  1. I practice my art(Hapkido) for the peace it grants me, the confidence it gives me, the love of the style, to teach my daughters to defend themselves, the fitness of practicing and the Daywalker needs to stay fit because they do exist.
  2. Wristlock,Wristlock,Wristlock!!!!!! Gooseneck, outside it does not matter. WRISTLOCK!!!!!!!!
  3. You guys make me feel bad about myself. I would need 911 if I tried your workouts. Man I got a long way to go. Oh, and burpees are just cruel.
  4. I agree with what everyone has said so far. Also if you do any running for cardio stretch after a good run. Your muscles will be plyable then. Oh, and welcome to KF.
  5. So what are your favorite locks? Joint, wrist or finger locks. I personally like wrist locks, so many things that can be done.
  6. I loved so many of them. Unleashed, Blade trilogy, Kiss of the Dragon, the new Karate Kid and ofcourse Enter the Dragon.
  7. Rest in peace Mr. Jim Kelly. You were one of the greats. You are missed.
  8. Glad to see that there are some Hapkido people out there. I know that it is not widely known, but it is good to here from you guys.
  9. I have not read them, but try Marc Tedeschi's Hapkido book. Very in depth and thorough.
  10. I don't see much talk about Hapkido. I love the art and think it is great for anyone, man, women, child, strong or weak. Are there any other practioners? Anyone have any great websites?
  11. Since everyone else chimed in here is my opinion. Hapkido! It is a korean martial art,not a sport. It is very much about focusing your mind and body together. It does not require you to be the strongest guy in the room, just the one who is smart enough to keep his head about them. Marc Tedeschi wrote a book on Hapkido, it is great. I have been doing it for over ten years and I love it.
  12. I have a katana, Retribution is her name. I think this woman did the right thing. Who is to say that the thug would not have tried to rape her or worse. Respect the katana, it is the protector of life.
  13. I am starved to see martial arts tournaments in my area. Unfortunately my area does not get the tournaments. Does anyone know of a website that shows where these tournaments are held throughout the country?
  14. Does anyone know of any good websites for Hapkido? Or any good sites that have videos of Hapkido techniques? There are just a few schools any my area that teach Hapkido and unfortunately I do not have the money or time to join the classes. HELP!
  15. I have trained in Hapkido for 8 years and we do spar but not with the joint locks or sweeps as someone posted earlier. Performing these techniques can be very dangerous. So that is why. But if you are proficient you can perform these techniques and inflict serious injury.
  16. You need to check out the Night angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. It is anawesome series.
  17. I love Hapkido, but the thing about it is that it is not as widely popular as some styles(eg Taekwondo). But it is a great art.
  18. From the aspect of a Hapkidoist, I would say give Hapkido a try. It is not a sport so there are techniques that can prove to be vital in the street. Ofcourse if your heart is with Taekwondo then go with it. But don't turn your back on Hapkido without looking into it. It changed my life for the better.
  19. I will eventually guide my daughter to Hapkido, but for now I want her to find her own way. She is happy and loving Shori-Ryu. Her happiness is what matters, not my wantings for her to follow in my footsteps.
  20. Well I have been studying Hapkido for 8 years now and my oldest daughter has stepped into the martial arts world. She is 7 and she is starting Shorin-Ryu. She loves it and I am so proud to see her in class. I am trying not to be too hard on her when she practices at home. It feels great to see the next generation discovering martial arts.
  21. I have studied Hapkido fo 8 years and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Please let's have plenty of discussions on Hapkido. There can never be too much.
  22. I'm not sure of that style of Hapkido, but in my school we sparred but there were no joint locks or sweeps done at full speed. Those techniques can cause serious injury. We sparred mainly with punching, kicking, and half speed throwing.
  23. I got into it for self defense and a lifelong interest in it. I stayed when I noticed that it was one of my true loves of life and the confidence that I gained from the study of the philosophies.
