Meh, with a 2 minute rest and maybe 8 seconds of TUT an 8x3 will take about 15 minutes. That doesn't include warm up or cool down.

20-30 mins is a very light workout for weights. I'd also suggest you split cardio/endurance work and weights to seperate workouts.

Unless you have a specific medical problem that needs rehab I would stay away from machines. Mostly a personal preference, but partially due to the planar nature of machines. Try and keep your workout from going on for too long. Ideally you want to be finished a workout in 60-90 minutes. And yes, you can get a muscular body but at any age it takes work.

The only strain on your bones you should worry about with a deadlift is a rounded back. Rounded back = strained back. Otherwise you're good to go. Same thing applies to back extensions.

Any sort of lifting routine will facilitate the ripped look (it builds muscle). However the key to looking ripped is diet not exercise. You want to lower your BF% as much as is healthy/possible.
-
As a beginner to the weight game you do not need plyometrics or a body builder split routine. A simple full-body routine 2 or 3 days a week is sufficient. The lower body work listed however is not. I'm not trying to be insulting, but the weight seems extremely light.

Mon - MT in the morning, school at night. Tue - Weights early in the morning (DE), school in the afternoon, go out at night. Wed - MT in the morning, school at night. Thu - Weights in the morning (PE), school for the rest of the day/night. Fri - Light MT workout in the morning, work night. Sat - Weights in the morning (ME), work night. Sun - Rest, rest, rest. Then work the night...

It sounds like you are in serious need of some lifting info. Unfortunately I don't have the time (packing it in here at the office so I can go home). Quick answer to the question at hand. If you wait under a minute you're letting your body recover a little. If you wait between one and three minutes you've let your body recover plenty. If you wait more than that you're letting your CNS recover.

Deadlifts can injure you. So can bicep curls. But neither will automatically turn you into a cripple.
-
I guess powerlifters and old school weightlifters are stupid then. Deadlifts are great. Sumo deadlifts are more for your legs than back. Other great back lifts: goodmornings, romanian deadlift, stiff-leg deadlift, reverse hyper, pull-throughs, etc.

Damn I haven't posted in a long time. Anyway, recipe for getting big: 1. Eat big. 2. Lift big. 3. Sleep big. Eat carbs. Eat protein. Eat fat. If you really want to get big eat all three. You can't get big and stay 'cut' at the same time.

Deadlifts are fine. Good mornings are fine. 1RMs are fine. If you got hurt doing any of the above, then you did it improperly. The exercises are easy, and done right they are great for your back, hamstrings, and glutes. 1RMs are an advanced training method, so you stay away from them until you've been lifting for more than a YEAR, and have read up on the subject to know what you're doing or have strength coach.

Anytime you're injured, as a beginner, you need to take time to recover. Your body isn't used to the work you're making it do, so you're bound to have a few injuries like this before your body adjusts. If you're really worried about this in the future, find a good sports doctor who won't advise you to take some painkiller and forget about it. If you have the time do some research into bodyweight exercises to help get you into better shape. There are plenty of exercises out there, and even more advice to go with them.

You twisted your ankle and then stood on it for a few days. I'm not surprised it hurt that long. Personally, I wouldn't be worried that much, but I'm far from a doctor. Good luck with the recovery.

I got this today after my 3 hour class and some jogging. Relax for a bit, eat right, and drink enough; you'll be fine.

I thought about breaking it myself but then I got a GF who happens to like the way it is now. If I broke it she would 'feel the pain' too and then kick my *** for good measure.

It's funny when you find out your kiai means something silly in japanese. Especially when you've been using it for a long time, and then find out that you've actually been screaming something like say, 'fart', for the past few years.

How about the non-single young men with loud mouth girl friends? "My BF knows _____!" _"Ah, crap..."
-
I was one of those crazy kids. My nose is still slightly crooked from that tire, and I can't breath through it properly. The doctors figured, "This kid is nuts so he'll probably break his nose again. So we'll leave it as it is for now and fix it later." I'm still waiting...

Synthetic leather bags are deadly for the skin as well. I know what you mean Luckyboxer.

I drank plenty of milk as a kid, but it didn't help me when, at age 9, I fell 15 feet off the school playground onto my arm snapping it easily. Getting hit in the face with a tire swing on my way back to the school wasn't very pleasant either...

ninjas or samuris?
WhiteBelt replied to JLee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I'm with the honor thing being made to keep the samurai in line. Anyway, who would you pick: the soldier that kills himself if he ever fails, or the guy who makes the samurai fail and goes home to his wife? -
One thing missing from the link is the affect the CNS plays on force developement. You need to train your body to recruit the maximum number of muscle fibers for a given movement. Though that is out of the scope of the discussion it is still important to consider.

Heh, no need to go to the extremes. I'm big so I rarely have troubles, but not NFL linebacker huge so I'm not going to be a trophy fight for some punk. And the people I do have trouble with are on drugs, or drunk. The others as you mentioned I feel pity for and just let it go, and try to be understanding. Above all I guess it's the fact that I don't go looking for trouble.

Damn it! I got suckered into click on this thread... oh the agony. They both suck; how's that?
