I'd like to see a Bjjer against an Aiki Jujitsu guy too...i love that name Aiki Jujitsu, it juss sounds cool, lol. What does it involve? And good luck in ur training tombstone, be sure to tell us ur name before ur match so we know who to root for

Its their own fault fer not competing...if they don't, oh well, dun complain about it. Enjoy seeing other styles fight...i always loved the whole style vs. style thing tho, i think its great

I think dats great man, i wanna fight professionally too. I think the UFC is a great testing ground and can make you some cash too(not as much as boxers of course)...So what do you train in? I'd assume some form of submission fighting(sambo, bjj, etc) as well as perhaps boxering and/or Muay Thai. But really its great, do you have a contract yet er r ya still tryin to get Dana White's attention?

Would any of you guys ever do a joint-breaking move(a submisison where u dun let them go if they tap ) or chokes. It seems alot of you guys dun like grappling much and i fully understand that. I was once a pure striker myself and though my training was good enough, in fact i though grappling was stupid...now i'm a grappller, i still strike and have done so longer than grappling but i have found out that i'm a natural grappler and like it now quite a bit. Street fights are very dangerous and when ur adreneline goes up, so may freeze somewhat and lose some of the precise striking u've learned. Maybe i'm juss a sissy striker but i find it way better for ME to get in close so as to not get KTFO...plus keep in mind, most streetfighters can at least punch but they can very rarely grapple, maybe wrestle but they'd likely be pretty open to submissions and striking from mount. So what would YOU do? and what subs would you conceivably use? I'd maybe strike against someone my size, but a bigger guy creates to much threat and i'd wanna take 'em down.

I'm from Ontario, same problem dude...i'm surprised they dun make slamming illegal in grapplign and wrestling events, lol...amateur kickboxing is illegal too. Our government sux big times, everyone knows it. I'd choose bush over cretian any day. Its not fair that quebec can do it and we can't. I think if we got old KEN to practice point sparring fer a while then go against a MMA guy and see how useless he is...maybe he'll change his mind...or we can always do it the old fashioned way...baseball bats anyone? lol, jk

I do Sambo too, we do lotsa choking, who cares about Olymipic rules. I dun live in america, i like in Canada. My coach is a multi-time russian champ(yes he is in fact russian), one of the assistant coaches is a middleweight submission fighting champ and one of the guys i train wit is a lightweight pankration champion

Any prefered takedowns?
Severe Matburn replied to Angus's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I love the double leg. Quick, easy, doesn't require much strength. Its nice to get after faking a jab. The hip throw is a nice one too, i lil more challenging though. -
BJJ And Judo

Brazilian jiu jitsu sounds better, so let's leave it at that -
Your first submission
Severe Matburn replied to Venezolano's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I think my first submission was an armbar from bottom on my friend before i took formal grappling training... -
Style Vs Style.
Severe Matburn replied to Kensai's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think a TKD guy would get taken down pretty easy, specially if he tried high kicks. I think shootfighting is good too. I'd love to see aikido versus japenese jiu jitsu. i love to strike but i think grappling is easier and safer. i'd love to stand and bang, i'm not too bad at it either but i juss feel more comfy on the ground personally. I used to be a kicking speciallist, it was my fav and i wasn't to shabby either but i kno i'd prolyl be pretty easy to take down and in street fights u usually start the fight wit somone grabbing another guys shirt before they bunch...there goes kicking i dunno anyhoo, juss my opinion... -
leg/ankle locks
Severe Matburn replied to BladeLee's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hey man, i'm a submission fighter and one of da styles i do is Sambo. Sambo is known for its leg locks, not that i'm real good at them er anytin. I've seen many bjj guys and such, do achilles locks, and i dun think i've ever seen one do it right. First-make sure you use both hands Second-make sure u apply pressure to the achilles tendon and not higher up, like on the calf, it may still werk but not as effevtive by far third-make sure u roll on the side that isn't trapping the ankle and try to be on top of his other leg fourth-now pull upwards with ur arms, squeeze ur legs together and arch ur back. das it i guess hope i helped -
Knees from the clinch
Severe Matburn replied to Severe Matburn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah Kensai, it prolly wouldn't be too good against multiple attackers, but das a bad situation no matter wat training you have. Northern Ogre i agree with wat you said about punching, it would be a good idea and the stright punch would likely make first contact...however i have no quams about rolling around on the ground if its one on one, i am a submission fighter after all, lol and hey i'm from Canada too!. Freestyler, i'm glad to see a grappler here. Choking is great, its good to get strong guess who rush at you with it, i'm small and not too strong but i've beaten a much bigger body builder with a guillotine. And G95champ, it does seem alot safer close up don't it? Das why when boxers are gettin pummeled they clinch to take a rest, thx for the replies guys. -
thx alot guys and merry Christmas to you all too

I'd say: Boxer vs. Sumo-The sumo will get KTFO, we've all seen how good sumo's do against strikers. JKD vs. Sumo-sumo gets KTFO BJJ vs. Sumo-may be a lil hard on the bjj guy coz of his size but i'd love to see the bjj guy use the sumo's fat like a gi, lol Judo vs. BJJ-I'd say BJJ coz even though the judo guy will likely take him down the bjj guy will be more comfy when he gets there JJJ vs. BJJ-I'd say BJJ unless the JJJ guy slaps on some crzy unexpected wrist lock er somfin(i've once been wristlocked while grappling, i didn't tap though...juss stuck through it and defended enough to keep my wrist from breakin, this guy musta outweighted me buy 80lbs.)

Hey, what do u guys think about clinching in a real fight? and once there, wat do u think about kneeing? Would you wanna come that close in ur opinion? and wat about entering the clinch, wat would u do to enter?
-
Of course self-training is good. Before i actually went to a grappling gym i self-trained and when i went i surprised everyone there that i was as good as i was...even after only maybe 2 months, i was already beating alot of them, and sometimes when i'd make up a move or train a move in striking that i haven't been taught it formally, i have been able to use it effectively. Sure a formally trained person may be better, he may not, he will have gained his own bad habits and u, ur own. As one can see from street fighters who have not been trained, they still manage to knock each other out...spar...if it werks, good fer u, guess ur doin it right. And if u won an actual tournament, then damn dude, u r good...

Hey everyone, this is a good site with some opinionated ppl. its kinda nice to see ppl agreeing to disagree. my name's Severe Matburn and i'm part of a fight team called "Team Snake Pit"...We're kinda MMA guys but we train for the street as well. We do striking and grappling, and i DO think grappling would still work on the streets as long as its one on one. But i love to strike, one of mah nicknames is killer knee i got dat when one of my training partners was holding two big pads put together and i held him in the clinch and shot off a stabbing knee, it put him down and he was winded even wit the two big pads he was holding, lol. uh...wat else can i say...i like to kick alot, i can punch but dun really like to...i prefer to elbow...uh, my ground game ain't bad....martial arts is my life, no really, it is, its my everything pretty much. And das it i guess

My insturctor quits teaching!!!!
Severe Matburn replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Gee man dat sux, sounds like ur style was unique. I do kinda a hybrid style. Pretty much a mix of TKD, karate, san shou, muay thai bjj and sambo...very muay thai-like fer striking but we also use side kicks and stuff like in san shou...and well...i suppose there isn't much difference in how sambo and bjj grappling looks, so there's the idea. What was ur style a mix of??? -
Shaolin Fighter, are u talking about japenese jui jitsu or brazillian jui jitsu? And no offense kensai, but i dun think any style is COMPLETE. A COMPLETE style would include every MA technique...no style does, neither would a universal style like that be any good...it would be just too hard to learn...i know the idea behind aikido and its certainly not complete...if it was complete you could use it in MMA and not juss against streetfighters. I know the whole rules argument but think about the early UFCs with groin shots and everything allowed...grapplers won anyhoo. No offense to strikers or anything(i strike too) but ur argument is that u'll juss strike tot he throat or eye gouge, use pressue points er somfin...but its juss not that easy. it never is. wat about fighting a grappling that's concious of the fact that u WILL try cheapo moves like dat and it prepared to defende them...wat if he slaps on a submission before you can do anything...it really isn't hard to submit a non-grappler...and don't even say that a pure striker would usually stop a takedown...I DUN THINK SO...9 out of 10 times the grappler WILL win. I used to be a pure striker and was in denial as well. but thats juss the way it is. believe me, i love striking, i'd love to live in a world where flashy kicks were effective street fighting techniques. but it isn't so...plus most street fights either go to the ground or are in grappling range(standing)

JKD anyone
Severe Matburn replied to kickmaster's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I have no JKD gym's listed in my area, i was interested too. But i like wat i'm doin now and my fight team. I would assume it would be hard to find a legit JKD school...but i guess das the way it goes nowadays. -
I dread doing _______ in class!
Severe Matburn replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I dread working with a certain someone...i just can't stand him, and when it comes to to spar, he chickens out...i can't stand it...like when we're working on a technique for instance passing the guard, he'll try to submit u...i just can't stand him...i also take a karate and really dislike kata
