  1. I agree wif TJS, from what u've said, Greco-Roman wrestling would be ideal. Amazin throws like judo only without the Gi. I would recommend Sambo, but we might have too much ground-work for you. Still we do both wrestling and judo takedowns so we have have strong takedowns but my gym tends to focus on the ground, however if you go to a gym that teached olympic style Sambo, you would have wat you want.
  2. Definately do it, itz only half an hour and it'll be worth it.
  3. It IS grappling, but if your referring to wat everyone means when they are talkin about grappling they are likely talking about groundfighter or at least takedowns, not juss clinching.
  4. I think they would work. I kinda prefer wrestling takedowns somewhat but I'd love to pull off a good hip throw. Itz juss that I'm more proficient at takedowns
  5. Actually Sambo has tons of "live practice" i do sambo btw. and karate woman, that Sambo instructor that ur talkin about is mah coach. And we are juss the bjj juss do do more takedowns sometimes, other times we juss werk alot on the ground and we don't really use the gi like bjj does.
  6. damn sho-ju...i'd like step up and be like uh...yeah, i think i'll pull guard. But yeah, I have ear protection and I don't use it. It is so horrible and itz alot harder to get outa chokes and such with it on. I haven't gotten cauliflower ear yet and i'll prolly only start usin protection when i first get them
  7. I've used it before, but itz only worked on weak, generally untrained guys. Other than that I've tried it on others but it doesn't tap them out, juss pretty much annoy them. I've had it done on me, even sum1 bigger than me and it was definately nothin i would ever tap to. But using it would prolly keep ur opponent from passing your guard for a lil bit. But it takes too much energy and you cannot sustain a strong grip for long.
  8. How do you think this would turn out? Like say, Arnis double stick vs. Kobudo staff or Arnis knife vs. Kobudo sais etc
  9. I used to bounce in sparring...then i learned how to punch, LMAO, sorry couldn't help it
  10. lol, vash ur great. Don't y'all juss love the kick ur opponent in the face approach to life? Be careful with it, coz if they get past ur legz ur toast buddy. But be my guest and the ur legz fly.
  11. I think if the WC guy waz good, he'd prolly wipe the floor wif the tkd guy. But i dunno bout the karateka, i've seen a karate vs. WC fight b4 and the karate guy demolished the WC guy but i suppose that waz juss one fight
  12. Just do what you can man, no training is better than nothing.
  13. Mah last fight waz about a month ago wif anoder grappler and he did sum sort of scissor leg takedown, only he did it to mah knee and it damaged the tendon, so i waz on crutches fer like 2 weekz, i'm still goin to physiotherapy
  14. I really rather not strike with a boxer, but a Thai boxer would be even worse in my opinion.
  15. I wanna be an MMA fighter too. I'm already part of an MMA gym and I can both strike and grapple but I haven't had any MMA bouts. I'm also 5'8", 150lbs but i've tapped out much bigger, stronger guys on a fairly regular basis. Fer other small people who wanna fight I would juss advise that you get a really tight guard game.
  16. Be happy you're getting such intense training. It will do you so much good. Eventually you'll be able to walk around knowing that you are almost infinately harder than almost all of the people you see around you. The truth is, you could probably take their best shot but they would be annihalated by yours
  17. It would definately be very beneficial for you to start training in Muay Thai. It is such a powerful style, you'll be well equiped. Specially if you don't spar in Wing Chun, then Muay Thai will get you used to taking punishment, which will benefit you greatly. I just wish I had the opportunity to train in Muay Thai, I'm an ok striker right now but with my lack of full-contact training/sparring in that sense, I don't think I could stand and trade with a Thai Boxer. Thankfully I have my grappling that I feel confident would pull be through.
  18. You did the right thing man...still I kno the feeling of bein down on yourself for not attacking the fat lump. Still a crowded dancefloor would be hard to fight on. If I was with my gurl I would feel compelled to retaliate however. So I'd have to say, a straight left follwed by a right hook(i'm southpaw)...then get the hell outa there. I wouldn't think grappling would be such a good idea givin your situation
  19. I would more than likely use punches from mid-range, but I would try to throw them to the jaw so that my hand doesn't get too damaged. But if I waz in-close I would prolly use elbows and knees rather than palm strikes. But I think that your knuckles will produce more impact damage as well as cutting than striking with your palm but I suppose if you throw them hard enough it will be effective enough.
  20. come on, has no1 else ever used grappling in a confrontation?
  21. Hey, has anyone here use grappling in a confrontation? My only experience was when this guy grabbed me in some pseudo guillotine choke on our feet and i double legged him. Aside from that i can only think of play fighting with my friends
  22. I agree shotokan warrior, the attacking the wrists thing sounded kinda stupid but even one really clean leg kick should do the trick. If not it will alwayz stumble them enuff for you to start launching sum punches
  23. Hey all, juss wonderin. Wat is every1's favourite position to be on the ground, and your favourite submission from this position??? My favourite position is either mount followed by an armbar(this iz if i'm stronger at takedowns than my opponent)...or from bottom guard and armbar from there (if mah opponent takes me down)
  24. Boxing would be great. You'll learn to take a hit and to have amazing punches. Thatz all you really need. I'd put mah money on a good boxer over a tkd/karate/kung fu guy personally althought i would prefer the latter to win. I would love to do boxing myself
  25. I agree, the world's greatest striking art. I sure wish I could do some formal training in it, but fer now I guess self-training will have to do.
