do guys like chicks that a martial artists?
FlailingLimbs replied to IAMA_chick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have the hots for this girl that did k-1 in Japan. Man, I love it when she beats on me. Ok ok, I know what I am, a masochist... -
VIETNAMESE! that's it! not Taiwanese! I know someone named Cuong (KOO-NG)...so his name is "hard" huh? interesting.
-
Hmm.. this aspect of combat is perhaps what interests me in my post about the shotokan art, or the fight. M'eh, I still have much to learn.
-
Hey, at least you didn't spend 5 minutes kicking a board halfassed like some of the people in my shito-ryu class. The instructor actually got pissed. It took repeated weakening of this board for the woman and her daughter to get through it. ugghhh...
-
Streetfighters... hmm.. In my shito class there's this guy who just started, and he learned to fight the hard way. When I'm sparring with him, he's unpredictable. If it werent for the fact that he was using control, I'd have been a greasy little **** stain on the ground. That man could so EASILY kick my arse in a real fight. He has (alon w/ his bro), on several times, however, flailed his legs too much and got tea-bagged by me. Always wear a cup is what the instructer says....

Lucid Martial arts and the Lucid Dojo
FlailingLimbs replied to Lucidartist's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Lucid dreams...I haven't had one in a long time, not since I was prepubescent. The most recent one happened in my grade 12 english class while we were reading "Othello". I entered a sleep , then a dream, which finally became "half" lucid. I knew I was dreaming, and I knew I wanted to get some sparring in. I did a backfist with my right hand in the dream, and in the class I accidently hurled my book clear across the room. I woke up only after my teacher screamed out something about Iago, and noticed my book sailing in the air as it almost pegged a girl sitting in the line of fire. Anyways, thats my experience with dreams and martial arts Damn man, that must've been some good shi- -
Do chicks dig guys who know karate?
FlailingLimbs replied to BKJ1216's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
HAHAHAHA! DAMN! this has to have been the funniest thread I've ever read on KF! Hmm...I haven't really had any experience with the strange alien race known as "wo-men", but I do rekon a few of them thinking that it was "cool" that I do MA. Some seem to enjoy the physique (even if some of us MA don't have a six pack). I know there's this one Japanese girl who *I'm* attracted to. She's a little bit better skilled than me and routinely kicks my arse... now, ladies, maybe I'm a defect, but that really turns my crank. Any other male MA get that feeling? -
My dojo probably has simmilar rules. My senior told me on saturday some drunk punk saw his dojo jacket, came up to him, and said "I bet I could knock you out in one hit" ..To which he simply stated "Ok, what is that going to prove? and what happens if you don't?" The drunk left him alone.

yeah, next to Okuyama karate, I've never even HEARD of this style. It sounds Taiwanese.

...I want to be feared and respected!...I want to boast and brag on a board FILLED to the FREAKIN' BRIM with people who could quite likely kick my arse in no time flat! obviously, I'm being sarcastic. hahaha! you and me both. I always hear about people ralfing beforehand, but I've never been THAT nervous. (ok I did spew once before a test, but that was the hangover!) When I wait to be tested, I'm all vcool and everything, then when they call my name, it's an instant "ohholycrap" moment for me.

I'm having a bit of a problem, and this being a karate message board, I'd hope to see what you all have to say. I'm feeling conflicted between learning HOW to fight, and the actual practice of shotokan. I feel like I'm not learning anything about actual fighting in shotokan, and there is another side of me that wants to train hard in it as the art. I'm a 3rd kyu and I haven't been training as much as I should (as my final year in high school seems to be getting in the way) Has anyone ever felt like this?
-
I recieved my 3rd kyu a few months ago, with an A grade, I've been proud of myself ever since. I really worked hard on tekki shodan. ...Although I'm starting to get "mushy" with my technique. I haven't been able to train as much as I used to. I'm going to start training hard again, everyday.

what's everyones favourite move?
FlailingLimbs replied to kickbuttnat's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
damn, I have a few favorite techniques... Certain armbars (from jiujutsu), the reverse punch (from karate), a jumping spinning axe kick (from some style I have never heard of), and a jumping spinning double roundhouse (from TKD)....and an aerial takedoen from jiujutsu. -
.....Damn, I'm going to get started on those 10,000 reps. ...right after I finish this bag of potato chips, a shower, Everybody Loves Raymond...
-
Hahaha, maybe I should take up that advice. I've been *trying* to get into fights with people my size/age/shape/etc, just for the cause of getting *actual* fighting experience. It's not like I pick a fight with just anyone, though. The reason why I've been doing this is because there are three things that are very different. There's the street, the "dojo", and then there are tournaments. All are different. Anyhoo, good advice. I shouldn't do that, it's stupid.

Fire Ka, I can understand your dislike of korean arts. I have had experiences as well, and do not wish to discuss them. I think the guy who did the mcdojo/bullshido.com website has as well, selling t-shirts that have the slogan "taekwondont". Please people, I ain't saying "TKD SUKS KARATE AND BJJ ROOLS YOU (whatever)", I'm just explaining that many have had bad experiences with Korean systems, and even Japanese/American systems as well.

Heya! first time starting a new topic, so here it goes. I have a hard time in karate (this problem gets to a point where karate style doesn't even matter anymore) with sweeps. I know I tend to leave my legs wide, exposing me lucky charms, and narrow front-wise. What I'd like to know is how do I avoid/defend against sweeps to my legs, and how do I successfully perform one?

I hate cheap hits!!
FlailingLimbs replied to FunkGndm88's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
ahhh blooooooody hell! theres so many of us manitobans on these forums! Dober, do you go to international martial arts in winnipeg? -
That tournament scenario thing scares me. I'm a brown belt in shotokan, a white belt in shito, and because of my background in shotokan, I'm well ahead of most of the students in shito (with the exception of this one girl who routinely kicks my arse up and down the room). The thing is, I've never really had much contact sparring until I started sparring with this girl. Now my shito instructor wants us to enter a tournament this april. I'm freaked out.
-
Ach, man I practice a lot of things... I primarily do Shotokan/kyokai karate. Secondly, I do Shito-ryu. On hiatus: Jiujitsu. up next: Brazilian Jiujitsu. I don't think I'll ever quit shotokan, unless I'm seriously injured. Or I get screwed over somehow. They've got me like flies to $%^&. I'm going poor! I can't afford to be doing all this!

I would like to know in which club you all here practise
FlailingLimbs replied to mArTiAl_GiRl's topic in Karate
Haha! Andrew Green? I'm familiar with your program. I think one of my peers may train under you, although I'm not certain. -
Holy craps! Mark Groenewold! I've heard of your website after reading through Rob Redmonds 24fightingchickens.com! I have to say, reading about your experiences and teaching karate in Japan have been really informative!

FlailingLimbs replied to mArTiAl_GiRl's topic in Karate
I'm a member of the local JKA club, and a shito student in the local community centre. Osu? martial chick, go to https://www.24fightingchickens.com and go to the shotokan thingy, and look for the "mu" section, there you will find a lot of information about "osu".... I try not to say it anymore if I can. -
I personally think this little one has seen way too freaking many martial arts movies...no...wait.... I mean those crappy 80's cliche ninja cheese movies... those aren't even proper MA movies... ..anyways, I'm pretty sure this one hasn't really ever done a MA, damn I hate these types....
