Oh and 3rd dans dont know everything [ This Message was edited by: karateronin on 2002-03-13 01:43 ]

We do not always learn martial arts skills from our students but sometimes life skills. Skills such as paitience, perseverance, humility, joy, sadness, all these and many other skills are learnt through the martial arts lessons. Sometimes students and instructors dont realise this and never acknowledge these skills have come from their training. Last night Mr Reece jnr told me he gave a presentation at college and because of skill in using a computer and his skill of teaching others (martial arts students) he gave the best presentation. I learnt from Mr Reece jnr that I have a purpose in life. That pupose is to help others gain these skills through our martial arts programs. POLL: What do you think would be the best weapon to use in a
karateronin replied to Patrick's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
SaiFightsMs is the only one who has the right answer I think Your best weapon is always your brain. Steve Leak AKA Karateronin No mortal is my master -
ken what books you been reading?? Chuck learnt it from muay thai? The guy was a world champion several times before muay thai even raised its head in the west.. Other systems especially Japanese and Korean martial arts evolved from Tang Te or chinese hand which evolved from shoulin kung fu which evolved from INDIAN karipyit And you cant beat a good indian as they say in Bradford, Yorkshire. And you can even get chicken tikka and onioin bahjies at our Mc D`s _________________ karateronin is the Chief Instructor of Karate International Black Belt Schools UK. Ken I think what you actualy implied was that all karate-ka were fools. I quote: Any fool can do a front kick. You also seemed to think that only kickboxers or muay thai practicioners can do roundhouse kick. Sorry but look at Chuck Norris (Tang Soo Do), Frank Brennan (Shotokan), Mas Oyama (Kyokoshinkai) etc. How do you block a Jodan (head Height) roundhouse with your shin or knee?. Unless you are a contorsionist. Respect to Mr Inosanto
-
What on earth are you talking about thaiboxerken? Karate as ALWAYS dictated that you use your hip extension in a front kick. Its quite obious to veyone here that you are not or have ever been a serious karate student. I have every respect for jeet kun do practictioners but if you are really a student of Mr Inosanto then you are not listening to him very well. I am sure that he does not share your views about my way is the best way! Get a life Ken, Get real, Get KARATE There is always a defence to ANY kick or punch but its only as good or as useful as the person delivering it
-
Ahh Angie + Krystina You didnt read what I said so here it is again If a person comes to our dojo being say a 3rd kyu in wado ryu then they shall reamain a third kyu until they are proficiant in Shotokan to take 2nd kyu this could take a few months or a few years depending on the student. As wado evolved from shotokan then the time would only be short. As you are aware we are a non political organisation and to remove someones grade would be a political act.

Hi Valn. Just let you know its not all about money what style`s have you studied? What grades do you hold. My association will recognise them and not charge a penny

What Makes A Black Belt?

And here is the answer... Some little dude in a factory in Silkot, India and gets paid a pitence for his labour. Remember that next time you put yours ON -
What you say is true submissionfighter. change the type of art studied then revert to white belt. But from karate to karate keep it until you are ready to progress further in your new style
-
The real answer to the question is can we remove the knowledge already aquired from our brains? So why must a person be demoted in rank if the style changes. When I get a student from another style join my McDojo I leave them at their present rank until they are ready to move to an higher rank in Shotokan Karate. To remove their present rank would be political and I do not believe in the politics of martial arts. Our martial art is what we make it as individuels not as clones of our instructors.

Well here we go with a brief history lesson... Shotokan Karate is the stle named afetr Master Gichin Funikoshi. Shoto was the pen name of Funikoshi and Kan is the japanese term for hall so Shotokan is actually the name shotos hall. Shoto translates into waving pines as in trees so the further translation is waving pines hall just add the Do and we get waving pines hall way. The Shotokan was built by Funikoshi`s students after the original school was devistated during the war and his students named it after himas a mark of their respect. ShotoKai is the style now derived from Shotokan and was developed by Funikoshi`s son. Other great students of Funikoshi include Yamaguchi, Nakayama, Kanazawa, Enoida just to name a few. More later if you wish

Hi Guys & Gals God I sound like Jimmy Saville(A very old Disk Jocky taht should be dead but still goes on). Right! What makes a black belt? My opinion a true black belt is a person that feels that they are not as good as others think. I hate the bloke that introduces himself with hi i`m Master ??? 7th Dan As you know from my profile I hold dan grades in all sorts of styles but I only put that information there so you know who I am and what I do. My answer to the 7th dan is I am a desperate dan Come on then nows your chance to really air your views Steve Leak Desperate Dan Cow Pie Eater 10th Degree

Well the never ending debate of Do/Jutsu goes on. Master Funikoshi was trained in the martial arts by masters Itosu and Azato who trained in karate jutsu, the practical fighting styles of karate. When master Funikoshi introduced karate to the people of Japan the fighting system of Tang Te or Chinese hand (this was the original name for karate)had to be made more acceptible. To do this he changed the name to Karate also changing the kanji (japanese spelling) and taking out all the rough (to use a better term) elements. He could now introduce karate to the education system especially universitys as a Martial Art and it was accepted as always being japanese. Steve Leak

ts757 you might one day be able to get the nasty black belt that did that to you IF YOU BOTHER TO TURN UP YO CLASS Steve Leak

Welcome GoldDragon from Sensei Steve Leak I look forward to your postings

I suppose calling it a school makes it more of an educational establishment rather than just a place people turn up when they feel like it as some of my students do, (they shall remain nameless here as I know they are reading but if you get a feeling of dread then you know its you). I believe that as an instructor we are there to educate our STUDENTS in moral and ethical life skills as well as the fighting skills that are really a secondry effect of our training. All instructors must believe in themselves to get the best out of our students. If a school teacher did not care if students attended class all our educational establishments would be empty. Kickchick what school do you teach at in the USA and do they use student billing? We have just introduced this system in our schools and find our student attendence as improved. Steve Leak

Being the first of the mark as a great effect on your opponent. This shows you are giong to dominate the mat and gives a great psycological (I think I spelt it right) advantage Some time ago one of my junior students ws beaten before he got on the mat (in fact e refused to fight). His oppnent made a threat to him prior to his bout and continually stared at him. The sad thing was the other guy was`nt that good. Know yourself and you will master others... Steve Leak
