Usually the class starts at 7hpm with the 15 min warm up then 45 min of basis forms and movement practice. At 8hpm its the water break. After we are split by belt rank and we practice our katas. What I do not understand about that dehydration is that once I can not stand anymore, if I sit and relax for a bit, I slowly recover. Then when I am feeling better I go downstairs (bathroom is downstairs) and drink / wash my face in water. That is what made me think about heat exhaustion instead of dehydration. Is it really possible to dehydrate so fast in 30-45 minutes?

Tonight has been the second training session this summer that I got a heat exhaustion while practicing at the dojo. Tonight class was not anything special fitness wise, like any normal class. It was not really that hot tonight, like 22 degree Celsius and like 88% humidity, no wind. We do not have A/C at the dojo, but the sensei has two little fans in the corners but it does not do anything unless you are right in front of it. Normally I sweat really easily but most of the time my body does not overact. The symptoms I get when it happens : heavy sweating, tiredness, nausea, paleness. If I take a 10 min break, sitting, drinking water, washing my face and neck in the water I go back to normal. I don't feel 100% but I can go back to class if I really go easy for the rest of the class. Is there anything I can do to help prevent this or know a way to train to it happens less often.

In the last paragraph he explain how to contact him by selecting the "yhteydenotto" link at the bottom and the page and he tells you what to put in which box. I agree that there is not much information on the challenge itself but the "*" next to the rules without any explanation anywhere is strange.

I think the challenge is meant to be disrespectful to hit the ego of the grand masters so they will fight against him. If he want to test his "superior" fighting skill he can just go into any competitions. As Throwdown0850 and Eager To Learn said, I do not think one style is better than other, its either better teacher or better practitioner.

Microsoft redesigned all the interface for the Office suite because a lot of people would send them email asking if they could add functionality to their software. Most of the features that were requested by the user were already in the software they just did not know where / how to use it. The new interface should be more intuitive for users. but its hard for old time users since they knew where to find all the functionality they used. I have not used the new Office suite so I can not really comment on how it is. (We are still using 2003 at work)

which style?
Lachrymosa replied to Roys15's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I found a good article on the history of Chitose Tsuyoshi : http://www.dragon-tsunami.org/Dtimes/Pages/article33.htm by Michael Colling. You can read in this article why he named his style Chito-Ryu. There is a lot more interesting information in this article too. Some information on Mamoru Yamamoto also. Hope you can find what you are looking for in this article. -
Unless your university requires you to have Vista, I would go for XP. Vista is by no mean a bad operating system, they just pushed a bit too far the security concept. Vista just spam you with security questions, "Are you sure you want to do this?", "Are you sure you want to do that". You can turn off some of those alerts though but its still annoying. You are quite lucky to be able to get a new pc / laptop with XP, most manufacturer only install Vista now.

What Fees are you Paying for Training
Lachrymosa replied to marksmarkou's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I usually take a 10 weeks bundle (2 1h30 classes per week) that cost around 120$CAN which is like 6$ per class. If I would take the year membership it would be a bit less than 500$ per year so around 5$ per class. bushido_man96 got quite a deal with 3 classes per week + gym for 40$. -
The Wii remote has interesting capabilities and I hope that the new add on will make the control a bit more intuitive. In a lot of games it is really hard to make the move you want. The only bad thing is that it won't be backward compatible with previous games :/

Congratulations for your promotion! I hope you enjoy your new openings.

I go to the dojo twice a week. Each class last for 1h30. I would like sometimes go to more classes but my dojo only offer 2 classes per week. I could go in another dojo of the same style in a neighbor city but I guess it would be kinda of hard having 2 different sensei.

Surikomi and Ashi barai is not in our syllabus (we have different terms for those moves) so I searched on the internet to find them but as you can see Google is not always right! Thanks to have taken the time to correct this.

When the student moved to our dojo he was an orange belt (3rd belt for us) already, but my instructor would have grade him lower. Not too long after he switch from child to adult classes. (In our system, child belt does not have the same required kata and proficiency as adult belts) So he had to first learn all the required "adult orange belt" stuff he did not learn and then learn his normal orange to green belt. He was doing one class per week. I do not know how much he trained at home. He had a lot to work on and he managed to do it.

I study Chito-Ryu but some of the moves are the same so I will try to explain what I can to the best of my abilities. junzuki : forward punch with the front arm (we call it Oi-zuki) Gyaku-zuki: Reverse punch surikomi : I found that on some wado-ryu forum : means to take the back leg and cross it over the front leg to go forward. Mawashi-geri chudan: (Mawashi-geri : Roundhouse kick) (Chudan: Middle) Mawatte uraken : (Mawatte : command to turn) (uraken : strike with the top of the fist) mawatte ushirogei : (Mawatte : command to turn) ( ushiro-geri : Back kick with the heel) jodan uke : (Jodan : High) (Uke : Block) gyakuzuki chudan : (Gyaku-zuki : Reverse punch) (Chudan: Middle) ashi barai : barai is "sweep". I found on the net that ashi barai seems to be "lower leg sweep" we call it "Deashi-barai" gyakuzuki gedan : (Gyaku-zuki : Reverse punch) (Gedan: Low) Hope this helps

There is so much different aspects to keep in mind during kumite. I do not seems to have that much problem finding opportunities but I have a hard time managing my energy and doing my strikes properly. I just can not seem to relax so even if I am not doing much I am using a lot of energy for nothing. It's giving me a hard time if we have to do lots of round. I have to focus on that. Also like shotokanka92, to breath a bit here and there could help also

In my school you can keep your previous rank if its a similar style but you will need to catch and learn everything for your rank as all other normal students. One student at our school was awarded an orange belt in another school / style that was giving belt quite easily. When he started at our school he was able to keep his rank but it took him a bit less than 3 years to catch up and meet my sensei's standard and be able to test for the next belt. From style to style and instructor to instructor rank can vary a lot.

Do the Martial Arts run in your family?
Lachrymosa replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
As far as I know I am the first one. I sure hope to start the tradition! -
Hi guys, I have always wanted to study martial arts in the past and I have finally decided to make the big jump at 27 (Never too late right? ) . It has been 7 months now that I have started to study in Chito-ryu Karate and it has been quite fun. See you guys around!

It has been around 8 months I have started studying Karate and my Budo-World light weight Gi is starting to get worn out. I have searched a lot on these forums about different brands and weight and I have a couple more questions. Is a heavyweight Gi that much warmer than a lightweight one? At my school we do not have A/C and it can get hot during summer and I sweat and get hot quite easily. As a yellow belt, I do not do a lot of bunkai / throw down so I do not yet need the sturdiness of heavyweight Gi. I am 27 too so I will not outgrow my Gi anytime soon and I have not started to shrink yet! Does a heavyweight Gi last longer than a lightweight Gi and is it worth it to buy a good quality lightweight Gi? For lightweight, the only one I found that seemed interesting was the Arawaza Diamond. For heavyweight, there is lots of choice, tokaido, kamikaze, arawaza (must ship to Canada) but its hard to know even the difference between two heavyweight Gi of the same brand. (There is Shureido, but I was not able to find any online site that ship to Canada) I am open for suggestions and comments! Thanks for your time Lachrymosa
