  1. Congratulations. You must have done something right since you skipped 9th kyu:)
  2. Thanks for the congratulation:) Feels good. And today my younger brother passed to 3rd kyu. He did well. He even corrected the examiner at one point:)
  3. Went pretty well. Got some minor corrections during the test but fixed them when mentioned. The final critique was that I had much power in the beginning of some techniques but not all of it was there at the end. Otherwise good:)
  4. I can do it for 4 seconds before I tip over backwards. What is the problem? Low flexibility in my calves?
  5. Is that how JKA generally operate? I train at a JKA dojo in Sweden. I'm 9th kyu and have sparringclasses 3 times per week with one instructor. Continous pointsparring with medium contact. The chief instructor is more kihon-oriented but usually throws in some light contact jiyu kumite without protective gear at the end of his classes. They even do kumite with slaps instead och kicks and punches in the beginnerclass. I thought JKA was the same all over the globe?
  6. Are you sure guys? You would be able to do some amazing martial arts in the lower gravity:) I myself would love to visit Mars, but not without being able to return home. Maybe if they had some infrastructure and a real society. For many years they will be living in small cylinders with 15 other people on the whole planet to get to know. And imagine how slow KF would be with the 40 minute delay.
  7. It takes 18 minutes by bus. I have to take 2 buses so ~5 of those minutes is waiting for bus nr 2. Biking might be faster so I will try that when spring arrives.
  8. It's A "small" world. I live in Malmö, 10-15 minutes To Lund by car.
  9. I pay 102$ every 4 months. For that I get six 90 minute classes per week. Unfortunately they have the class on Fridays start at the same time I quit work so I'm not able to attend Grading cost 32$ The good thing is that my job covers most of the fees. I only pay the gradings and the 14$ that are left of the fee.
  10. Well done I'm from Sweden, training with JKA
  11. Passed to 9 Kyu today. It went well. The testing for the Kihon was at a way higher speed than I'm used to from training, but I managed to keep up:) Nice with a belt that doesn't turn yellow of sweat:)
  12. Thanks guys. I'm back again. I still feel it a bit but it's much better and keeps improving. I just got back from a tough class. I did avoid being on the recieving end of punches but did everything else.
  13. Last Tuesday in Karate we were kicking on pads while a partner was holding it. When it was my turn to hold, my partner landed a kick that hit bad on one of my ribs through the pad. It's swollen. It feels a bit better between the classes but gets worse again after every class. So I'm thinking about skipping todays class and hoping that it heals until Thursday when I have my next class. It really sucks because today would be my 10th class ever and I don't want to start missing classes already. I'm still gonna go and watch though to see if we start with some new technique. Has anyone of you had a swollen rib that hurts in certain movements? How long did it take to heal? Massaging the area helps temporarily.
  14. I did the same thing too! lol. I was pleasantly surprised when I found KF. I did the same. Had tried some other forums before this. They were filled with good info but almost no activity at all anymore. Most threads were from 2008. The posts from 2013 only talked about the forum having such low activity:)
  15. Had my first class today. It was more fun than I expected even if everybody were a bit shy(me included). It wasnt very hard cardio/strength but I'm sure that was to not scare the customers away the first day since I have seen them go hard with the students earlier. I'm returning:)
  16. Thanks
  17. I just paid a membership in an MA Club in my city. Beginners class of Shotokan Karate. I'm a 26 year old guy from Sweden. I have been reading up on the subject a couple of weeks but know nothing more of Karate than what I have read the latest weeks. Wish me luck:)
