When I take off my belt...guess what? I'm not wearing my belt at that moment.

I guess the attitude towards not wearing a belt is due to those who place their belt above all things in their lifes. For those who say...."Why even wear a belt?" Then don't! For those who say..."I wear a belt!" Then wear it. Either way, it's no reason to get on our high-horses, unless, one is still immature in their martial arts walk, imho. If "your" own sensei, who wears a belt, threw his belt like dirty clothes; would "you", whomever "you" is, say something to "YOUR" own sensei...to his/her face? Many won't for fear of their sensei/instructor for whatever reason(s). Many say they would say something to their sensei/instructor, but, would they really? I don't know. Would I? Not because of fear of my Sensei, but, OUT OF RESPECT! Besides, it's his belt, he can do whatever he wants with the darn thing. Who am I to say something to my Sensei when that seems so minuscule compared to more important things in the martial arts, like, learning/training in effective techniques and the like? I guess that this topic will rage on way after we're all dead!

I joined Shindokan because it was the only school NEAR enough to my house, 6 blocks away, so I could ride my bike there. My mom said...."Join that one or nothing!" Thanks mom!

Well...just great....I'm one who does think that his sensei is the best thing since sliced bread. I want my students to think that I'm the best thing since sliced bread. Don't you want your students to think that you're the best thing since sliced bread? Is my sensei? Am I? Are you? Proof is on the floor! Well...how many? And, do you go and check out an instructor or school?

Yepper! With a TKD practitioner or any practitioner that loves to kick all the time; I jam the kick at its conception!

Brian, Have you tried to contact the Aikido Association for any advice/help?

Brian, I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you. It's different huh? Are you finding it to be a challenge at times? Does your TKD background help you? Do you find yourself reverting to use your TKD out of habit? Restraints and applications....YES...Don't you just love them? TUITE! Have you started to do any demobilization techniques yet? Keep it up!

sensei8, I am not trying to sound negative towards you, but the chance will almost never present itself in a real confrontation. Unless you are going against a inexpereinced person. That's ok...I'll be ready whenever it actually presents itself....and my opponent, no matter how skilled or unskilled, will find it rather uncomfortable. The bueaty of Tuite is that the techniques will sneak up when one, skilled or unskilled, isn't expecting it. I'll be ready!

That is true. Have you ever read William S. Wilson's writing..."Ideals of the Samurai: Writings of Japanese Warriors"? Well, he speaks of just that...social class, family lineage, writing style, and geography; including the sharing of common values. Yet, the Code of Bushido is just as real as the planet Earth is...real that is!

Code of Bushido and many other things in the martial arts are just not understood, but, they're thrown around anyway without any thought and/or any care, imho!
