hi gary how do you like the fitting of the white diamond ?,one tip for you is to iron the gi when its still slightly damp its easier and yes it will get softer in time

hi people well my sensei has entered me into an annual tournament that we hold im in 3 classes individual kata,team kata(3 students performing the same kata,and kumite,luckily for me ill be fighting against 10th-4th kyu(im a 5th kyu purple belt,but being 30 something speed might not be my strong point lol,ive already ordered a groin guard just incase,being my first tournament im both very exciteted and very nervous,but mainly i will gain experience and my karate will only benefit.i remember attending last year(i had only had 2 classes under my belt )and id never have thought that 1 year later id be attending as a 5th kyu

i had a similar situation last year id just been given my red belt at shotokan and on the sunday night after grading we had a new student who came as a white belt but watching her in kata's etc she was really picking things up really quickly id made me feel like i was underperforming,whoever the next lesson she came with a 3rd dan black belt around her waist.things came to light when she was actually a 3rd dan and had recently moved to the area from another shotokan dojo and her gradings were honored by our sensei,made me feel slightly better about myself lol

never had problems with my yellow belt but when i had my green belt after my first night wearing it the whole back of my gi was covered in green luckily it all came out however with my new purple belt ive worn it with my new heavy weight gi and after 2 washes ive still purple marks on the back

hi lozzielizzie,well things went very well last night passed my 5th kyu grading last night so im now a proud owner of a purple belt

i had my mock exam for my 5th kyu(purple belt shotokan)last sunday,which i passed so ive got my final grading on the 12/09,been training hard for the last 3 months so fingers crossed ive put enough graft in

ok things taken into account,apparently the white diamond is japanese cut short sleeves long apron(looking at images id disagree) however the blitz japan syle is european cut long sleeve short apron,so ive decided to swap the diamond for the japan style which blitz are now happy to do for me so faith restored slightly

ok guys got the gi delivered this morning,ordered a blitz white diamond 5/180 im 5ft 11 and 13 stone the sleave fits about 1 inch below my elbow and the base of my gi is level with the top of my knee cap the gi totally does not fit looks so ill fitting cant believe i spend £60+ on a poorly fitting item,phoned blitz this morning and there response is because i didnt buy direct from them(bought from martial arts specialist local to me)nothing they can do so ive wasted money and will not buy blitz products again

ive ordered a blitz white diamond today so i hope to recieve it by wed/thurs of next week

hi DWx to be honest its not that important,i work with a girl who studies tang soo do,and we have a chat about kata's etc and compare the similarities with the kata's,its friendly stuff between us until now anyway lol

as in my previous post,im after a heavy weight karate gi and since ive noticed alot of replies from overseas im after a united kingdom supplier,ive narrowed the choices down to a blitz white diamond and a mooto heavy weight,so people from the u.k what do you recommend

in which forum can we trace the original beginings of karate,a friend who studies tang so do has said that that style is the original art

hi people im reletively new to the martial arts scene(11 months),but ive noticed in my dojo that all of a sudden we have quite a few more students young and old,and its all down to the new karate kid film has anyone else noticed a similar trend?

hi strangebacon,you know what i was competely dreading watching this only in fear of it being a dukes of hazzard disaster remake,but i did enjoy the film thought ba and murrdock were pretty good choices,and off topic i did like the new karate kid film so many referances to the original film that made me smile

im going to get myself a heavy weight gi shortly and having looked around ive found a very good website offering blitz gi for a very good price,anyone else had blitz clothing? and lastly whats the difference between a white diamond gi and the japanese cut gi

6th kyu green belt in shotokan next for me is purple belt

i suppose im reletively young then i started when i was 37 im now 38,when i started karate last september i weighed 15 and a half stone, now im hovering between 12.5/13 stone so ive lost 2 stone in less than a year and id like to think karate had 80% responsibility for that,i wasnt that fit when i started but now im keeping up with students half my age,and personnelly im learning thinks quicker too,like your aim im currently a green belt 6kyu,but ive not set myself a belt target its a hard road ahead but its so rewarding,like many i wish i had started 10years earlier,

now that karate is in my blood,id like to gain more of an understanding of the art are there any books/dvd's that you would recommend
