten yrs you can get ur black belt then u might slack for 9 and a half yrs then the next 6 months work ur a$$ of because u know ur gonna get that rank. Its about proper growth as a martial artist that is all and i find a dicipline that is tooo rewarding will diminish that growth Weather I study a martial art or not is besides the point so stop using that to duck out of the subject. Don't you belive the teacher who taught him should judge him? If the teacher thinks he can be a BB don't you think he should? In my dojo i'ts the organization that they belong to that make them do it, so should the organization tell them weather the student is ready to be a black belt or should the instructor who taught them have the say. BTW what age group are we talking about here? Because around here 13 year olds average 5'10"-6' and 150-200 pounds. -
VIDEO CLIPS! Woo hoo I've been looking forever for video clips.

I'm actually not talking to my teachers about it because well my school has never really been a friendly enviroment and I really don't feel like I want my teachers to know anything else besides what I do in class. We have a so-called 4 minute break but unforutnatley the halls are so packed with stupid people in there not gettin gout of your way that your always late, and we dont' have lockers either. -
I got bored so I went to watch another class there today. I noticed somethign that I hadn't before. The Dojo is extremely japanese. I saw one of the instructors who was not japanese obviously english speaking talking to a kid named daniel and he kept calling him danile-san. They counted in japanese. Greeted eachother in japanese. Practicially all of the language except the teaching was done in japanese. Is your dojo like this?
-
I haven't been doing either everyday. I mean to say every other day.

I can't sneak things into classes though. I have to sit at the front of the class because I'm hearing impaired, so the teacher woudl definatley see me.
