colour of belt system???? quick anyone??
Dober replied to babygrew26's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
No one has mentioned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu yet. kids, 15 and under white yellow orange green adults, 16 and over white blue purple brown black restrictions -you must be at least 16 to hold a blue belt. this rule is SOMETIMES violated in special cases, but it's NEVER given to anyone younger than 15 -you must be at least 18 to hold a black belt. no exceptions degrees of black belts unlike color promotions, degrees of black belts are NOT awarded on merit; if someone is continuously training (ie hasnt quit), one degree is added every three years. it is therefore theoretically possible to have a 6th degree black belt to be better than a 7th. once 10 degrees has been reached, you never advance further-- 10th degree black belt is the highest rank. when one reaches the 9th degree black belt level, the belt itself is no longer solid black, it alternates between red and black (VERY cool hehehe http://www.pedrosauer.com/images/relson-sem2.jpg ). the degrees are still kept at 10th degree, the belt is now solid red. the degrees are still kept. http://www.maxercise.com/images/gallery/Max07.jpg quick note: ive heard that carlson gracie will award a green to an adult in between white and blue, but im not sure source : http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39322&highlight=BJJ+belt+system -

Helio Grace (1913 to Current) - founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. ---------------------------------------------- One young but skilled master of a number of jiu-jitsu styles, Jigoro Kano, founded his own ryu and created the martial art Judo (aka Kano-ryu jiu-jitsu) in the 1880's. One of Kano's primary insights was to include full-power practice against resisting, competent opponents, rather than solely rely on the partner practice that was much more common at the time. One of Kano's students was Mitsuo Maeda, who was also known as Count Koma ("Count of Combat"). Maeda emigrated to Brazil in 1914. He was helped a great deal by the Brazilian politician Gastão Gracie, whose father George Gracie had emigrated to Brazil himself from Scotland. In gratitude for the assistance, Maeda taught jiu-jitsu to Gastao's son Carlos Gracie. Carlos in turn taught his brothers Osvaldo, Gastão Jr., Jorge, and Helio. From my head : Helio and his brothers further refined what they had learnt in brutal street and ring fights. Helio is now 88 years old and is still an active participant in the sport. He is my fighting legend. http://www.gracieacademy.com/images/family/helio2.jpg http://www.joediamondkarate.com/_borders/helio.jpg -

Hmm my first submission that I feel was really... "real"... A guy my same weight, has about month of training on me was just all over the place jumping, standing, whatever. I caught him in a super tight shoulder stand arm bar. -
