  1. ...BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! lol.....
  2. yes thats the thing op said that the instructors, werent just extremely overweight but they also had terrible balance and sloopy tecnhique,so he should just get out of there its not worth training with such instructors, they problent are even decent athletes
  3. sumo wrestlers also eat at a HUGE caloric surplus to get that fat but yeah, still trough, whe dont see that much great karatecas, muay thai figthers e.t.c,who are fat,not saying they dont exist all i am saying is a instructor should be a role model, and by being extremely overweight,98% the times not because of a health problem, isnt a good thing hehehe, osu
  4. kyokushin all the way there is no fear in this dojo!
  5. i am sorry, but unless you have some medical problems(some serious problems that will TRULY stop you from losing weight),thats just a horrible horrible excuse thats not how the human body works,it doesnt matter what your body tipe is UNLESS you have serious health problems, you will lose weight if you do it right, and saying otherwise is just insane so are you telling me that if you go to a extremely poor area in africa live there for a year eating 600 calories everyday you wont lose weight, because of your genetics? camon...... i am not trying to be offensive, but the whole genetic things,is used a litle bit to much, but dont take my word for it,go to bodybuilding.com,and have the same argument, some guys that have a huge ammount of knoweldge about dieting(a LOT more then 98% of all nutricionists out there),and they will tell you whats up.... cheers
  6. that sucks hum,but i think most of this extremely overweight karate teachers, with horrible balance for the most time are problably not that good(how many good muay thai instructors are fat?very few...) it just smeels mcdojo for me,you should always be very careful when picking your teachers, and if he is a extremely(mordbly) obese person,it its never a good sign my current karate teacher,is a litle chubby, but his technique is really good(he made a neck throw with perfec beatufil technique),so hes a pretty good teacher even too,he has a high bodyfat percentage about the weight problems, most people dont realize one simple thing, its not exactly what you eat,it ALL comes down to calories, believe me when i say this if you are overweight, and dont suffer from any health problems, that makes you impossible to lose weight, all you need to do is to be in a caloric deficit to lose weight, nothing else,so lets say if i needed 2000 calories to mantain my weight,if i eat around 1400 calories,i WOULD lose weight,if i keep at it for a serious ammount of time i would lose even more weight, unless you are some sort of medical fenomen you will lose weight if you eat at a caloric deficit, there is no way in hell if someone that needs 2000 calories per day to maintain his weight, and eats around 1100 for a certain ammount of time, that person wouldnt lose weight!its just pure science if you want more information, you can just go to bodybuilding.com,they are experts in dieting, and you will lose weight if you follow the right instructions low carb/keto diets, are also really effective also mas oyama, wasnt really that fat,he was still a warrior no matter what,he is trully a true martial artist osu!
  7. they are extremly overweight? run like hell your instructor can be fat, there are some decent fat martial artists(not many),but if he is morbdly obese and look terrible showing the movements just get out of there, and get a better instructor think about it this way,if they are that fat it problably means they dont have that much dycpline and dont take that seriously, how many great karatecas were fat?i dont remenber one they are suppost to be a "role" model, someone you can admire, not someone that strugles to breath when they runhalf a mile
  8. haha, thanks i have noticed that the blocks are usually done with more power, and the condition is tougher, even too its the same teacher,it seems they go harder in the training and yeah, didnt mas oyama call goju ryu guys ballerinas?lol,i heard that somwhere i doubt its true trough and yeah for shure,i am more into harder styles of karate, but it seems that karate is one art that will take a really long time to learn(to use it in a effective way in a real scenario),so i should get going, that doesnt mean i will stop practise some basic boxing combos in the bag trough
  9. i apreciate the answer, but you are the second person to give me that link and i had found about it before, but no,around my area there is nothing my only option is to wait when i am out of this house(wich will take more then 5 years most likely),and when i am making my own money,i can start doing kyokushin until there,i will train hard in goju ryu,and i hope i will made it too at least a blue belt, even too the belts in this place are very hard to attain unless you are a kid(some 14 year old dude, only got to green belt in about 3-4 years of training) i enjoy the fact that i will train hard, since it his very personnal, and the intensity is a result of your personnal discypline in the training but never the less,i will train on my own, practise tehcniques in the pads and bags
  10. those push ups bars usually arent really that great, doing a regular push up touching the ground with your chest, going really low, waybe even hitting failure,is the way to go for top condition and i dont understand how does finger tip push ups condition your forearms,i do those too,and they are good for your knuckles, but how do they hit your forearms?
  11. for shure, good advise, when i think about it,i used to be able to kick with a decent ammount of force before, but when i tried to do it slowly,it was eye opening but i dont think head kicks are whe worst strike you could use, even in a real fight, its used in combat sports like k1,mma,full contact karate e.t.c,and kyokushin guys seem to master this kick
  12. yeah i had a time, when i did like 400 push ups in one training section knuckle push ups are good too,but i will mostly be focusing on lifting weigths, since whe already do push ups 2x a week,i will just stick to that and train chest with weights,i really have to sort something out but yeah,my aim is to big and strong, even too i do know and accept the fact that having a certain ammount of muscle mass, can harm you in some habilities, but its ok with me but yeah, you know i am thinking about creating a striking place in my grandmother house, whe have a lot of space there, and i will create some homemade pads, some ones to focus on low kicks, other in head strikes, and others in strikes to the torso,it will take a lot of work thats for shure, but it will be worth it so yeah man, lifting weights+goju ryu 2x/week+training by myself i wont focus a lot on cardio trough since whe already do it in class, and i will always push myself to a certain limit when hes training me, enough about me,how about you? how is your typical kyokushin class like? how much do you spar?what techniques have you learned, and wich one do you master the best? and is it correct that kyokushin is pretty much -a lot of body punches(punches to the torso) -lots of powerfull kicks, like low kicks, round kicks to the head and torso, front kicks and some unorthodox kicks, like spinning kicks and axe kicks and such? -all of this+ some other strikes like knee strikes, elbows e.t.c? anyway i hope you are very sucefful in kyokushin osu!
  13. I teach my TKD students that kicking high (to the head) is not practical nor is it smart to expose yourself in such a manner during a fight. We practice high kicking on pads/bags to develop balance, flexibility, and strength which complements all striking & kicking. I also think there is a place for both styles of sparring (point or full contact) as each develops different aspects of power and control that just kicking pads does not. yeah man,you seem like a good teacher to bad there still his tons of mcdojos around, because you know, you never know when you will need to throw a 360 in a real fight but yeah,i agree for shure, high kicks give you great flexibility and condition in your legs would you agree that a round kick to the head is one of the few high kicks that can be efficient in real figths if they are trained right,it seems that this kicks work in a lot of combat sports
  14. yeah am going to do it,it seems they have a strong enphasis on condition, wich i think its a good thing,i dont think whe will spar or have that much contact, but i think its worth learning the art,the teacher makes us train with some decent intensity whe did a lot of condition work, mixed with blocks, defensive drills and a couple of punches and kicks i guess i will just suplement the training with some good heavy bag and pad training on my own my dream still his to train kyokushin, but the place isnt to bad,i have more on wensday thanks everyone osu!
  15. yeah, there are so much bad dojos out there its not even funny, that people wonder why people diss out karate, most martial arts like taekwondo, karate have become a complete joke(i am just a teen, but you dont need to be that smart to realize that 5 year olds shouldnt be getting black belts, and that you wont learn to defend yourself by doing a bunch of katas and some very light sparring) but yeah, there is a lot of hate,by the combat sports/mma community, and i dont judge them i have visited some taekwondo forum, and some of the guys(the majority),think that they should try to headkick an oponnent in a street figther, since they wont espect it this just makes me consider going to that place when they teach karate more, the fact that there is no sparring, contact or pads makes me concerned,i guess i can always punch the bag at home...... thats one more of the reasons, that i want to do kyokushin to bad i wont be able to do it for at least 5 or 6 more years
  16. i want some opinions in here, because honestly i dont see how if someone practises some tehcniques, but doesnt get to use them in some sort of scenario(not drills with litle or semi resistance) that person will be able to apply what he learned in a real fight(self defense) in most of the times its kinda like this, how could i really learn to throw someone if i wont practise that tehcnique in sparring, and just practise it in an oponent that isnt resisting? i might be able to pull it off in a real situation, but if i have no real practise i will be in shock if it doesnt work so yeah, how important is heavy bag/pad training and sparring to really learn to defend yourself? because i have a hard time understanding, its kinda like this,if you go to a karate dojo, and they teach you techniques, kicks, punches but they dont let you spar(or they make you do sparring with litle resistance) or at least practise your tecnhiques in some sort of target, you will be in shock when someone punches you full force in a real fight, and its trying to harm you isnt because of this that arts like taekwondo, aikido, karate(some styles) have a bad reputation in combat sports/mma? but arts when the students usually spar, like kyokushin, judo, muay thai, are usually praised because they are effective? anyway, today one of my parents talked to a 52 year old man,and they were discussing this subject, because my parent knows that i am usualyl interested in martial arts(i have practised them before obviously),and when she said that i was looking for a place with more contact, and that i did karate before he said that back in this time,it wasnt like it is today,he is a judo and shotokan black belt, and he went talking about how in his days they trained and fight very hard, and that it was very dangerous training,in a way that you were so well trained, you could really seriously hurt someone in a real fight, but in this days, the schools arent the same anymore, and the students arent prepared for that? so how important, sparring, contact, pad and heavy bag training e.t.c really his?
  17. yeah thanks man i will bump this thread after i go to the class thanks everyone
  18. yeah i have been training my body(with weights has well, among many other things),for almost 3 years,if there is one thing that i dont need to worry about is my strenght or condition(my cardio is not that good now,but its still decent, mostly because all the months that i spent doing some very hard training cardio wise),mentally i am very well prepared, even too in am still quite young and yeah, thats what i am worried about,i understand what you mean,i know that kyokushin karatecas are among the toughest stand up figthers in the world,so its obvious that they do lots of sparring i asked if he knew some place/dojo with contact like kyokushin, and he said try doing aikido, because they have a lot of contact,he then said that he had troubles moving his shoulder for 2 weeks i guess for being put in some joint locks or being throw? but yeah, the dude then said that if what i really want is fighting i should do kickboxing(he had said to me before,he didnt like doing it,because there was to much condition work) so yeah man, thats what i meant,i know what to except it will be -no contact, wich means no sparring -no pad work,or heavy bag work -problably lots of katas and drills thanks for answering,if i had the honor to train with you guys, you could except 100% dedication from me,i would do anything a kyokushin sensei would ask me to do,pain is irrevelant thanks for your answer
  19. yeah, hes not that bad,but i think his ideia of contact was a litle bit messed up,since when i asked him if he knowed some place with real contact,he said i should try aikido (they dont do any sparring, like any other aikido dojo, its the whole thing of grab my wrist ,not that i dont think they go rough, one of this litle kids who did aikido went to our judo place, and his father got upset at my judo teacher, because there was to "much contact",one of the black belts i got the chance to talk to,got to 1dan in 3 years, and the guy was very arrogant when talking about martial arts,he said to me that i should give up because martial arts arent for everyone, because i was trying a lot of different places too se what i liked, this is the same guy that when asked about exercising said to me that since i am young i was still in time to change my genetics ) so yeah,i think his ideia of "contact" might be a litle bit messed off since i am looking for something like kyokushin, there will be more then one teacher in the place i think, but i am not shure so yeah,i have legit reasons to be concerned its still money, and my famaly isnt exactly rich, even too it isnt that expensive, its still time, that can be wasted very easly thanks for the answers
  20. i am not saying goju ryu isnt a good style, but the way that will be taught to me wont be the best(no pads, sparring,so pretty much just drills with litle resistance, kicking and punching the air and some condition exercices) so thats why i am not shure if it will be worth it,because i wont learn to aply any of those tecnhiques,i can only hope to learn some aplications and improve my kicks, but not much else,so i am not shure the time and money will be worth it i can deal with the fact that whe wont do any sparring, but i would at least want some pad training(wich whe wont have),whe will just do katas and self defense drills all day,i dont think this will make me a much better at kyokushin when i start doing it,just not shure if it is worth the money you know? last time that i did some shito ryu with this same instructor,it was the biggest waste of money ever, all whe did the intire classes were just a lot of katas and a couple of self defense drills with no resistance(well, there was just me and 10 year old kids,so i cant blame him) i think goju ryu, shito ryu are all great styles but i am worried abut the way they will be taught cheers
  21. yeah, but its not a gym/dojo,a couple of instructors come in a public highscool to teach it,and he made it pretty clear how the classes will be,and it still DOES cost money,so i will have to think it trough i will try out a class in monday(its when they start anyway),and then i will post in this thread cheers
  22. no shotokan schools around, the only style of karate that is available is goju ryu karate teached in the public highschool(some instructors come here to teach) its the only place that i can learn karate,i dont know if you understand but there are no other gyms/dojos around, this is pretty much the only style of karate i can do and there are no other options, trust me i have researched and done my homework and he made it pretty clear, the teachings and methodos of training would be similar like last time, wich means lots of kata and drills with litle/semi resistance, afcourse whe would still pratcise kicks and punches, but with no pads, and it will have no sparring or contact,he made it pretty clear,he said if i wanted contact that waybe i should try kickboxing or aikido(aikido, because they go rough on the students,he didnt understand me well, since i meant real sparring, then he said kickboxing) but yeah,i cant to kickboxing, since its in a gym chain that is expensive has hell, whe are still trying to cancel de contract after all of this time(they pretty much fool people),aikido place looks like a mcdojo, since one of the black belts got that belt in 3 years, and its not what i am looking for, there is also a tkd place that is expensive has hell,so thats not a option so yeah,do you think its worth it?the training will have almost 0% contact, and it will have a pretty big% of katas, and drills done with litle resistance?i could still learn a few techniques(they teach all the basic kicks),but i dont really know if it is really worth the money and time, since it still costs money and its 2 practises 1 hour each a week i am not shure at all, what do you think? and yeah i dont think that about goju ryu schools at all,its just i am looking for a kyokushin school, but since there is none i wonder if it is really worth it to spent time and money training like this thanks and cheers
  23. i have done a couple of styles in the past(judo and shito ryu),unfortunely the judo teacher stop teaching, and the place when i did karate only had 10 year old kids for students and it was impossible to train there proprely but here is the deal,my dream is to train in a legit kyokushin school,i have wanted to train in this style for quite some time, since i feel in love completly with the style when i first eard of it its a huge dream that i have to train in this style, and i guess when i am older(i am still in mid teens),this dream will become reality, everything about the style just makes me cringe(in a good way),the training(/sparring with contact and true intensity, the condition drills),the techniques, the Philosophy i know it sounds chessy, and i guess you are problably just shaking your head, since teens/younger people, change they mind a lot and get into the hype about something very easly, but please believe when i tell you, that this is a real dream for me,i tried to research for a school or gym that teached this style, but i found nothing(once again, since i am a teen i cant train in a place more then 20 mins away from my home,i live in portugal) so it will be impossible for me to train kyokushinkai but the older sensei that was teaching me(the place when it was just kids,i made a thread about it),is teaching goju ryu(him and a few other karatecas),i talked to him and he pretty much told me,that whe would have no contact(no sparring,0% contact),and whe would do drills(aplications, self defense tecnhiques and such),practise kicks and punches, and waybe if whe are lucky whe could get some pads(wich problably wont happen) and seriously i dont really know,i am going to try a class(even too i know how its going to be like, hes teaching in a public school btw),but i am not shure, since i wont be able to practise kyokushin,is it a good ideia to train in this conditions?i am shure they will have something to offer me,is it even worth it? thanks everyone, best of luck with your training, and osu!
  24. ~well achually i had already seen that wikipedia page i am not really asking how the style was founded, backstory i was really asking more of what can i espect of the techniques and the fighting aspect of it has an art i espect to be more of a defensive style like shotokan, with strikes to the body, head and several other aplications what does the style of shotokain mainly focus on? cheers
  25. hi,i found out two places that teach shotokai karate but i dont know much about the style i tried to google it,and it said that shotokai isnt an official style of karate so there isnt much information about the style itself so might i ask,how do they aproach striking? if it is similar to styles like shotokan in terms of combat aproach and if there is a lot of kata? i dont know really what to aspect,so can any of you guys help me out?
