  1. A_Mind your second explaination makes more sense. your first one kinda of came off as "I can finish a fight in the first strike." which in my experience has never happened.
  2. It is very very easy to develope incredibly bad habits in point sparring. I am not particularly a fan of it. My sensei told me to enter in a point sparring tourny. I have been is a few street fights and i will tell you this - they are absoluely nothing like point sparring. Point sparring is a game. you have to think of it as such. I pressed one of my instructors as to what the point to point sparring was and he informed me thatit to get people used to getting the first strike and blocking and countering... Point sparring has its merits - but i am not particularly fond of it.
  3. Syn, I think you missed my point. Disrespecting is not the same as disagreeing. When I say disrespect i mean to act - verbally or physically with bad intent or in a maliciuos manner. Not that they don't agree with my ideals or way of life, hell my sister doesn't agree with 90% of my tenents and opinons. If a person is expressing their view and why they feel I am wrong - that is not disrespect. It is an expression of their opinion. However if that same person let loose a diatribe of my 'ill ' ways or would not allow for a retort than that is disrespectful.
  4. Here is a link to an article of one person's opinion of Jutsu v. Do. It a good read. http://www.shotokankata.com/Articles/Jutsu.htm
  5. Actually, you are correct karate_woman, I did. I just never realized that there is a style taught as just karate, not as a say Kempo Karate...
  6. Thanks. You learn something knew everyday! I always looked at karate as a kind of Classification rather than a particluar style. Seeing karate as encompassing, Kempo, Shotokan, Goju, Kyokushin, etc. etc.
  7. Does anyone really think a person who is a 6th Dan in Karate-Do (which seems real fishy - what exactlky is "Karate-Do") and a 7th degree Master of TKD would ever actually perform such a deplorable act as sell a Dan Certificate. I HIGHLY doubt this guy can back up his credentials. And seeing as he sells dan certfificates I would be speculative about any certificate he produces.

    Weapons

They compliment each other. You need to know both. I wouldn't say one is better than the other but, both are necessary.
  9. No problem. Here is another site for good workouts: http://www.trainforstrength.com/workouts.shtml An exercise I absolutely love is the Atlas Chair Dip: http://www.charlesatlas.com/atlas_free_workout.html (Notice the fingers are pointed out, not foward) Enjoy!
  10. Thanks to all of you who wished me congrats - after nearly 2 weeks - married life is bliss... Back on the subject, You should not fight angry. You should however fight hard and fight nasty. You actually allow someone to make you angry - you let them control you, your emotions.
  11. I used the Navy SEAL program when I started it was 3 sets of 15. I varied off from the program and after 4 months i was doing 6 sets of 50. The program is extremely effective. I started after failed attempts at returning to the gym - I was barely benching 205 when I started at 3 sets of 15. when i was up to 6 sets of 50 I wanted to see how much, if any, my bench press had changed and I did 255lbs for 3 reps. with relative ease. I also weigh about 200lbs. at the time i started i was about 210. So I was/am pushing a lot of weight. http://www.thesealteams.com/SEAL_workouts/ scroll past the "Physical Fitness Standards" section and the work out is posted.
  12. Th ecreatine itself probably didn't bulk you up.. the extra reps did. But its feels good to get results.
  13. Who knows - I have lways been told it means fist law and only seen it translated as such. Either way I think kenpo is a very effective art - its techniques are very short and to the point.
  14. It depends on the sit. - if i cannot talk my way out of it, if i can't get out of it - if i am cornered - i will fight - regardless of how many or their level of fighting skill. I do not understand your refernce to not being phyiscally able to do something to someone - please clarify. I am staunchly honor guided. I have had my ass handed to me by both fighting someone who was a better fighter than me and (on a sperate occasion) by a group of people. I don't see how you are relating honor to these situations. I agree with you 100%. However since I hold firmly to the belief there are NO RULES IN A FIGHT - a fight can not be unfair. To your example about not using a knife in your pocket against an assailant who does not possess a weapon himself - that is not a question of honor (IMO) it's a question of how far you will go to ensure you WILL NOT LOSE (in a mugging situation the mugger is most likely a very desperate person who feels they have nothing to lose - exterme counter-measures are necessary). In a fight - you take every advantage you can to ensure you win. You do not sacrifice honor in doing this. On a lighter note - I am leaving for my honeymoon so I will not be posting for a while - I look forward to continuing this... (Please pardon any miss-spellings - I am rushing through this.)
  15. Kempo actually translates into "Fist Law" or "Law of the Fist"
  16. You and I have very different opinions of what honor is. I would never participate if a group of my "Friends" jumped some kid. I also would never allow anyone to hit me or disprespect me, my family or what i stand for. And keep in mind there are ways other than physica; fighting to defend your honor. Honor= Respect (for all others), Dignity (in yourself), Honesty (always), Self Discipline. Notice I did not say Pride - There is a reason pride is one of the seven deadly sins. I repeat my statement from earlier in the posts - I would not justify verbal barbs with a responce, to a point (unitl i felt my honor had been violated) and I would never, never let someone get away with striking me. So: I agree (to a point) - The Honorable thing to do is to stand up and fight for your diginity - be it physical or otherwise. The unhonorable thing to have someone else do it.
  17. neverr let anyone hit you without recourse! as far as words - they are just that words...
  18. $60/month for kempo There is a bjj school that charges $150 per month for two classes a week and $225 for unlimited. The Renzo Gracie Academy is something like $150/month
  19. Revivng an old thread here but I got an idea. It's so obvious that I didn't see it. Ask your Instructor if there is anyway you can reduce the cost by working at the school... be it coming early before classes and cleaning or helping with filing and admin work. Maybe there is away that you can work at the school and instead of getting paid - have the cost of classes reduced.... Just an idea. Ofcourse, if this has already been said completely disregard.
  20. It for people who are looking for an extra boost. To do a few more reps. You are born with everything you need. Just eat right and work hard. Save your money and buy your mom somethhing nice this mother's day. I agree with Blue. When I was younger (18) I used creatine and it worked. But was it worth the money - IMO no. I'd rather mentally push myself harder than take some powder mixed with my grape juice (How I took it.) Hard Work Builds Charatcer.
  21. You have to register, takes only 3 seconds, and is completely worth it. make sure you follow the Terry Tate Story link. You will need sound. http://terrytate.reebok.com/
  22. you seem to be giving it a near perfect rating of 4 out of 5 then saying you need an open mind or are glad you didn't pay full price.... Which is it? If I am giving a movie 4 out of 5 I would have more good things to say about it then bad. I think they do a good job of showing that the movie is not based on realistic MAs in the trailers on TV.
  23. Rocky started out great! But the last few kind of ruined it all. I've heard Raging Bull was excellent but have yet to see it. Bull Durham was also a good Baseball flick as was 8 men out.
  24. The road to perdition is paved with good intentions. I'd rather have enemies and stand for something than have eveyrone as my friend and stand for nothing.
