  1. Welcome FirelordAkiko Congrats on your Brown belt!
  2. This story warms my heart that you two could come together and share. I am glad you had this chance to exchange thoughts and ideas and to train together as friends should. Thanks for sharing the picture as well. That is a great shot of you both. Frame it.
  3. Welcome Kevin
  4. Welcome Solipsil
  5. Agreed. Nothing like fighting a white belt. You never know what you are going to get. I would change take the politcial role out of MA. No place for it. I might also consider taking out some of the traditional teaching. In Karate we tend to teach kids about a culture they don't understand and don't interact with.
  6. Welcome Kevin
  7. Welcome Dwayne
  8. A punch can be both a punch and a block. A block can also be a strike. There are no hard and fast rules in karate and most techniques you train in kata have direct application in a fight and often times they are multiple. Very true!
  9. I think all Kata is literal in everything that can be a block/strike/punch/kick/throw etc.. You get out what you put in to each Kata.
  10. Welcome kumite

  12. I thought the instructor was suppose to determine if the student is ready to test? Sounds like a scam on testing fees if the instructor lets the student test even though the student isn't ready. That's one angle I hadn't thought of and you are right. I think I would feel completely cheated as a student if that happened and my testing fee wasn't returned. Why should you get your money back? You paid the examiner for their time and for them to judge you. They still performed their bit even though you weren't up to scratch. Why should they test you for free? If anything I'd do it the other way, use the testing fee as a deposit. If you don't pass the belt, the examiner gets to keep it because you've just wasted their time. Would make a lot of people try harder. Just because you've paid your dues and turned up to test, doesn't mean you automatically get the belt. If you look crumble under the pressure and look shocking you shouldn't pass and they should get to keep the fee. If you fail your driving test you don't get your money back. Dwx, That was well said and I agree 100%
  13. Welcome Tay !!
  14. Welcome Barry Or G-day mate!
  15. Just my 2 cents but when you are fighting with 2 weapons they are both an offence and defence weapon. Boths sides should be equal.
  16. Yes Sensei8 well said. My condolences to the family and students.
  17. Thanks all! It was a good day.
  18. I main hobby is my family. Since that is where I spend most of my time. Second is MA which lucky for me I have my family involed in it 100%. I enjoy the odd PS3 nights with a shooter now and agian but mostly when I need to escape a good run is better. Now that summer is here I spend a huge amount of time camping and hiking in the Mtns. A few 3 day hikes to make sure the body still works and a few family camping weeks to make sure I can still handle more than 3-4 beer
