  1. Royce would bust most ppl in the street. He can take a good hit and deal it out too. To say he has a "little" striking is incorrect. I'm willing to bet that most ppl here don't have 7 years of striking experience. Still, if anyone has a good chance on the street its him.
  2. I do Russian Sambo. I like the ground-fighting (juss like BJJ only without the Gi)
  3. It depends on how crappy the other fighters were. One should be enough, but I suppose more is possible. I'm generally pretty confident, so i'll say 2 or 3 depending on how they attack, if they come at slightly different times then okay but all together at once, I'm proly done for
  4. wat i think TJS was trying to say is crouch down slightly, then shoot urself forward at them and grab behind both their legs and then lift upwards wif your legs and slam your opponent down
  5. I agree with northern ogre pretty much. Gettin the superior position, whether it be clinch, mount or juss havin his shirt over his head, that helps alot. Not freaking out will help alot. Being able to deal with taking a punch is also a useful thing.
  6. shouldn't feel guilty, he coulda done the same to youm only he had a better weapon. So too bad for him
  7. Add more punching...allow full-contact hand strikes to the head...focus more on powerful striking when sparrin rather than juss scoring points. I would say add grappling, but i suppose that wouldn't really be keeping to tradition. Also, at least teach sum defense of low kicks, for gosh sakes, tkd guyz will keep getting slaughtered by thai boxers till you get sum low kick defense, lol
  8. Well I'm a grappler, so I would prolly try to pass his guard. Or if he waz a decent grappler then i would ground and pound him till he went for a submission then pass his guard from defending that(easier IMO than trying to break his guard) Or perhaps I would grab onto him and power bomb him ontot he ground(pretty effective) but this dependz on his weight and whether or not the ground we're fighting on iz worth the slam. But honestly, i think the ground and pound while trying to pass his guard iz the most likely to actually happen. Still, if a guard pullz you to guard in a real fight he prolly meanz business, And it would be a good idea to be real careful coz i dun think that you'll juss be able to "tapout" when he getz you wif a submission, juss hope itz not an armbar, lol.
  9. Yes , aned no i've never been sued. U've been sued???? Dat sux!!!!!!!!!!! MMA4lyfe
  10. LOL, relax ppls. And i dun think there is netin wit floorin some guy wit sticks if he's pickin on u. the guy's damn lucky he didn't get double legged then arm-barred...peronally i choose to get hit wit sticks then have mah arm broken. U "mature" peeps act like ur all superior and stuff coz u never fight and have a nice happy no-sweat dojo to go to:p
  11. Advice, you ppl r being ridiculous. He had every right to do wat he did. She just couldn't take wat she dished out. And wat about morals? R y'all doin MA to wint he nobel peace rpize or to learn self-defense? alotta use ur morals will be on the street. But this isn't even about morals. She's older and just as big as him but with way more experience. Plus she's a full-contact fighter, and there is no reason she should be uncomfortable. And she likely wasn't. She was juss bein a ***** coz she was recieveing more resistance than she wanted. She prolyl looked at u and was like he's younger and less skilled than me and i sould be able to crush him. And when she wasn't, she threw a hissy fit.
  12. You really shouldn't totally rely on ur Gi, coz there will be times where it will be to ur detriment juss liek there will be times where it will help you. I where a Gi sometimes but not really often, i du like ppl grabbin onto it.
  13. I agree somewhat. I don't believe there is a single best style but I do believe some styles are better for different things and in different ways, also some styles might be better for different occurances. I think its really about 70% style/30%person, if not even more dependent on the style. Cardio and strength are largley important tho
  14. I would prolly use either a Muay Thai stance or a side stance. If the guy was big and alone, i'd prolyl take him down tho.
  15. Yeah G95champ, but like everyone does it, plus its better for power...
  16. DO NOT KICK, keep ready to sprawl and juss shoot off punch, be careful with the sprawl though, if they grab ur arm u'll prolly get an arm drag throw or somfin. Its hard to not get taken down, specially if ur tall and lanky. I'm a small guy and agree with kickchick when she said that smaller guys will wanna take it to the ground...its juss safer that way fer us, lol. umm...i dun think bjj has as many takedowns as sambo but we may body lock slam you and stuff...we may grab several places, it may be hard to writs lock us if we shoot fer the legs but perhaps a gi throw might give you the chance to wrist lock...
  17. There are many martial art related sport many of which can at least make some money...do you think Submission Fighting could ever become a professional sport, like boxing...not just like ADCC?
  18. I have found that both size and strength is a serious advantage in grappling. However I have also found that grappling is a good example of how smaller ppl can dominate. It seems that large fighters can choose where they wanna be, specially if they have decent takedowns. I'm only 5'7" and 152lbs. So i'm pretty small. I'm in an adult class, so there are much bigger guys than me, including body builders ...i tried an arm lock from side mount on one of the body builders(yes, i can hold my own against the big dudes, as long as they aren't WAY more experienced than me) anyways, i just couldn't get it, he was TOO STRONG...it was a less reliable submission but it didn't work at all, and i think he swept me back into guard. I then proceded to choke him into submission with a guillotine. But that's not the point, chokes werk on everyone, but some locks require too much strength. I HATE being small and would much rather be a heavy weight than a lightweight however, i am also happy that i win against these guys. I mean this one guy with a judo background who stared Sambo at about the same time as me, has only beat me once with a choke, but i've beat him every other time with the same move(guillotine) and another really muscular guy i've only sparred once, who i got in an achilles lock...but everyone in my gym has reletively large muscles, aside from a couple, i'm prolly the 2nd weakest guy in the gym. Anyways, it sux being small, any of you have this problem? and remember..."When in doubt, choke 'em out"!
  19. I agree with Venezolano...if you've got any friends you can roll with you should do so. Even if neither of you know any submissions just do it for as long as you can grabbing and pinning each other. Before I started formal training I rolled alot with my friends(i knew a bunch of submissions already though) I did an hour long gauntlet...1 friends and I go at it, i wint hen another comes and this continues for an hour. Believe me, grappling is much less tirering than striking so dun worry too much. The only thing you'd need to worry about is the damn mat rats who think they're friggin royce gracie and crank your limps off, lol.
  20. I have a good sense of what Aikidoka do, but what exactly does traditional Jui jitsu entail? Any good sites?
  21. It seems to me(and i'm sure you've all noticed) that the martial arts world is broken down into four groups of people. 1."Progressive Martial Artists" 2. "Traditional Martial Artists" 3."MMA fighters" 4. "Submission Fighters" What I mean here is that each one descriminates the other. First off, "Progressive Martial Artists" tend to always believe that only their methods will work in a "REAL" street situation and think that traditional arts are heavily flawed with "useless" things like kata, step-sparring, point-sparring, etc. Also, their view of "MMA/Submission Fighters" is that that they are ONLY good for the ring and have little to no value in a real confrontation. They would feel that Muay Thai is too damaging to the body, unneccesarily brutal and stupid for the streets. Also, they feel that "Submission Fighters" are stupid because fighting on the ground is stupid in a real figth, or so they say. Second, "Traditional Martial Artists" tend to believe that the substance and art behind "Progressive" martial arts is gone. They believe there systems are effective and that they are just as well off with what they do. They tend to have the same opinion on "MMA/Submission Fighters" that the "Progressive Martial Artists" do. Third, "MMA" guys tend to feel that any art other than Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, San Shou, Kyokoshin(not sure bout spelling), Bjj, Judo or Sambo is merely a waste of time. To them, if it dun werk on the street, then its useless. Believe me on this one, juss check out MMA forums like the one of Sherdog.com They also believe that any single style will merely be destroyed. Fourth, "Submission Fighters" tend to believe that any striker would just be taken down and submitted. They hold true tot he results of the first few UFcs(when BJJ dominated all other styles) In conclusion, all though we should all be brethren int he Martial Arts, we stand divided. I'm sure there are ppl in between as well as those ignorant of other syles(like ppl who go to McDojo's fer just exercise and stuff and dun really care about the art) but I've seen SO MUCH style bashing, in fact i've done some myself
  22. I agree with Thai Kick, teep, and don't stop teeping, dun just wait for when they try to come at you or they may fake you out, just do it randomly and quickly and keep moving as well...plus dun do a snap kick, do a push kick...
  23. I love elbow strikes, i would likely do them in a confrontation, as well as knees, since i'm not always gonna get a chance to kick and i really dun wanna get into a punch up...plus grappling ain't always the best idea, so...close-range attacks rule!
