Do any of you instructors learn from your students? Master Tobias Reece teaches me something new every class I attend. His kata skill far exceeds mine yet I am a National kata champion. How can this be? Well because he loves kata so much he knows more kata than me (I am his instructor). He also knows more Kobudo than me yet I am ranked higher than him, Why?. Because I have graded moe than he as. I know that there are students in all schools that know something their instructors dont yet some instructors are not prepaired to learn from their juniors What are your thoughts? My Name is Steve Leak and I am the Chief Instructor of Karate International Black Belt Schools (UK) I am Graded as follows... 3rd Dan Shotokan Karate 2nd Dan Brithai Karate (a concept martial art) 1st Dan Karate Jutsu 1st Dan Judo Plus a few minor grades in other styles. I have been involved in the martial arts for over 27 years and have studied under some great and not so great teachers. I consider my self to be open minded on the martial arts and believe that ALL STYLES have something to offer. I am also the head of a TradKA.UK a sub association of the British National Martial Arts Associations. I conduct the Northern Area Dan Gradings for our association in compliance to their standards. I will post more on the above topic later.
