Who can realy fight...?
Stold replied to yireses's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Those are all well known NHB fighters, Yireses. Although i don't think I'd put chuck norris on the list of people that could throw down. Especially against Bas, Chuck or Tito. -
I like the uniforms, but I prefer to not use one, especially when practicing WC. Just no shirt with black pants.

Royce Gracie at the street?
Stold replied to Anzie's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You got to think though, he's only lost to professional fighters. People that fight for a living, now. Most people on the street would get creamed by ANY professional fighter. Getting beat up on the street and getting shot/stabbed on the street are pretty different. -
Another "what would you do" question

Flop around like a fish while watching for arm bars and triangles until I can unlock his legs. -
Another "what would you do" question
Stold replied to TJS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would pull my stilleto and stab him multiple times in the back of the thigh and buttocks until he released guard and I could get away. Unarmed I would just do my standard anti-guard procedure. -
On the dancefloor, how would you handle this situation?

I would have pulled my stilleto and stabbed him in the throat. ... what? -
Boxing Speed
Stold replied to craknek's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
The idea is that the softer you hit, the more skilled you have to be to bring your opponent down. On the other hand the harder you hit the more you can afford flaws in your technique. It sort of make sense, but not always true, especially when it comes to boxers. They all hit frickin hard, not matter how big they are. -
Tell your father to tell his Sifu to put up or shut up. This is why the old school rules should come back into play. If you think your art or school is better, you prove it. Or don't talk smack.

Hello? Does Tank Abbot ring a bell? Benches 615 lbs. And no, he doesn't just bullrush and kill everybody.

Lucid Martial arts and the Lucid Dojo

You've done that too, Flailing? I can't say I have ever backfisted a book across the room, but I have kicked the desk in front of me over. Must be something with muscle memory. And no, the shi- sucks! That was the only time it was ever good. -
Wow...If you ask me you did really good if TKD was all the real training you had(Unless you really took those instructional vids and worked hard.) Maybe you're one of those people with the natural ability to fight. Just good at hurting people.

Wing Chun Vs. Boxing
Stold replied to Stold's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Interesting analogy, but a better one would be a Lancer Evolution VIII and a Ferrari. They both have different strengths and weaknesses. Sure the ferrari is faster, but a Lan Evo will take the hairpin turns much better. TKD snap kicks? Since when are all TKD roundhouses snap kicks? I quit instructing TKD about two year ago, but if I remember correctly, the only reason you would snap the kick back is if you foresaw a grab, or if you were using the kick in a tournament style jab. TKD kicks penetrate just like every other kick, only they strike with the instep and the ankle is kept limp.( As a matter of fact, in WTF sparring, your kick really has to move the opponent at least a little bit for you to score a point) And I have seen him throw a high kicks to the head like that(That's really all they are good for IMO, unless you have a clear shot on the knee. Muay Thai kicks are much better for striking the nerve cluster along the side of the thigh.) -

No, here's what you're saying: "Nobody uses WC and everyone uses boxing so it's obviously better, even though I have no experience with it." I didn't say you were bashing, but you lept to try prove that boxing was better than WC. Bas has used TKD in a lot of his fights. Watch some of the higher kicks. -

Then you should have said that instead of mindlessly listing off a bunch of fighters that have at one time trained in boxing. Um, yes, he does. It is a good analogy. I trained in TKD beforehand and have used it to win a fight. Is that a shock? Why do you keep bringing this up and trying to turn this into a BOXING IS BETTER THAN WC debate, because it really isn't. WC does not have the reputation as an effective art and there is a slim chance than an NHB practitioner is going to waste his time training in it. If he were to seek training, there is a 99% chance that he would fall on a dojo that does not practice realisticly with free sparring. I honestly believe that WC would make an excellent addition to someones arsenal. Do you believe there is a pure boxer that could win against todays NHB fighters? Um, no, he would get murdered. Yes, and thats a good reason to dismiss it as useless I guess. Smell the sarcasm? Maybe you should try WC, learn some of it before you dismiss it as useless, as it has quite a lot to offer that boxing does not.I have trained extensively at both, my father actually wanted me to drop out of highschool to train boxing full time. I can argue with success all I want. -
Wing Chun Vs. Boxing

Who said anything about the UFC or professional NHB fighters? Just because some successful NHB practitioners trained in boxing makes it great? Hell Bas trained in Tae Kwon Do. Wing Chun can (and has, for me anyways) beat boxers. I only saw two WC practitioners fight in the old UFC...One moved like a robot and basically sat there as the wrestler shot on him, the other one you couldn't even tell practiced WC(it's like he had no sense of where the hell his center line was, although he did at least try and keep squared.) As far as I am concerned, I've never seen a decent fighter using WC in any NHB match. Besides, they'd have to know a lot more than WC if they expect to win against a fighter trained in all ranges. -

Hm, I've had plenty of success against boxers recently. I mean, no, I've never fought Tapia, but then again I'm no Boztepe. Of course I'd lose in a ring wearing those goofy gloves while trying to punch WC style. But with NHB gloves I don't have much trouble. Boxers and WC stylists fight at different ranges. For me it's all about protecting myself until i can step inside. -
Boxing gloves are there to protect the fighters nearly as much as your hands. I haven't boxed in a while, but if I recalll correctly 16 oz gloves are only used in amateur fights. How much do they change the fight? Very very much. Grabbing and open handed techniques are pretty much out of the question. As you stated, lots more emphasis on hard rather than smart hitting. Some fighters tend to hold their hands closer to their face to pillow/block the shots. Early 1900's boxing looked quite a bit different.

Lucid Martial arts and the Lucid Dojo

Reminds of of an encounter I had with a drug called Salvia. It's completely legal in the US and purchasable online. It's only illegal in australia. Basically, you smoke a bowl full and it flips the dream switch on--WHILE YOU'RE STILL AWAKE. This can be very, very scary. Anyways, on to the point. I think it was my 3rd time doing it and my friends were playing DBZ: Budokai in the background. I think you know where this is going. I was flying, shooting ki, and trading punches with vegeta for about 5 minutes until the stuff wore off. Definately the coolest experience I ever had with the stuff--It's normally very scary. -
You are there to train, not to make with the lovey lovey flirty flirty crap. If you don't flirt with the girl, and turn down her first few flirt attempts, chances are you won't hit it off. Unless it really IS meant to be.

This is hilarious. ^____^ I trim my leg hair because, well, it's long. Inch long leg hair gets in the way of a lot of things, so I trim it to about a centimeter. I don't know how it is where you guys live, but where I'm at, a girl will usually laugh at a guy with silky smooth legs. They say it just feels wrong.
