  1. Welcome to KF!
  2. I'm not really sure what to add to this debate which hasn't been said already, but I agree that this secret "Montgomery Style Karate" does seem awfully suspicious. Also that by mentioning a government secret on a public message board, it's revealing confidential information, or that Johnlogic121 is just making all this stuff about a "secret infallible martial arts style" and therefore impersonating an actual CIA member.
  3. Thank you! EDIT: Thank you to all the people who congratulated me below this post as well, I just didn't feel like spamming "thank you" posts every time someone replied.
  4. The test was almost exactly 4 hours. I actually found it a lot easier than I thought it would be. The test was still hard however, as it was almost all outside in the parking lot behind the studio and it was a hot day. We had several breaks to take a drink, though. Doing push-ups on the hard asphalt was almost enjoyable in a strange way, but I guess I was just psyched up a lot. When I first arrived at the studio, I was really nervous, but I ended up doing fine and getting my new belt, green with brown stripe.
  5. I know, the stuff at that site is amazing. I don't think I could ever do the Varialess Magmoor Run myself, but I have done a few of the sequence breaking tricks such as Space Jump first, Ice and Plasma beams before Spider Ball, and skipping the Gravity Suit. (I didn't bother to post the links this time, but all these tricks can also be found at metroid2002.com)
  6. I also love the Metroid games. I already own all 3 Primes, but I think I'll pick Trilogy up anyway so I can experience MP1 and MP2 with Wii controls. Also, does anyone know about sequence breaking in the Metroid games? Metroid 2002 has great information. It also has videos of amazing tricks such as the Varialess Magmoor Run.
  7. Welcome!
  8. I'm guessing my test will be about 4 1/2 hours, though I'm not sure yet, but it probably won't go all day.
  9. I might meditate half of the time and psych myself up the other half, then.
  10. The belt system is nice how it marks certain post milestones. I've seen similar ranking systems on several other forums, too.
  11. My own experience in starting martial arts was a lot like that, too. I've been doing MA for 4 years now, and I really enjoy my school.
  12. I've tried that before, closing my eyes and doing all my techniques in my head, and it works pretty well. I was either thinking of doing that on the way to the test, or psyching myself up by listening to metal on my mp3 player. Which is a better way to mentally prepare myself?
  13. Glad no one hates me for training at USSD, lol.
  14. Thank you, those are good suggestions. I'm not sure whether to create a whole new topic for this, but there is also a good chance that a good part of the test will be outside. Heat exhaustion is a possibility, then. So I'll stay hydrated during the test, I have 2 36 oz. bottles of Gatorade for the test, but when's the best time to drink them, before, during, or after the test?
  15. Ok, I see now.
  16. The forms I currently know (in the order I learned them) are: 1 Pinan 2 Pinan 1 Kata 3 Pinan 2 Kata 4 Pinan Two Man Fist Set (Northern) Two Man Fist Set (Southern) Stature of the Crane
  17. Thank you. Do people hate USSD here? I've heard about that "McDojo" stuff, and the Charles Mattera - Fred Villari conflict.
  18. Next weekend, I will be testing for green belt with brown stripe (4th kyu, I believe), and the test will be at 9:00 AM. I was wondering what a good breakfast would be so that I'll have enough energy, yet won't give me a stomachache during the test.
  19. I've read the posts on this site for a while, and I decided to finally join here. I train at United Studios of Self Defense, which seems to have somewhat of a bad reputation around here, but I have personally had a very good experience with USSD. Anyway, hello to all the people here on KarateForums!
