  1. I find "sizing up" an opponent is a dangerous tactic. I believe the most effective way is to go as quickly and powerfully as possible from the very start to try to end the match and I do not try to size up the competition.
  2. I find crescent kicks to be very effective, but it is a hard kick to use because of its basic low power and accuracy, but the way I use it is to do a 360 degree spin and then a jump and launch the kick and I once got a KO from the kick. Try it the way I explained and you may like it more
  3. If you want to go into the literal aspect of the quote, if you practice 10000 kicks at one time, what are the chances you are going to remember even 100 of those kicks. However, if you practice one technique 10000 times (which in all actuality is very possible) not only are you most likely going to perfect that one technique, but it would probably be a very devastating attack as well.
  4. I am actually a huge fan of this anime/manga. I have read all of the chapters (that are up at least) and I am in love with this manga. Even better, I have actually learned alot of interesting techniques from this manga so if you read/watch this, you will be learning and be entertained at the same time.
  5. Thanks for all the advice guys
  6. Haha. That was a funny rant sensei . But that also has alot of truth to it too.
  7. For my purposes I would say lose the fat. Since I like to be fast moving since I am already weighed down by my body structure, I need to have low fat.
  8. PASTA. Pasta is a huge source of carbs which your going to need so you should eat that the night before the tournament. For breakfast something like oatmeal would be a good choice since it is also a carb and a slow releasing carb for back up energy
  9. Here some help for you Pablo. Like you I also had to self train myself. What I would recommend is to go to your local library and take out books on your art, martial arts books are a lot better than most people give them credit for. The only thing is that if you have to self train, I would not recommend trying TKD because kicking is much harder than punching arts. I am not trying to discourage you, but I started out with some basic boxing before I tried anything else.
  10. That could be explained for two reasons. Firstly you landed more and more powerful strikes than he did, which may be why you won. Secondly you hit him with pretty good kicks, so the judges probably noticed that.
  11. I saw this on a special before, I think the the squids usually win the fights. Epic article.
  12. I just sometimes get random inspiration. I remember while taking my English final I was just humming random lyrics to myself. I think inspiration is spontaneous
  13. Thats really cool, looks like something from the Lord of the Rings
  14. I listen generally to anything that is fast paced because it just gets me in the mood to exercise.
  15. Makiwara training is already pretty hazardous, I would not suggest doing it, but if you really have the urge to only strike it a couple times each day.
  16. Isshinryu would be complimented very well by Aikido. I met a Japanese martial artist awhile ago who used both and I thought they were part of the same style since they flowed so well together.
  17. I wish I could say that martial arts has improved my driving skills, but hey, I can't drive yet, but I think martial arts has approved my focus.
  18. Has anyone on the forum ever trained using rubber knives. Plus does anyone generally know how much these cost?
  19. I have only sparred bare fisted.
  20. Ahahaha. That was really funny. Think you for posting this.
  21. Aha, I wonder if the master guy is actually a master
  22. TKD can be extremely effective in SD...if you are very good at it. Being a powerful art, the major downfall is that if you are not very skilled at it, it is not very effective SD.
  23. I can't see how MA can be detrimental to self defense, MA can really only help in self defense situations.
  24. Depends on what your interests are in the martial arts.
  25. I guess he means that you should be spontaneous, but have control at the same time.
