i was catching up with an old friend of mine he studied wing chun many years ago,anyway i was telling him about my last year learning shotokan karate,and it came you that he says that it isnt the way to tell people that you learn a martial art and that you should keep it hidden from people,what do you guys and girls think(ps i dont mean telling people in a boastful way either) ok 2nd dilema related somewhat to the first question im due to go to a fancy dress party in september and while searching for an outfit ive seen a really nice black ninja outfit from blitz(its on their website) £30 is amazing value for something that looks so good,i dont what people to think im showing off by wearning a ninja suit because i do karate,what are your thoughts,i think im worrying over niothing

i attend atleast 2 times a week always sunday night and either tuesday or thursday

im from england,shotokan karate, belt gradings are as follows whit belt orange belt red belt yellow belt green belt purple belt purple white stripe brown belt brown white stripe brown two whit stripe balck belt

ok im relatively new to martial arts,im in my mid 30's,and ive took up shotokan karate,but im proud of my belts that i have been awarded,granted im a green belt so ive not graded that much,i have kept my belts apart from my yellow belt(club asked me to pass my belt to another student).i dont think theres anything wrong in someone taking pride in there gi/belts

is my green belt grading fast considering ive been there for nearly a year,i know ive earnt the grading,and ive graded evey 3 months,and my sensei has failed students gradings for not meeting the standards required,on average ive been attending 20 lessons every 3 months and each lesson is 2 hours

to be honest i think there are a few certain films that should never be updated superman returns should never have been done for an example and i thought karate kid shouldnt have been re done,but with the reviews and the clips of the film im going to give it ago over the weekend(wax on -wax off)

i attend a dojo in north west england 2hours each lesson £5 which i think is excellent vaue,i did look at a club that wanted £250 deposit and £75 a month for a 12 month contract which worked out at £1150 a year

after finally deciding in taking up karate ,i went to 2 dojo,the first one i went to was very impressive,kitted out with all new equipment,karate gi was top quality with more badges /logos than when i was a boy scout,but very very expensive to join,but more importantly i didnt feel comfortable there ,the 2nd dojo no fancy equipment standard gi etc run by a family and you know what i feel at home here it has a brilliant reputation high standards,and im having the time of my life (well only been there for just under a year)

hi nevinyrral nice to meet you,i started in september 09,ive always wanted to learn a martial arts but kept delaying joining. im really enjoying myself and attend 2/3 nights a week and im putting in alot of effort into my karate which i hope will benefit later on

in the dojo we all call our instructor sensei,after 1 month of me attending karate i bumped into my sensei at the supermarket and automatically said hi sensei,she asked to be called by her first name outside the dojo,unless we were representing the karate club
