  1. Blocking a punch .... that will work I have never seen anyone block a punch or use any type of block in a fight. First off there is no such thing as a block in Karate. If you studied Jutsu you'd understand that. An age uke is a heavy forumn applied to the side of the neck and is used in close-quatre fighting as a knockout. It could also be used to rip off the ears of someone as in the circular motion of the block. The infamous Gedan Barai is in it simplest form a strike to the groin, etc. A good way to show that there is no such thing as a block and the only people that think there is a block are mis guided japanese pople and there Western folllowers but mainly the Japanese who have no idea how to fight and then teach the westerners how not to fight (blind teaching the blind). Anyway too see how there is no such thing as a block get a great big mother of a steak. Now take this steak down to your local park and get 2 alsations and 2 rockweilers and watch how many times the alsation does "Age Uke!" and the Rockweiler "Gedan Barai!". If you don't beleive me go walk around the street late at night, gew picked on intimitated and then wait for the person to strike and then block! Well done! You have blocked his punch! Yes but wait a minute he has just planted 10 more punches you were not able to block. Well amybe next time insead of wasting your time blocking them you can hit the c*unt!

    Do vs. Jutsu

What you fail to understand is that the term 'Do' is simply to make safe so it can be practiced as a Sport. Although Funokoshi wanted to popularize karate he did not want to turn it into a sport, but after his death he could do nothing about it. The original term for karate 300-400 years ago was Toe-Te-Jutsu. This was the balance of Physical training with mental training as well as bettering ones character through effort and hard work. This idea that you need Do is a bit silly. If you ever met a Jutsu teacher like mine or Steve Morris they are the most frightening people you would ever hope not to meet. But also by the same token they are the nicest and humourous characters you could ever hope to meet. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7045 hers a topic for more about Karate-Jutsu
  3. I was just looking at Rocy Marciano and he is a "slugger", but I don't know what this means. Other terms are "puncher" and "boxer/puncher" as well as "swarmer" which is also what they called Rocky. Could someone please give me the names and meanings of boxing styles? thanks, Neil
  4. I need a pair of good quality Black Sai. I'v been on loads of websites but I don't know which one is better than the other they all seem to be selling the exact same sai.I just want to buy a really good pair of reliable strong balck sai so I don't end up waisting my money on some really krap pair. thanks Neil
  5. Has any one here trained with the legendary Master Steve Morris in Horsham, England?
  6. https://www.mattfurey.com for all you fitness needs. Just do body weight calisthenics and you will get strengh, muscular endurance, cardiovascular, co-ordination of power, balance mental alertness and a great body. As for punching and kicking you need to pucnh somethign solid like a heavy bag or makiwara. Punching thin air is not going to accomplish anything.
  7. To put on weight eat lots of starcy carbohdrates like: pasta rice especially white bread especially white potatos refried beans anything containing wheat or whole grain cereals etc For mass building take in lots or proetins such as turkey, beef, fish (fish and chips is a perfect weight building tool!), chicken, pork and any other animal you fancy. As for drinks beer is the best supplement and if you can get the low alchohol high fat type you will be using the supplement of Sumo wrestlers who drink 18 pints of beer a day. Also whole fat milk is excellent in which you should aim to drink about 3 to 4 pints a day. When it comes to exercise for bulking weights does seem to be the best solution although when I changed from weight training to body weight exercises I got bigger. When it comes to weights do compound (multi-joint) exercises which build functional strengh, doing body building isolation exercises will make you look more 'buff' and 'pumped' but womt give you any strengh. Basically all you need to do is eat more that you burn of in a day. No need to count calories just eat loads of starchy carbohydrates, protein, and drink loads of full fat milk and if you can get it, some beer containing no alcohol but loads of fat. If you want to find out more starchy carbohydrates just do a search on https://www.yahoo.com or https://www.google.com
  8. Actually its scientifically proven that carbohydrates put f=on more calories than fat does. And you don;t need scientific research to determine that! After a large pasta meal you feel really bloated and tired, but compare that to a chocolate cake and you don't feel anything like that. protein is for muscle mass and strengh. But remember you still get carbohydrates from some vegetables and some diets totally restrict andy carbs! This diet only restrics starchy carbs. But the results are phenominal! You can still enjoy your diet without having the los of energy, lack of concentration, weight gain and that feeling of lerthigicness.
  9. Matt Furey and many many wrestlers talk about low carb diets, and the total restriction of starchy carbohydrates like pasta, potatos, pizzas, rice, bread and so on. The emphazis is on lean protiens, fruit and vegetables. Basically eating only natural foods that you can either pluck from the tree or the ground or get from an animal. I tried this diet yesterday and did not eat any starchy carbs for 24 hours. Today in the morning I was so hungry I couldn't help my self and had some cereal (high carbs!). But I have to say I felt brilliant. I felt really strong and light and I felt I had a lot more control over my body. But is this diet good in the long run? I have to say, the fitness pioneers who disrigared science seem to be right about everything. Probobly coz like me they like to try things out rather than theorize and think about it.
  10. Actually one of the many reasons people stop weight lifting is due to injury, nad people who are in their late fories all seem to be having problems and injuries with their kness and backs. Body Weight Calisthnics are exercises you can do all your life. None are really better although for more and more people these body weight calisthnics seem to be used more and more. My moms Physiotherapist has given a Matt Furey book to my mom which I already own so you can see how this is catching like wild fire. Also my body looks 10 times better than on the weights and although I'm lighter I look larger, stronger, and well fantastic. Using your own body is the natural way to exercise and everyone is seeing the enourmous benefit of these exercises I don't even have to argue anymore about it.
  11. Yes there are differences. First of all Okinawan Karate is a Jutsu Art. Any Jutsu art means traditional warefare. It is extremly dangerous to practice and is why it is never practiced as a sport. The Do of Japanese Karate is less than 100 years old and has been made 'safe'. When looking at Do arts they have all been made to be practiced safely: Karate-Jutsu = Karate-Do Ju-Jutsu = Ju-do Kobo-Jutsu = Kobo-Do Aiki-Jutsu = Aiki-Do There are many more of these but I'l stick to the ones I know. Also when loooking at a practitioner of Karate-Jutsu he will most likely have huge fourarms, from relentless grip training such as ,Chi-Shi, Nigiri-Game, finger tip pushups and so on. The whole body also will be very strong and very well conditioned. A teacher when showing application will not treat the students like cotton wool, he will really give you a good pounding and the applications will be of function rather than 'flowery'. If you go into any Jutsu class you will do Kata, applications to kata, Kumite, and swapping drills, strengh and conditioning work either with equiment or getting conditioned with swapping drills, heavy pad work (not light pad work), and constant explanation of everything and why you do it so you are not a mere recording robot who simply is told to do something and does not knowing if it it may one day save his life. The one thing we don't do is spend half the lesson walking up and down the dojo screaming Kiai and punching Thin Air. This teaches you nothing. Everything comes from your kata. Also going back to my earlier point, when in the Dojo there is no such thing as 'Free Sparring' or 'Full Contact'. This really is the pathetic down fall of modern karate-Do. When you say full contact or free sparring you are basically saying anything goes. But if I was to walk into a Dojo and do free sparring or full contact fighting do you think the instructor would allow me to poke my fingers into the opponents eyes, kick him in the bulls, rip his ears off, headbut of bite his nose off, tear some muscle off the lats or obliques, break his leg, or neck? Somehow I don't think so, yet that is exactly what you want to do in a street fight. There is no such thing as a pretty fight! In a fight there is no time to block, put on a hold, do a nice throw, or send a ching blast into him. In a fight you would poke him in the eyes (takes out his vision), strike the throat with a heavy forum or punch (take out the breath), and strike downward with either the shin or kness to the outside kness with takes him to the ground. Then the finest technique of all .... run! The whole point of a Jutsu art in Okinawa was to have protected your self and your family and get home safley, that was it. No ego, no nothing. I love it when my teacher talks about some of the ways he has gotten across to people of Do or for that matter boxing when they want to do full contact fighting with him. One occaison was when my teacher was in Malaysia with Nigel Sutton and he found a Kyukushin Dojo there. He went in and joined the lesson which is usuially unlikely. Then came full contact time. He was faced with a guy weel over six feet tall and my teacher is about 5'7. As soon as the bout began my teacher stuck his fingers into the other guys eye. The guy went down and my teacher was disqualified. And was asked why he did that. He repleid that the oppenant was on the ground and he wasn't, thats all that pattered. I better stop here other wise I'l go on all day but please reply back if you have any questions.
  12. At the moment I am only punching the heavy bag, but I really really want to start to punch the makiwara. All the ones I have seen have been the ones where you dig them into the ground but my parents simply won't allow it. But one of the people at my karate-Jutsu class has a Makiwara that consists of a huge bucket filled with concrete, with about 30 bamboo sticks tied together, and with pads stuck tied to the outside of the bambbo sticks. This is very easy to make but has anyone ever heard of this type of Maikiwara construction and is it effective? regards, Neil
  13. The truly natural way to train your body for all-around fitness and building a warriors physique.
  14. For the past 3 months I have been eating high carbohydrates such as pasta, loads of white bread with peanut butter, cereals, and other types like full fat milk and eating loads of protein like tuna and meat. I'v been bulking up to increase weight. But I was thinking of changing my diet to one of the orientals. Matt Furey personally uses this diet in Combat Abs and Sherpas also use it. Basically it maximizes strengh development without gaining any access flab or weight. You only eat vegetables, fruit, nuts, and poultry. Thats it. Lean meats and vegetbles. But doesn't weight have very distint advanages? Maybe a diet like that would hinder fighting ability since you could easily be tossed over? This also address the 'Warrior Diet' which I havn't read but from what is said it uses the same thing. regards, Neil
  15. Has anyone got any information on the Okinawan Warriors? Are there any books available on them or any good websites giving a good in depth history on them. regards, Neil
  16. Is this website any good? http://japanese.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa042201a.htm I'm trying to find the kanji sign for 'Bushi-Te' (Warrior Hand). Iwas gonna write it on my bo, thought it might be kind of cool.
  17. I bought the book a few weeks ago. I also have the combat conditioning book as well as the no bs book. I'm not intirly sure if it is great value for money. He shows 2 internal breathing exercises and the other 48 exercises are just external exercises. the other one being punching your self in the stomach. If you like I could explain some of the exercises for you. The most important are the ones he calls the magnificant seven which are seven exercises. regards, Neil
  18. I can't quite remember the name but the Okinawan equivilant to the Japanese Samurai I think was called something like Nagabushi. It is something begining with N and has Bushi in it which I think means Warrior. I thing these were the first to use the bo as weopen and I think they used straight bos. Any help here?
  19. So how can all these people on the websites all share the same false information. Or perhaps some okinawan people made bos tapered for fighting of enemys but the original bo being straight?
  20. On all the websites I have been on they all said that the Okinawan Bo is tapered. But there is one problem I find with this. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Bo first used to carry buckets of water on both ends? If so a tapered bo would prove more difficult than a straight one. So maybe it was originally straight and then it became tapered? Funny thing is my teacher said that the Okinawans prefer the practitioner to use a straight Bo! A little confused I think, anyone here to help this little problem.
  21. Just wandering if anyone knows any mind techniques. About the only one I know is Visualisation. Anymore? regards, Neil
  22. My teacher said that when you really really don't feel like exercising simply don't train. When you feel like exerciseing then train. He sais that that you should listen to your body and that it is not being lazy, so you don't injure your self. And that exercise is to be enjoyed, not something that is manditiory- it causes to much stress. I don't completly agree with this. I beleive that training is not only for the purpose of creating a stronger and fitter body, but to creat a resulute spirit that never gives up. Mas Oyama is a perfect example. For 3 years he trained 12 hours a day, everyday,- never having a day off. This man would never give up. The Military encompasses training everyday to build a strong mind (spirit) that never gives up, so when under fire they wont cowar and run away, but keep there cool and fight. I beleive that you shopuld push your self- train everyday-never give in to poor motivation or the fear o injury and laziness. This will then turn into a habbit. What do you think?
  23. Hindu squats. Deep breathing will enlarge your chest. Arms you could do handstand push ups.
  24. I got Wolf, Wild Dog, or Tiger. Personally I seem to be a Wolf since I am interested in joining the Militaryt and law enforcment as opposed to a Tiger whos main job seems to be a bossy Lawyer. http://www.animalinyou.com/Wolf.htm
