Sure a certain body can help a person be better at one style over another just as certain animals are adapted to certain lifestyles. I believe that even though certain body types help, what really counts is the determination of the person who is in the battle.
People have their own preference in style. Some find secureity in modern Self defense while others find a sense of accomplishment and meaning in Traditional styles. I personally like traditional styles. Karate and Hapkido have worked good for me so far.
I personally like shotokan and Hapkido. Hapkido has the best of both worlds, kicking and punches from TKD, and some variations of locks and throws seen in grappling techniques found in Akido. Then there is Shotokan Karate which I like because of its emphasis on striking.
I believe that a style needs both speed and power. Speed allows for certain moves to be preformed with out being easily countered, and power gives the blow that cand help you come one step closer to defeating and opponent.
I agree, Hapkido is a pretty solid and complete style. If I really wanted to further my knowledge of martial arts, I would go with something involving more striking like Shotokan, or then again if I wanted more kicking there is always TaeKwondo. I am personally going for Hapkido and Shotokan.
Hapkido is more offensive than akido because it borrows some of the best kicks and punches from taekwondo, also since it is not a competition sport, normally illegal movements can be used like low kicks and the use of elbows and knees. This is how my class is taught. Akido is supposedly a more defensive style requiring the use of more locks and grappling. But I am not an Akido student so I don't know if the info that has been passed down to me is truely factual.
Yeah I was thinking about Hapkido too, but then again I was also going to join Shotokan Karate. I heard that Hapkido has the best of punches and kicks of taekwondo and some forms of grappling that are similar to Akido, is this all true?
Angus is right, Hapkido is a Korean Art of self Defense. It is said to share the best kicks and punches of TaeKwonDo with various forms of grappling techniques similar to those of Akido. But then again I can be wrong. If I am, "sorry, my bad"
Jet Li is awsome!!! Who can forget the part in Romeo Must Die when he plays football and kicks the crap out of the other guys at their own game!!!! But then again Jackie Chan kicks too. He's hilarious also Shanghi Noon & Knights rule!!
I'm new to the martial arts scene and now I am trying to find a suitable style for myself, can you guys help me? . I'm trying to find a style that would suit my physical abilities. I am a short stocky guy, and one that isn't very flexible, but I'm working on that . I also play football. I'm trying to find something that I can practice. there are a couple of places down here in Socal offering lessons. There is Shotokan Karate, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, and a cople of other ones. For those that can help me please leave some advise. For others, go ahead and debate the pros and cons of each style; similarities and differences between each type can help too. .So can you experienced guys out there give some help to a potential newcomer to martial arts?
