What martial art do YOU prefer?
shanny_kimura replied to shanny_kimura's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Goodness, do you even sleep? I see you're a Kyokushin black belt. Who did you study under? Some good Kyokushin karateka in Canada. Yes I do. And Sensei Ivany. He is not with us anymore he is in Hong Kong now he got transferred, he is a school teacher. He made me work extra hard and made me train more so I would get my BB exam quicker. Miss him a lot -
What martial art do YOU prefer?

Between the 10 arts I train in, I'd have to say its my Jiu-Jitsu game that's the most deadly & impressive. -
Congrats ! And it all depends what you're looking for. Judo would help the wrestling quite a bit. There is also Ne-Waza (ground fighting) in Judo also. So you would get great knowledge that would only help the wrestling along with some ground fighting techniques. BJJ on the other hand would be great too. BJJ would be good if you're in a vulnerable position in wrestling and somehow manage to sweep or escape your opponent. Judo and BJJ ground game is much different. Judo is more about pinning your opponent into a dominate position while BJJ would be a lot of techniques off your back and so on. You're getting the best of both worlds either way ! Good luck with the Wresling bud !

sparring question
shanny_kimura replied to localman's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
We spar with only head, shin, & arm pads. When we step (spar at 50% NO contact just shadow TKD) we don't use anything. -
Who Are Your Martial Art Heroes?
shanny_kimura replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Michael Jai White, Jean Claude Van Damme, Helio Gracie, & Mas Oyama. -
What martial do you prefer? Which art would you use/like to use in a self- Defense altercation? A grappling art or a straight up stand up art? I just want to hear different opinions from all you great artists out there In MY personal opinion I would use Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in a street self-Defense and TaeKwonDo if there would be more then 1 attacker I used a mixture of TaeKwonDo & Judo against 4 attackers that one and only time I got jumped. Not one scratch was on me

I currently hold 6 black belts and 1 brown belt. I am a 1st Dan black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, ITF TaeKwonDo, Kyokushin Karate, Shotokan Karate. 2nd Dan black belt in Kodokan Judo, & 4th Dan in Kenpo Karate along with my brown belt in Yoshinkan Aikido. Non ranks art I train and teach are Wrestling, Boxing, & Muay-Thai. If someone would ask me I wouldn't just tell them all of my rankings. I would tell them the ranks I am the most proud to accomplish and that is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu & Kyokushinkai. I am proud of all of my accomplishments but those arts I struggled to master them.

Haha, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a bit different then BJJ but take roughly the same amount of time in the belt system. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu focuses on self-Defense techniques. BJJ is more of "sport Jiu-Jitsu" GJJ focuses on that too. Same techniques and fundamentals as BJJ but their is a bit more techniques added to the curriculum such as self Defense, weapon Defense. Etc. good luck on your journey. Here is my email if you have any questions or concerns. ---- shannalizermma@hotmail.com

A good martial artist
shanny_kimura replied to hiddendragon98's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Confidence, wisdom, respect for yourself as well as others, courage, faith, discipline, pride, & most of all hard work. Osssuuuu -
I train because I'm in love with martial arts. I train in 10 different arts 7 times a day. Non stop for the whole day lol. It's also a good way to stay fit, in shape. To respect yourself as well as others. Also for self-Defense. Key word is Defense ! It's self-Defense guys, not self-offence. Use it when called upon. Safe training everyone osssuuu

See. This type of question is hard to answer. It all depends on how you flow with the art. How often you train a week. What are the hours you put in. If you train into a school that only trains on Tuesdays & Thursdays for example it'll take you longer than it should. But if you train 4 or 5 times a week at just 1 hour each session even, there would be lots more time taken off reaching your blue belt. But extra technical training wouldnt hurt so training more would help your game a lot also. I train BJJ 6 times a week twice a day. And it took me 1.5 years to get my blue belt. Hope this helps !
